What Le Mans Content Would You Like to See in Automobilista 2?

With the big update to v1.5 and the release of the Adrenaline Pack Pt. 1 DLC in the rear view mirror, Reiza Studios still has big things planned for Automobilista 2 in 2023: The Brazilians have confirmed the modern Circuit de La Sarthe to come to AMS2 towards the end of the year, with retro versions to follow in 2024. Of course, they need fitting vehicles as well.

While nothing in particular has been confirmed regarding models, 2023 prototypes and up-to-date versions of GT3 cars are planned on the modern content side. GT3 is going to replace the outgoing GTE class from 2024 onwards, and the latter is already represented in AMS2, although only with two of 2023's cars - while the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R and the Porsche 911 RSR are present, the Ferrari 488 GTE and the Aston Martin Vantage AMR are missing. No prototypes from recent years can currently be found in AMS2.

Blasts From the Past

Going back a few years, the top classes at Le Mans are represented a little better, however: The GT1 class from circa 1998 features the Porsche 911 GT-1 98, Nissan R390 GT1, Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM and McLaren F1 GTR, only missing the Toyota GT-One and Panoz Esperante GTR-1 to complete that class. While GT1 was supposed to be based on road cars (which manufacturers managed to circumvent, of course), proper prototypes were also on the grid at the time in addition to the GT2 class featuring the Chrysler Viper GTS-R or Porsche 911 GT2. The class had much more variety in 1997, also including cars like the Marcos LM600 and the Callaway Corvette LM.

Automobilista 2 Group C Sauber-Mercedes C9 Le Mans Content.jpg

The circa-1998 content could work well with the announced 1990s version of Le Mans. The same holds true for the Group C cars that are already in AMS2, as they raced from the mid-1980s into the early 1990s. The Porsche 962C, Sauber-Mercedes C9 and Nissan R89C are in their late 1980s specs, so technically, they would be at home at a Le Mans with the uninterrupted Mulsanne Straight - but maybe that will be available as an alternative layout.

Depending on when the third confirmed version of the track is set, the 1970s layout of Le Mans might differ substantially. An early-1970s layout would make for a fitting stage for popular cars like the Porsche 917 (both in its short and long tail configurations) or the Ferrari 512S that raced there until 1971. This era, immortalized in the 1971 cult classic film Le Mans starring Steve McQueen, was the base for the Spirit of Le Mans DLC for Project CARS 2 in 2018, which also came with LMP1 machinery of then-recent years.

What 1970s Exactly?

However, the GT cars of that era that are already in the sim are a few years younger than that, so the Porsche 911 RSR 3.0 and the Chevrolet Corvette C3 R could hint at a mid-70s version. Meanwhile, cars from the early 200s could also feel at home in either the modern or 1990s version, depending on when the latter is set exactly. There are plenty of possibilities, not just for the top level of sports car racing of the respective times, but for the lower-tier classes that accompanied them as well.

Your Thoughts

All the cars from the IMSA 2024 Weather Tech Championship, Michelin Pilot Challenge, and the VP Racing Sports Car Challenge. But that's probably not going to happen, so maybe just include some of the best competitive models like the Acura, Ferrari, Porsche, Toyota, BMW, Cadillac, and SCG.

iRacing will have four Prototype models soon.

Le Mans is the type of thing that gets addictive with the variety in cars that we have seen over the years.

So far as games are concerned, GTR2 has the maximum number of cars that took part in Le Mans followed by Assetto Corsa.

So far as AMS2 is concerned, would love to see the following from different eras:

Ferrari 499P
Porsche 919 Hybrid
Bentley Speed 8
Mazda 787B
Jaguar XJR-9
Porsche 917K/LH
Ford GT40
Ferrari 250 GTO

Layout wise. it would be nice to have modern layout, the one with no chicanes on the Mulsanne straight and probably the 60s layout.

It would be interesting to see how class racing works in this game.

What I say stands for any modern simulator game: A full grid of cars and drivers, with the drivers AI perfoming as the real life counterparts as much as possible, and including a le mans track from that specific season not only in layout but also in decorations. I'm tired of fantasy cars that vaguely resemble a real rooster of cars, fantasy decorations and decals.

Well, individual 'wishlists' aside, I feel the the era of 1960 to 1964 would be some of the most special even if not the most Iconic, though with the many 'specials' on the entry list it would be a Devs nightmare,
The Aston Martin Project cars, the Low drag E types, 'AC' Cobra's and Costin bodied Sunbeams, and Listers, the Lola MK6 and Ford GT, and the special bodied Ferrari's, Maserati's, Panhard's, Lotus's, Morgan's, MG's et al, a true nightmare for any studio.
But yeah, a dream.

