Earlier today British development studio Codemasters confirmed DiRT Rally 2.0 will be heading to stores in February 2019.

Designed as a sequel to the highly regarded DiRT Rally of 2015, DiRT 2.0 will be the thirteenth entry into the franchise formally known as the Colin McRae Rally series of games. With the new release, Codemasters have promised this new title will be bigger, better and more authentic than the previous DR game, something that is sure to please fans left feeling cold at the more arcade orientated DiRT 4.

Little is known of the new title at this early stage, although judging from the reveal trailer it does look like plenty of work has been undertaken by the developers already, suggesting that much of the heavy lifting is already complete as we head into the final stages of fine tuning prior to release.

What we do know makes for interesting reading however. Seemingly keen to make more of the attractive World Rallycross licence present in the original DiRT Rally, Codemasters have confirmed the initial release of 2.0 will feature no less than eight official circuits of the 2018 WorldRX season “at launch”, suggesting that more locations could be added to the game as DLC at a later date.

With WRX well covered, Codemasters have also confirmed six traditional rally locations and a wide selection of iconic rally cars from the history of the sport.

According to the announcement statement from Codemasters, players who make use of the pre order options will have an array of different benefits and perks from which to choose from, as detailed below:

All pre-orders editions of DiRT Rally 2.0 will include access to the amazing Porsche 911 RGT Rally Spec as a bonus vehicle to use on the stages. In addition there will also be a DiRT Rally 2.0 Deluxe Edition which also includes the first two seasons of post-launch additional content, each with three locations (split between rally and rallycross) and five early vehicles unlocks (Ford Escort MkII, Lancia Stratos, Subaru Impreza 1995, AUDI Sport quattro S1 E2 and Ford Fiesta OMSE SuperCar Lite). The Deluxe Edition will also allow players to get their hands on the game four days early, launching on 22nd February 2019 and also includes upgraded starter cars for My Team, in-game bonuses and high reward events. More details about the seasons will be revealed soon.

I really really really hope it's actually a sim this time, and of course VR - without exclusivity!

After Dirt4, today's announcement made me anxious that they'll disappoint again.
But I'll be cheering them on, hoping for the greatness the title deserves!

Well, all the people expecting to play Dirt Rally 2.0 tonight because they thought they will mirror the original Dirt Rally and do an Early Access launch on the day of announcement will surely be disappointed.

And my personal opinion on the announcement and trailer can only be described as one big "meh". After Dirt 4, one of the biggest (sim)racing disappointments of the past few years for me, I really don't see much to get excited about. Especially not with how they tried to build hype for this announcement, only to give us a few vague mentions and a teaser trailer that could've just had the words "Dirt 4" (or "Dirt 4.5") rather than "Dirt Rally 2.0" shown at the end and nobody would notice any difference. It just comes off as "yeah, it's been a year or so, so we're making yet another slightly iterative rally game that will be the best thing you've ever played, and we really mean it this time, promise". Well, OK, if you say so.

I'm sorry that I can't be more excited or positive, I really am. I sure hope that will change in the future.

Rallycross has made me apprehensive already.

When will it be possible to place a per-order?
You can summon a pre-order by leaving a tube off lube beside an open window, turning your back to the window, dropping your pants and bending over. It also helps if you chant "of course I'll take the extended warranty" over and over again.

following the theory that we're only allowed one decent rally game a decade, this'll probably be rubbish. hope it isn't though.

and rallycross is bollocks.

We are allowed 2 good rally games each decade (though, that's all down to taste I guess). 90's had Colin McRae Rally and Rally Championship.
00's had Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and RBR.
10's have had DiRT Rally - let's hope for DiRT Rally 2.0 as well :)

Rallycross is awesome! Though, I hope there will be a chance to drive it properly online, so we can have RDRX as well...

I am surprised that I'm so far the only one who love to see the old Gr.A Golf in the game! :x3:

If they are smart they will do physics exactly how (sim)rally gamers expect them to be (slidey, icey, airborne happy, artificially hard because ...sim) rather than being closer to reality. It will always remain a mystery why DR physics were praised as the bestest thing ever despite their flaws. Proof that you do not need them to be realistic but to just click with people at the right time vs their expectations...And people expect to sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide.

I cant blame you for being skeptical, @Martin Fiala especially after the last outing. My only hope is they see that the community is dying for another title like DR and they commit to giving it to us.

They have a chance here to build something really special. I know it's Codemasters and it probably won't happen, but if they put their pedigree to good use, we might actually be in for a surprise. Dirt Rally took the digital racing world by storm. It's the title responsible for my entry into sim racing and the ridiculous amount of money I've poured into it since. Dirt 4 was a monumental disappointment and hopefully in light of that fact, they actually believe in this title rather than throwing it out there and hoping for the best. Which is exactly what Dirt Rally was. It started as a passion project (at least that's what it looked like) and with the communites help and feedback through early access we were able to grow that title together.

They have that base now. They've tried things since and know that most of it didn't work. Procedural tracks among other things were a great idea but without a base to build on were not really ever going to work the way we expected them to. Let's hope they give us everything that made Dirt Rally great, improve the things that weren't perfect (tarmac FFB, lack of km's, etc) and build a community around it. The announcement of DLC at launch is normally not welcome but for a title like this it absolutely is. The ability to add stuff to a rally title is paramount to it's success and longevity.

I am cautious but totally optimistic that they've learned from the past and know what will be successful. Our community of sim racers is growing and a title does not need to be classed as arcade to make money. I remember a streamer I watch for fighting games actually playing DR with a controller on PS4 on stream. He was loving it. He did not need the controls and physics to be abysmal with a wheel to enjoy the game with a pad. Authentic does not need to be exclusive to a wheel and pedal set. If they understand this I'm hoping we can all help build a viable rally titel that continues to deliver content and enjoyment for a long time.

And once all of that is said and done, opening the door for modders to build their own courses would be the cherry on top. RBR has SO many stages due to people building long after it's developers stopped. We have awesome tracks built in AMS, AC and rF2, why not here?

Well, I don't know what to feel about this. It looks just like a revised DiRT 4 on the graphics (but I wouldn't get my hopes too high on physics). At least it will have hand-crafted stages, new rally cars (I hope they keep all cars from DiRT Rally/4 too) and more RallyX content (despite I wouldn't mind some classic content on this side, you know, the top divisions of the 80s, 90s and mid 00s look great).
Time will tell if they deliver, I hope that, after F1 2018, they found their path.
So, only six rally locations but EIGHT rallycross tracks?

It makes me wonder what would be possible in terms of variety for rallyes if they didn't have the WRX license.
Well, I think the RallyX license doesn't have anything to do with the number of rally locations. If you take a look at the CMR series, those games only got 8 countrys each, so you can say they never got the games with the greates variety in countrys...

Slidey, icey and artificially hard? Pretty much sums up vanilla RBR doesn't it?

I just wish people stop using RBR as the most realistic reference. If you really have to, at least say RBR NGP, because they are pretty much two very different things.
