Speaking of Audi, they initially intended to replace the R8 LMP with the R9 LMP with a mock-up monocoque produced in 2003 and the intention of the prototype running the 3.6-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

This project eventually evolved into the R10 TDi.

I tried to google, but all the result are BMW station wagon (touring) cars.
Jonathan Palmer tried to launch the Touring 1 Series as a potential rival to the BTCC in 2004. -
