What Le Mans Content Would You Like to See in Automobilista 2?

Automobilista 2 McLaren F1 GTR Mercedes-AMG CLK-GTR Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans Content.jpg
With the big update to v1.5 and the release of the Adrenaline Pack Pt. 1 DLC in the rear view mirror, Reiza Studios still has big things planned for Automobilista 2 in 2023: The Brazilians have confirmed the modern Circuit de La Sarthe to come to AMS2 towards the end of the year, with retro versions to follow in 2024. Of course, they need fitting vehicles as well.

While nothing in particular has been confirmed regarding models, 2023 prototypes and up-to-date versions of GT3 cars are planned on the modern content side. GT3 is going to replace the outgoing GTE class from 2024 onwards, and the latter is already represented in AMS2, although only with two of 2023's cars - while the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R and the Porsche 911 RSR are present, the Ferrari 488 GTE and the Aston Martin Vantage AMR are missing. No prototypes from recent years can currently be found in AMS2.

Blasts From the Past

Going back a few years, the top classes at Le Mans are represented a little better, however: The GT1 class from circa 1998 features the Porsche 911 GT-1 98, Nissan R390 GT1, Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM and McLaren F1 GTR, only missing the Toyota GT-One and Panoz Esperante GTR-1 to complete that class. While GT1 was supposed to be based on road cars (which manufacturers managed to circumvent, of course), proper prototypes were also on the grid at the time in addition to the GT2 class featuring the Chrysler Viper GTS-R or Porsche 911 GT2. The class had much more variety in 1997, also including cars like the Marcos LM600 and the Callaway Corvette LM.

Automobilista 2 Group C Sauber-Mercedes C9 Le Mans Content.jpg

The circa-1998 content could work well with the announced 1990s version of Le Mans. The same holds true for the Group C cars that are already in AMS2, as they raced from the mid-1980s into the early 1990s. The Porsche 962C, Sauber-Mercedes C9 and Nissan R89C are in their late 1980s specs, so technically, they would be at home at a Le Mans with the uninterrupted Mulsanne Straight - but maybe that will be available as an alternative layout.

Depending on when the third confirmed version of the track is set, the 1970s layout of Le Mans might differ substantially. An early-1970s layout would make for a fitting stage for popular cars like the Porsche 917 (both in its short and long tail configurations) or the Ferrari 512S that raced there until 1971. This era, immortalized in the 1971 cult classic film Le Mans starring Steve McQueen, was the base for the Spirit of Le Mans DLC for Project CARS 2 in 2018, which also came with LMP1 machinery of then-recent years.

What 1970s Exactly?

However, the GT cars of that era that are already in the sim are a few years younger than that, so the Porsche 911 RSR 3.0 and the Chevrolet Corvette C3 R could hint at a mid-70s version. Meanwhile, cars from the early 200s could also feel at home in either the modern or 1990s version, depending on when the latter is set exactly. There are plenty of possibilities, not just for the top level of sports car racing of the respective times, but for the lower-tier classes that accompanied them as well.

Your Thoughts

Umm what i want for Lemons ....

May be a nice Multiplayer System with Licenses and competitions?

But i dunno.... considering that all Reiza racing sims lacked that may be we are just dreaming ?

I remember one Renato Interview when was asked about the multiplayer.. and answered that it was really not their priority, Big LOL Renato, YOU are great!

Very wise words..at the end who the heck want to race online these days in simracing? lol.

Toyota GT One 1998, Fefe 333SP, Fefe 550, Saleen S7, Panoz Esperante GT1, LMH cars... If I could really dream I would want one of these above anything :p

AMS 2 Modder Thunderflash did add the Jaguar XJR-12, Mazda 787B, and the Nissan GTP From PC2s.

But that's a tall order to achieve right now. from the cars we see so far we are gonna be getting cars for the 89 Le mans Race as it has some amazing historic significance to the end of Gr.C
Thunderflash has just stopped his modding activity. If no one keep on working on his mods, we can consider them as dead with the next updates of AMS2. There is something I can't understand with his conversions, some cars sound different and bad compared to the original pcars2 cars. Anyway, we can't count on these mods anymore. So any pcars2 content brought by Reiza to AMS2 would be welcome. Group 5 cars completed by early group C and GTX cars would be amazing.

I also wish fresh new content :

- completing the current GT1 (some are in pcars2) and adding the Group C cars of the era ;

- full Le Mans 1993 grid with amazing and rarely simulated amazing cars (jaguar xj220, lotus esprit...), including maybe my 2 favorite french ones, the Peugoet 905 (although I prefer the design of the previous versions of the car, with the Peugeot's typical agressive front of that era) and Venturi 500LM (the WR doesn't look bad too). GT cars coming back to Le Mans this year, I think 93 is a good year.

