The year is slowly coming to an end. 2022 has been a year of many ups and downs. Both overall and in sim racing. So let's take a look back at what everyone's year has been like. Today, we're asking the question: What's your most played sim in 2022?

DISCLAIMER:
Before anyone complains, this is a large list. It includes some titles that may not be considered "hardcore sims". But that doesn't matter. We are all racing fans at heart. So let's stay united.

With that disclaimer out of the way, let me tell you a bit about my personal sim racing experiences this year.

I have come to the conclusion that my time spent on the rig has decreased compared to 2020 and 2021. Out of the games I played this year, RaceRoom takes the crown. But I have barely touched it in the 2nd half of the year. The reason is simple: the league I raced in now switched to ACC.

Therefore, my 2nd most played sim is ACC since that switch. And there I have been mostly streaming the races. So all of my ACC "seat time" is actually commentating time.

rFactor 2 is 3rd on my list of sims. And the playtime was almost exclusively in Q1 of 2022.

Personally, I just hope I get a bit more free time in 2023 to do what I love once again: Racing.

What have your experiences been this year? Tell us a bit about your sim racing story in 2022 in the comments below!

GTR 1.

I don't know how/where to view those Steam stats (Steam's options, settings, features, DLC, stores, mods, etc. is an absolutely convoluted, unorganized mess) but I'm pretty sure it's GTR1 for the past year, no joke.

iRacing was my #1 only because I wasn't quick enough to get my LFM license in ACC. Maybe 2023 will be different.

iRacing easily #1 overall. AMS2 400+ hours single player #1 (52%) followed by AC but I haven’t played AC since April when AMS2 hooked me.

On Steam's main store page, hover your mouse over "New & Noteworthy". When the menu appears select "Steam Replay 2022".

Once on the Replay Page on the right hand side of the screen, click the share button. (Your privacy settings will not change the next step)

A window opens with a screen shot of your summery. Click "Save Image" on the Format you want. Save it on your PC/Device.

This is from 'Wilko Jone's post previously...it works great:thumbsup:

What I find interesting, if not insane, is that if we look at how many people actually use AC in steam charts, AC has 30 times more daily peak players , ACC, 10 times, even RF2 or R3E have double what AMS2 has, but in this pool, magically, AMS2 is the most played game, close second to AC. Is that insane , I let you decide.
I assume that it might be related to the fact that part of the site viewers came in from following the work of editors and youtubers that talk about AMS2 quite often, therefore the results show how many of the AMS2 players are also race department readers, naturally. Let's say that perhaps the players from the most popular sims are not here / follow specific content about their favorite sim only / didn't saw it / didn't bothered posting... not quite insanity :coffee:

Everyone that I talk to outside of the racedepartment crowd never heard of Automobilista 2 but everyone heard of Assetto Corsa, and most people heard of rfactor 2 too. That's why AMS2 is more popular here then elsewhere. Simply because people don't know about it.

Automobilista 2 deserves way more popularity. Reiza still does terrible in marketing since they leave their terrible demo online. That demo doesn't represent the game at all. I'm sure that many people don't buy game because of that demo alone.

Agreed.

The other thing is the survey is “which is your most played“.

If it was a proportional poll it might look very different. Depending on when this survey came out I could have been AMS 2 or RF2. AMS 2 got the vote but I’m currently playing RF2 while I wait for the next AMS 2 content and if I‘d clicked the button next week RF2 may well have got the win.

Some sims may well have a very high proportion of peoples second most played but still with a high number of hours.

The only conclusion I can draw from that is that a lot of AC and ACC players are not visiting this site or are just not interested joining the discussion here. But that is strange for at least AC, since RaceDepartment is one of the main sites to go to for obtaining AC mods.

Does the AMS2 Beta count towards the total in the Steam charts? I spend most of my time using the the beta branch rather than the release version, maybe it splits the count between the 2 so it looks less than it actually is?

Ride 3 for me (I get most games in sales a year or two after release). RF2 next as I finally got back into in November.

Both considerably behind American Truck Sim though!

AC, mostly
I know that WF is arcade, but it has some sim racing traits that make me play it most.
ACC is a love/hate situation, because it's not a sim racing game, it's a tire sim game ...

In my defence, I use a PS4 for all my shooter stuff, the PC (Steam) is really only used on the sim gear.
