The SimFeedback-AC DIY Motion Simulator thread

Hey guys. Thought I’d create a thread for those taking the plunge into this brilliant DIY project..
I will be starting mine soon and I know there are others thinking about it.. so feel free to share your knowledge and experiences so we can all enjoy this platform to its full potential. A huge thanks to the developers who have really knocked this one out of the park!

For all the internals for the actuator contact Amy - skye@ntl-bearing.com
She can supply everything you need. Just remind her you want the ends of the shafts chamfered and make sure she sends the right sized ball screw - we have had a couple of issues reported. She is very helpful though and the cost is pretty good.

Huge thanks to @RowanH for writing a comprehensive user guide which can be accessed here - https://www.rowanhick.com/sfx-100-build-and-running-guide

In addition, @anton_Chez has contributed a list of post numbers for some of the important settings etc..

I will try to keep this page updated with links to source the parts in other parts of the world. Just post whatever links you have and i'll add them here.

Please note: Not all the parts listed below are essential for the project. For the essential parts refer to the original shopping list.

Of course, i'm totally regretting offloading all my spare brackets, fixings and extrusion left over from my P1/NLMv3 build. I remember thinking "what possible use could I have for any of that now? My rig is complete!", lol.

Yeah, thanks for those Steve! They came in very handy mate! But who knew? :D

Ha ha..!
I've managed to salvage some bits from the old TV mount but I might be missing a few corner brackets, unless I mount each actuator with only three brackets? Mmm.. probably not a good idea, lol.
I think the only missing pieces from my build are the nuts and bolts (need to do an audit of what I already own) and the bloody T-nuts, which I didn't order from Kinetik because I didn't think their were sprung, so I ordered from eBay instead about four years ago. I think they're at the bottom of the South China Sea.

I ordered my profiles from Kinetic on 27th they shipped on 30th and arrived yesterday (5th) :)

No drama, no need for any comms. I guess I was lucky :)

Did not have a chance to check the ordered yet as it is in the office and I was not ;). Let's hope I did not jump the gun with no drama announcement ;)

Cheers

I think not only Kinetic, but DHL is to blame. We're both reasonably close to Germany. My profiles arrived within a week from ordering, while i was still 3d printing the parts.

If it needs to be shipped further it can take quite long with DHL. A couple of months ago i shipped a custom made wheel to a client in Australia through DHL. It took 3,5 weeks until it arrived. Track and trace was bad, telling me only DHL had received the package for the first 2 weeks.

Hey Guy's for those of you using the hollow shaft's from Emily (China) I altered the foot so it sticks to the shaft I know HoiHman made one for the hollow shaft from the wiki but mines works with the shaft's from Emily. I uploaded it to the rig building section of the SFX-100 discord channel. Or you can PM me and I can send you the STL.

In all seriousness... why aren't the sliders fitted? I'm guessing the slider's function is to stop the ball screw nut from turning so the screw can drive the piston up and down, isn't it?
They fit perfectly as a "piston in a cylinder" without grinding
Print it with layer 0.2 and only 25mm speed (1e layer speed 10% and 0% fan)
It takes longer but personally I find the result the best
Use the Wiki printer settings and apply these different values
I had print it with a Ender CR20 (same as ender 3 or cr10 series )
Petg filament

I was querying this photo which seems to show the actuators assembled without the sliders being fitted. My own sliders fit perfectly :)

Even my fits perfectly, I put in front of actuators to show you :)

I just have not yet mounted because I wait for 3 of these:

since the Chinese seller tried to scam me (or maybe it was just send me wrong...) sending me 1 of these instead of 4, and because I wait first the D Sub25 to command the servos before joining them to the actuators. :D

I got my Kinetik Aluminium delivered today! Only ordered on Monday so it seems any concerns with them as a supplier is unfounded. As the only critical piece of the build, the realisation that im actually going to build these is just sinking in! :)

That's a little disingenuous to those of us who waited an awful long time for delivery without any sense that our payment had been received, and who had multiple emails unanswered and zero communication from them after paying in full, but yes - it looks like they have finally improved their service. It doesn't excuse their earlier performance though, and I still feel the original complaints were justified. My own extrusions also arrived with very noticeable scratches down one side.
;)