- full Le Mans 2003 grid, with the F550, the Pagani Zonda, the Bentley Speed 8...

For sure, a 70s full grid would be amazing. In fact, one grid for each decade would be perfect.

EDIT : stop dreaming, if we get conversions from pcars 2 (GT1s, LMPs and 70s cars ; these are already a lot of licensing fees to pay), a few other cars to complete the 1989 group C, and several Le Mans configurations, it will be already a lot considering the price of the game. A specific year whole grid for le mans and the track would alone worth at least 25 to 30 euros.

Le Mans 67, 71, 78, 80, 89, 91, 95, 99 & current and don’t forget the Chaparral 2F and Jag XJR9!

I prefer 5 quality cars where the creators have spend all their time perfecting the car's characteristics (according to real life data, for as much as possible). Too much focus on quantity imho.

That's because you cannot use your own sounds for car mods, but have to use whatever is already there in the engine. The soundbanks of those PC2 cars probably aren't in AMS2 anymore.

To my knowledge Thunderflash continues to mod, there was a post about that on the Reiza forums.

Thunderflash is actually back he just announced he is adding DTM cars from PC2

A complete grid of any of the le mans race from any year would be nice, rather than a sprinkle of some models from some years. It does not have to be at the same time as the track release, but it would be something to look forward to.
Recreating/reenacting one of the lemans race would have value to me and something not available, as official content, anywhere else.

He changed his mind indeed.
It's absolutely disappointing that modders can't integrate their own sounds in the game, that's just a modding killer (I understand why the VRC Audi GTO sounds bad too). Hope Reiza will find a way to solve that huge issue ; I assume it isnpart of the modding tools which have been announced. Personnally, with all the content available in the vanilla game, even if I'd like some 90s GTs and Group5 cars and if any new addition is welcome, I would rather see new modded tracks (there is still a lot of Madness engine games conversions to do, especially the historic ones from test drive ferrari legends).

Group C 1982 and Fuji so that we can enjoy a WEC 1982 in Japan race.

Then follow it up later with some JGTC cars.

This part of racing history is greatly underutilized.

I know I am in the minority here, but I would love to see pre-war cars. I imagine they would handle so differently from anything we are used to seeing, and could be both fun and challenging.
I think I've only driven such cars in Race Driver 3, not on any serious simulator. I admit I should try these cars (I've downloaded some mods for AC), it should be something really different ; I always have initial doubts about slow cars, although some are incredibly fun.
I'm sure these cars are fun too but I don't think they suit well long tracks like Le Mans. On their time they were the pinacle of car technology, but with a top speed around 215km/h and 220km/h on huge straitght lines, they should not be really impressive on our simulators (they must be impressive IRL for sure).

I think your idea (and all other full historic grids wishes) would fit better the dedicated Le Mans game, as a DLC. It would meet its audience. I think it will be a perfect game to offer complete historic seasons. AMS2 being a multiple categories game, I don't think this historic full season thing is really expected by any of us. But some preWW2 cars would be a nice and original addition. On these short Brazilian tracks, with long straight lines (they amazingly suit very well slower old cars ; this time I may be in the minority there, liking this type of tracks), I'm sure they would be really fun.

Peugeot 908 - the torque monster, 905 - the ultimate group C, the pole-position winning Mark Blundell Nissan group C, Mazda winning gr. C & the IMSA Eagle Toyota with the giant downforce numbers.
From the weird Garage 56 type cars - the Panoz & Deltawing! Especially the Deltawing, it's sooo responsive to direction change.
From the GTs, I find it strange that there is no Aston DBR9 GT1 in any sim! Also, the Viper GT1, the classic 993 GT2 and of course, the crazy flamethrower F40 GT1!

I have to agree the speed of these old cars would not be impressive, but that would be missing the point a bit. What I think would make driving pre-war cars fun, even on Le Mans, would be their lack of sophistication compared to different time periods.

One thing that simulators can do well is to showcase the evolution of race cars and road cars over time. Something I enjoy doing once in a while, is to choose a track, then hot lap that track starting with the oldest vintage car in a Sim until I feel comfortable with it. Then jump a decade or so into the future and repeat this.

AMS2 is great for this with F1, though I wish it went a bit further back. I suppose a part of what draws me to simulators is history and seeing how things have evolved.
