The year is slowly coming to an end. 2022 has been a year of many ups and downs. Both overall and in sim racing. So let's take a look back at what everyone's year has been like. Today, we're asking the question: What's your most played sim in 2022?

DISCLAIMER:
Before anyone complains, this is a large list. It includes some titles that may not be considered "hardcore sims". But that doesn't matter. We are all racing fans at heart. So let's stay united.

With that disclaimer out of the way, let me tell you a bit about my personal sim racing experiences this year.

I have come to the conclusion that my time spent on the rig has decreased compared to 2020 and 2021. Out of the games I played this year, RaceRoom takes the crown. But I have barely touched it in the 2nd half of the year. The reason is simple: the league I raced in now switched to ACC.

Therefore, my 2nd most played sim is ACC since that switch. And there I have been mostly streaming the races. So all of my ACC "seat time" is actually commentating time.

rFactor 2 is 3rd on my list of sims. And the playtime was almost exclusively in Q1 of 2022.

Personally, I just hope I get a bit more free time in 2023 to do what I love once again: Racing.

What have your experiences been this year? Tell us a bit about your sim racing story in 2022 in the comments below!

statistically, i played raceroom the most (way before i got ac and acc), but i felt like i enjoyed assetto corsa way more when i got it (same for competizione)

To put things in perspective, according to Steam stat info ETS 2 generally has 3 to 4 times the player numbers of AC:

100 percent and it's not even a joke: There is a overlap with ETS2 and AC(ETS2 is also driving in traffic). BY FAR the most populated servers are people driving in traffic in AC. So AC's popularity in steam charts compared to other sims should be taken with a grain of salt regarding sim racing because clearly the majority of AC racers are kids in traffic(Japan or tourist ring) and drifting around in circles.

Yes of course there is a serious percentage of sim racers too in AC and I think that the stats from this RD poll make it clear how much sim racers there are really compared to the other sims/how it's really divided. This poll is for that reason WAY more accurate than steam charts because it's focused solely on sim racing since racedepartments crowd are mainly simracers.

I spent the most time in AMS2. I'm trying to qualify for LFM, so now I'm leaning more into ACC (I was all set to do the test at Misano and then the seasons changed - oops!). But what I am reminded of once again is how spoiled we are for choice. If the sim racing world only had one of these games, we'd still be OK. Sure, there are things that some do better than others. We may like the UX of one more than another. But if someone told me that I could only play RF2, AC (with CSP and all the other mods), ACC, AMS2, or R3E, I'd be fine with that.

We should be thankful for all the choices we have. Choice is good.

Very true but irrelevant when comparing AC having daily peak players 30 times ( 15,000 to 500) those numbers are the total amount of people playing the game while their steam account is online.
it is a fact backed by data that AC is vastly more popular than AMS2, so is ACC, 10 times. That said popular is just that: popular. If one likes AMS2 better it makes AMS2 better for them, who cares if a lot more people prefer an other title. Just a surprise, somehow, that in this poll, so many members of this forum/thread are claiming AMS2 is the most played title for them. Not the first time that RD as a distorted perspective on what the majority of people prefer and play.
On a personnel note, AMS2 is my third favorite and third most played title, after AC and ACC. I find very surprising that in light of the variety of content available and the overall quality of the experience, ASM2 does not have more players. I hope for the sake of Reiza, which I admire for their hard work and dedication to their title, that this title gains a very deserved traction and popularity. :)

I play Race 07 with mods of this site for extra tracks and a F1 2021 car mod. I also have R factor 2 but its hard to setup. Race 07 is old but older games are easyer to run as they use less resources and are less tempermental. No bugs no patches. Like the games i grew up with in the 80's real simple and just plug and play.

I really love all the various simulations.
Unfortunately, i should quit my job to play them all.

To give an answer, ACC ( my favorite) and AC for me.
A little of raceroom, kartkrft, rfactor 2 , dirt rally 2.
Some gtr 2, grand prix legends, nascar 2003.

2023 may be automobilista and automobilista 2 (the only sim i will keep on purchasing dlc, with ACC)

During Christmas holidays, i only started automobilista 2

the biggest problem with AC is that nobody want to race here

btw why there is so huge player base spike? it was like 10k month ago, weird

My all time steam stats:
  • Assetto Corsa = 238 hours
  • AMS2 = 105 hours (mostly all this year)
  • DR 2.0 = 50 hours
There are not enough hours in a day (to work and play sim's) :O_o:

AMS2 is great and looks amazing, but we are getting new AC tracks all the time. And tracks are getting more and more beatiful, too. AC is so versatile.
I didn't have time to write more yesterday... For me, racing is not that important. Driving itself is important, driving on various tracks and roads, controlling and adjusting the car. Improving your own skills and laptimes. Sometimes I race with AI in AMS2.

DR2.0 is actually the one of these that has given the most breathtaking experiences.
I have a motion sim platform. When I drive (in VR) through Finland's special stages, where the car climbs and descends steep hills, slides on fast corners, jumps off and descends while the dampers and springs are doing their best, it's a huge experience! :) In general, running special stages and getting up on the global scoreboard is such a mentally heavy task that I don't always have the energy to do it. That's why DR2 mileage is lower than others. DR2.0 itself is a staggering experience in VR with motion sim. The graphics could be a little better, but who has time to look at the scenery anyway?

I'm guessing these days a lot of people who come over to PC from console land on ACC as it's the got the highest profile over there.

How many of them convert into playing other Sims who knows.

I voted already on this a while ago and knew something was amiss...
@Julian Strasser, Why are there no early SimBin titles in your list of sims?
Seriously dude, GTR, GTL and GTR2 are head and shoulders above many newer titles in regard of being a Race SIM but no mention

True, could've included them too. Then again, I could've listed much more. But tbh, I just wasn't thinking any of those classic games get the most playtime nowadays. Now that I think about it, I also forgot to ask about Richard Burns Rally.

Eh, there's always a next year. ;)

AC 97%

In 2023, I'm going to TRY to get AMS2 and RF2 configured with my rig (both installed but unplayed since day 1). I've failed the last 2 years while AC is the gift that keeps giving where everything 'just works'

Don't get me wrong, very happy with AC - just a bit of FOMO
