A new car coming to Assetto Corsa in 2020, and it's a Ferrari? Sounds like a good opportunity to dust off the racing gloves and take it out for a spin if you ask me...
  • Testing the upcoming Ferrari 488 Challenge EVO.
  • New car coming to Assetto Corsa as part of Hublot Ferrari Esport Series.
  • Car will be made freely available to players who register for the series.

Yes, unbelievably we've had two new manufacturer supported high profile car releases for Assetto Corsa in the last couple of weeks, firstly with the stunning KTM X-Bow GT4 that dropped on July 26th, and now the recent news that Ferrari plan to release their 488 Challenge EVO race car as part of an upcoming new official esport series.

Frankly, I'm delighted to see new and high quality content in Assetto Corsa, as it has served as a great opportunity to reacquaint myself with the simulation after a significant period of time away, and helps to breathe new life into a title that continues to be expanded in impressive ways by the modding community.

So, an official Ferrari in a legendary sim... that just cries out for a video don't you think? Here is my thoughts and impressions from the upcoming Ferrari 488 Challenge EVO in Assetto Corsa:

The Ferrari Hublot Esport Series is set to begin in September 2020 for both Professional and Amateur sim racers, with registrations for the series open to EU residents over the age of 18 from August 7th. Those players who register for the series will receive this new Ferrari, along with a selection of custom liveries that will be used throughout the duration of the championship.

The 488 Challenge EVO is as the name suggests, and evolution of the already well established one make series racer - having been revealed to the world at the end of 2019 and set to take centre stage for the 2020 racing season. Benefiting from increased aerodynamic performance, more power, extra grip and improved safety features alongside the more aggressive styling characteristics over its predecessor, the car absolutely looks on point in both real and virtual environments - but what does it feel like to drive? Well, check out the video within this article to find out!

Assetto Corsa is available now on both PC and console.

Oh definitely more realistic... nothing screams realism more than these “blobs” for background scenery...

To be fair, rF2 graphics, as well as AC graphics depend a LOT on the quality of the content. If all rF2 tracks were made to the quality of Sebring or Le Mans, it would be a different story. Just like you can find (too) many mods that make AC look terrible (I know this is official rF2 content, but the point still stands).

No it doesn’t... AC is not at fault what modders create... all their laserscanned org content tracks apart from Zandvoort are superior and not outdated. rF2 should have already fix their old content few years ago. But they just create new payed mods to keep the company alive.

AC engine is also perfect for VR not like other ISI games (rF2 or raceroom)

As a Aussie for the first time ever i feel sad that im here in Australia :o
I wonder what format the mod file will be ? Hopefully it will just make its way on the sim black market for all us who will not be able to get to the EU ....thanks Human Malware :(

All of us in the UK ( including Mr Jeffries ) are ineligable too, and we're literally next door.

Assuming they mean EU citizens & not some vague "people who live in Europe".

Yes, AC original content (apart from Zandvoort a bit and a couple of older cars) is of exceptional quality and make the game look absolutely great. I agree. The point of my post was that the "bad" graphics of rF2 is not an inherent issue of the rF2 engine. rF2 CAN look absolutely great even for modern standards in my opinion, but that depends on the quality of content the developers (and modders) produce. Had it not been for CSP/Sol and GrassFX, in my opinion base rF2 can look on par or maybe a bit better than base AC in the best case scenario for rF2 (e.g. Portland, Le Mans) - but not on average if I take all official content...

But I have to add I have a very specific taste in graphics. I like them clean. For example, I do not like the art style of Project CARS 2 at all, which is regarded to be awesome in the community from a graphical perspective. I absolutely prefer the cleaner style of AMS 2 on the same engine - meanwhile I have seen in a lot of posts how people are disappointed by AMS 2 graphics compared to PC2...

Sorry for a bit of OT but I wanted to add this for better understanding of my... preferences.

omg thank you
