which GPU is best for AC?

I have better results with my one year old KFA2 GTX 680 LTD OC v1 :whistling:

...right pc parts, good coolers, smart OC and U can save some $$$ ;)

exactly year ago :) I build and overclock my pc
score was good... very good  http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5751949
combined score 8923 ;)

...some people today with new drivers and after OC have lower combined score with + 300$
i5 4670K and 770 etc. :D

AC maxed out 1080p

including
max setup for AC in nvidia panel as well ;) fps will drop :)

full grid and 38 - 45 fps fraps is on so without should be 50 or more...
using just one screen 55" full HD

I have a minimum of 45fps and max of 85fps with exatly same settings.
And i only drop from 60fps when all Ai is in the first corner producing smoke, or in some parts of the replays.
There is nothing wrong with my system, like i said before it handles 4K maxed out Project Cars above 60fps.

Something is way off, with a Titan SLI you should get a lot more FPS on 1080p...

I get over 125FPS (depending on track, silverstone start is the worst I think) with a single 780TI (EVGA superclocked) @ 3840x1024 and everything maxed out except cubes at 3 (since I can't see a difference). I actually dialed it down a bit and forced 2x sparse grid supersampling to help AA and still get around 120fps...

I got a 780TI (EVGA Superclocked with ACX cooler) last week after many many years of using various Radeon cards... So far I love it, Nvidia surround came a long way and works great...

like Remik said try maxing out the game and tell us what you get.

I've only tried with 12 ai cars, but I get around 105-115fps when hot lapping and on the start grid with 12 cars I get around 85, then when the race starts and smoke appears I get 70ish, then during racing it's around 90 fps.

I'm on a 2700K with 16gb ram and a hd7970

That's good info for me @Sodemo I have a friend that is pushing trips with his 7970 but he has to turn pretty much everything down and is worried about when MP gets here....I might buy his card for a good price and make it where he can get a GTX 780 for his triples. I assume you are running a single screen pretty much maxed out with those fps?

what clock speed and MHz or 3DMark11 ?

btw. with nvidia U have FULL max only with AC nvidia panel maxed out as well ( page 6 ) ;)
direct game settings + nvidia panel setup .... some people don't know about that ;)

heh now I saw AC forum with signature of one user -

AC: Fullscreen 1920x1080, 4xAA, 16xAF, Vsync on, shadows high, world detail max, 120-195 fps if Vsync off."

I don't know what this ATI have but probably steroids :D or diffrent quality picture :) :whistling:
but why He don't want max settings and prefer 120 or 195 fps ???
and only 50 ssd... system + ??? + AC = 0GB
hmmmm I don't know ...some people :D :roflmao:

A lot of questions here.. lol

I'd recommend sticking to the 7 series cards. The 6 series are getting a little old now, and in my area there doesn't seem to be a huge difference in price between a 660 and a 760. Your milage may vary of course. Depending on your target resolution (1080p?), really determines what card you need. A 760 should be sufficient, although you'll probably need to reduce some settings.

For your other questions.

1) A number of reasons. Larger companies enjoy economy of scale, meaning they buy more stuff at lower pricing, so they can price their stuff more competitively. Some cards are also more customized (different cooling solutions or board layout), which adds to the cost. Also, there may be bundled items such as games, shirts, posters, etc. Watch out for warranties as well.

2) Zotac is a smaller vendor, I've heard good things about them on various review sites. They think outside of the box and come up with some good custom stuff. I personally haven't had any experience with them though. Check their warranty before purchase, and look up support forums and stuff to see how they do. Remember though, people with problems are often the most vocal. So take things with a grain of salt.

3) This link should give you a bit of a rough idea. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU13/705.

Thanks for that. I am planning 1080p, maybe triples in the future but by the time I get around to it I may be ready for a GPU upgrade anyway, even if just to dual SLI of whichever card I get ;). Also like I said I'm not planning to build until late Nov/Dec anyway (after exams), so maybe some prices will have gone down a bit by then - and also there's the possibility of pre-xmas specials :).

He is on max settings, V-sync simply keeps the frame rate at a multiple of whatever your monitor's frequency is (or something like that). The only thing he doesn't say is reflections.

Max settings... ? :O_o:

1920x1080
v-sync on
4 x AA
16 x AF
Shadows high
world detail - max

...again check page 6 ;) and my settings

1920x1080
v-sync on
8 x AA
16 x AF
6 x Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing
Shadow resolution - High
HDR - ON
World detail - Max
Cubemap resolution - High
Faces per frame - 6

...this is not max for nvidia :whistling: so control panel and ;)

etc...

with this settings his PC will perform max 25 -30 fps :) but he have ATI card ;) so I don't know :)

When you start upping the AI, its pure CPU power thats calling the performance shots, not GPU.

When running 24 cars, tests show my GPU usage drop to around 50% but CPU is nearly maxed out.
Single player and up to 12 cars my GPU is 99% and CPU is around 30% usage.
RAM usage is a little higher with more cars, but it never goes over 75%

My core components are: i7 930, 6gb DDR3, GTX770 4gb.

Not all of the 8 core threads are used much, so really hoping there is a fair amount of optimising to be done to AC yet to maximise the benefits of hyperthreading. Currently turning it off costs me a mere 10 FPS regardless of grid size.

I recommend anyone wondering why they arent getting the performance they expect, or are thinking of throwing 10x GTX780Ti's into their case should do these simple checks to know for sure where their bottleneck is.

I used:
nVidia Inspector - to monitor GPU activity.
CPUid - to monitor CPU activity.
Resource Monitor (via task manager) - to monitor RAM.

So hotlap or a grid of 12 cars, a better GPU would gain me performance.
A grid of 24 cars and a better GPU will gain me zero frames.

Everyones rig is different even down to the performance of identical components, but these principals remain the same. Hope this helps folks!

Relax guys, he didn't say what resolution he's running at..

Probably 640 x 480.. :roflmao:

Yeah I was just thinking that he never said what resolution he used. :)

Also, this is not meant as any disrespect to Justin but a 660 might not be enough IF you want to run AC at for example 1080 or higher with everything at max. Let's us see if/when they optimise the game some more what happends, especially regarding maximum number of AI on track.

I might have been a little misleading, sorry. I don't have everything maxed out, just the detail level at very high (though that was max, sorry). Running at 1920 x 1080 but still very pleased with 150+ fps, looks truly gorgeous :)