From what I can base off of from PC1/2 content we will defentatly get a Modern and the 68-71 layout (hopefully we can get one without the final chicane) maybe include the bugatti circuit for the F1 cars.

With GTPC and GT1s There is defentatly gonna be a le mans 90s layout with our without the mulsanne chicanes.

As for cars there is confirmation that LMHY is coming to the game (Probably the Caddy, 963, and the BMW probably not the 499P, or the 9X8 :(). Im hoping we get late 90s early 00s LMP1 like the R8, Speed 8, Panoz, the old caddy (Maybe we will see Mods for VRC???) and finally add some old GT1/2 cars from the 90s/2000s. Viper GTS, Vette C5, Ferrari 360, Porsche 996?
Between Reiza and the AMS2 Modding community growing more and more by the day we can get a lot of content here

FINAL WORD FOR REIZA!!!!!!!
MAX OUT THE CAR COUNT AND ADD BETTER CLASS SEPARATION!!!! I keep getting one car on one class and the rest of the cars are from the the lower division!

More Group C, More Group C, and More Group C. I'd like to be able to make full fields from 1982 until 1993.
AMS 2 Modder Thunderflash did add the Jaguar XJR-12, Mazda 787B, and the Nissan GTP From PC2s.

But that's a tall order to achieve right now. from the cars we see so far we are gonna be getting cars for the 89 Le mans Race as it has some amazing historic significance to the end of Gr.C

As it's going to be recycled content for the most part you just need to take alook at PC games to get a grasp of what is coming. I am not sure about Ferrari lisences and their likeliness but considering that even rF2 and RRE have Ferraris I see no reason why Reiza shouldn't be able to get a few cars. The 80s version of the track needs to be created and I wouldn't be surprised about some new cars here or there.

I would love to see a Chevrolet Corvette C5R. It's been a while since it's been featured anywhere. Of course, it would make most sense to add it along with at least some of it's competitors. :)

The Vipers, then the Corvette vs Ferrari 550 battles..I seem to remember the Corvette was almost never called Chevrolet Corvette. Like the mundane American brand somehow demeaned the bellowing Yellow Vettes.

Personal priorities.
  1. Full grid + precise track modelling, reflecting real life edition, nomatter year.
  2. Full grid = accurate authentic modelling for each car. You should feel the difference.
  3. 1988 edition. My 1st on location experience as a spectator.
  4. 1959 edition. I would love the full pack. DB Panhard, Lotus Elite, Saab 93 Sport GT competing against Ferrari 250GT California/LWB, Aston Martin DBR1/300, Porsche 718RSK, Lotus 15, Lister Sport, etc. All of them. And Carroll Shelby competing against Olivier Gendebien, Phil Hill, Stirling Moss, Lucien Bianchi, Jean Behra, Dan Gurney, Jo Bonnier, Wolfgang von Trips, Graham Hill, Hans Herrmann, Bruce McLaren, Innes Ireland, Pedro&Ricardo Rodriguéz, Mike Taylor, Colin Chapman, etc. They were all there.
  5. 1997 edition. Don Panoz bringing his 1st edition Esperante GTR-1 Batmobile. Tom Kristensen's first ever display at Le Mans. Without any preparation. Seat not suiting in his TWR Porsche WSC-95. Never raced at nights before, smashes lap record at nights. Chrysler Viper GTS-R. Lister Storm GTL. Porsche 993 GT2. Saleen. McLaren F1 GTR. Nissan R390 GT1. Marcos LM600. Ferrari 333SP. Lotus Elise GT1. The Courages. The Kremer K8. The Mazda Kudzu DLM. The Callaway Corvette. Closing my eyes and hearing this fabulously orchestrated music to my ears again.
Simracing can bring it all back.

Rubbed the lamp, now here are my 3 wishes:

1) Focus the on 91-93 3.5 litre era of C1 and C2 cars. These are symphonies on wheels and will forever be engrained as my golden era of powerplant design as there was lots of engineering crossover-trickledown from F1 at this time (as we have today in LMDH). Your era may vary with your age. This one fits mine.

2) Complete the '98 grid (add the TS020 and Esperante and it's a done deal.)

3) 1994 full grid including the GT2 and IMSA GTS cars would make for a stunning multi-class spectacle that brought LeMans closer to relevance with road cars for the first time in decades.
