Upcoming Racing Games and Updates We Should See in 2022

New Sim Racing Games for 2022 01.jpg
After several years of rapid growth, this should be another exciting year for the racing game and racing sim genres. Here are some things that should be released in 2022.

One of the things that benefitted from more people staying home for entertainment over the past two years is sim racing. Whereas a celebrity or real world racing driver posting a picture of their home sim rig in 2019 would have made news in our niche community, in 2020 and 2021 it has become almost expected. This surge in popularity is sure to continue into the next calendar year and bring with it some exciting new titles and content for all of us to enjoy. Here are some of the things we should see released next year.

1) Assetto Corsa Competizione Updates - Kunos' most recent major update to ACC brought a new car, improved performance, and some subtle news that more was to come. Their official launch video of the 1.8 update was tagged with a rapid-fire image showcase featuring American tracks and the newest edition of the Porsche Cup car. This is in addition to the Super Trofeo EVO2 that made a brief appearance to the public earlier this year. Lastly, let's not forget that ACC will be released to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X quite soon. So 2022 should be a big year for this sim.

2) F1 2022 - Codemasters is surely hard at work getting things ready for the next installment of the F1 series. The past two seasons of Formula 1 have been significantly disrupted, and three tracks added to F1 2021 post-release showed Codies' efforts to try and keep up. 2022 will bring a substantial update to the car regulations in Formula 1, and hopefully we see those updated cars well represented in the official F1 game.

3) Automobilista 2 Updates - Reiza Studios has made a habit of releasing updates at least once per month since AMS2 was given to us, and that pattern should carry in next year. The third installment of the popular Racin' USA DLCs could drop in 2022, along with other new content and game improvements. The online rating system has been released already in beta form, but as the title gains more users that system will be refined and will hopefully make for some great racing in a title that shows massive potential for multiplayer competition.

4) Gran Turismo 7 - More details from the upcoming Gran Turismo title are being released each week, and it seems like it'll be a return to what made this series a favourite to many of us over the past decades. Whereas Gran Turismo Sport seems to have always been tailored to the online competitive racing realm, GT7 should include the car customization, game modes, and even some of the tracks that made GT famous.

5) Forza Motorsport 8 - 2021 was a massive year for the Forza franchise, with Horizon 5 posting incredible sales figures and garnering awards. Horizon's more serious circuit racing sister-franchise, Forza Motorsport, could seem its eighth installment released next year. Where it falls in terms of realism and an appeal to hardcore sim racing fans remains to be seen, but a likely scenario is that similar to the Gran Turismo series, Turn 10 will play to their strengths and release a title that falls in line with what millions of players have come to love about the franchise.

What are you expecting in the world of sim racing next year? Is there any new content on this list or otherwise that you'd really want to get your hands on in 2022? Let us know in the comments below.

The updates to ACC and AMS2 are on my radar. The content of the upcoming updates to ACC are still to be confirmed however, so let’s wait and see.

I was excited about the upcoming BTCC game but I remembered that it was done by the same studio that released NASCAR Ignition, so… my level of enthusiasm has diminished! I will wait for the reviews.

The same goes for F1 2022. It would be nice if the developpers spent less time on gimmicks like Breaking Point and more on real content like physics and tracks. They never even bothered updating Abu Dhabi and the F2 cars were released only last month. This title feels more and more like a cash grab, like the other EA Sports titles: let’s update last year‘s game and sell it as a brand new title. That’s the difference between a company like EA and a small studio like Reiza: one is a large company with shareholders and the other is a team of people who really care about simracing.

Shouldn't all the USA, the two extra premium tracks and old Spa content have been delivered already during 2021. So the 2020-2022 season pass will only be a late 2020-2021 pass with added free content to everyone who didn't pay and paid by those who did.

I dont mind career modes as long as they focus on the racing. My son drives me insane with the MLB, NBA, games. He spends 30 min to figure out what uniform he is going to wear and batting gloves AND creating a character. Whatever happened to playing the game. When did these games become dressup??
You never played GI Joe as a kid? Part of the fun was picking an outfit! :D

These games are all about the fantasy of pretending to be a star athlete, just like we pretend to be real race car drivers! ;)

I don’t remember Reiza promising that all 3 USA dlc pack would be released by the end of the year. Reiza is a small studio and the pace of development for AMS2 is already pretty quick, considering that.

The Racin´ USA Expansion Pack has arrived for Automobilista 2, bringing some of the most iconic North American race tracks and cars from some of the major series in the country.
This pack includes all 3 parts of the Expansion Pack with Part 1 immediately available, and Parts 2 and 3 will be released later in 2021, each featuring 3 unique venues and a collection of cars, including open wheelers and oval racing.

Spa-Francorchamps Pack featuring 1970, 1993, 2020 versions (individually this will sell for US$ 9.99 / €8.99) - RELEASED IN DECEMBER 2020.

Forza Motorsport 8
I'm excited about the new Forza Motorsport game, I'm interested in how everything will play, the cars, tracks, weather etc. I've only played Forza Motorsport 7 I have high hopes for that game.

  • Only what I am looking for is AMS 2 updates. 2022 should mature the game even more. Dots on the i, crosses on the t. Then 2023 - 2024 will bring more goodies! Hope so much :inlove:
  • Another wish is for a better Rallye game. Dirt Rally 2 and WRC 10 are just not that what I am looking for. Dirt Rally 1 was a masterpiece, but recent rally games seem to be more a copypaste and a quick cash grab. Hoping for a true RBR-successor someday that screams Rallye.

Has there been any weird or cool update in the front of AC CSP or SOL or anything of the sorts? last i heard they were experimenting with AI on multiplayer.
AI in multiplayer!? Well that would be a fantastic addition if it comes to fruition.

"What are you expecting in the world of sim racing next year?"

Reading this prediction, I hope something really exiting appears at some point as rehash of arcade titles is of no interest to me and a few updates to some title is good, but again, more of the same.

I feel blessed that I have AC that I can keep enjoying with the constant updates and new content from the modding community on top of the the ton of existing content, until something really new and exiting comes our way.

So 2022 looks good to me. :)
You re really out of time! AC+CSP+SOL is the most bugged, CTD,, unBOPed and unfinished sim atm. Also the forums are full of dumbs. But one thing is true AC+CSP+SOL is the best screenshot sim ever. Don t worry

The late release of the old Spa is indeed very strange... and a bit disappointing.

As for the 3rd USA DLC, either the Steam Store info was wrong or something slowed the development process. These things do not always go according to plans, so I'm not really concerned about this.

But, again, Reiza is a small studio and I cut them a lot of slack. I'm much more critical of a studio like Codemasters/EA that has more resources and focuses them on all the wrong things...

I think we will see major track improvements in AC. More people will learn the process of using a 3D camera on top of their cars to produce data for more realistic tracks. And perhaps if we are lucky, an AI mod will finally be realised.

For AMS2, with its new rating toy, I'm hoping 2022 brings 90 or so US East Coast time open lobby racers to join the 11 or 12 of us there in the evenings.

That'd be a MAJOR development.

More tracks/cars for ACC is always a good thing. With 1.8 I really started enjoying driving the GT3 cars, curious to try the new Porsche 911 Gt3 Cup 2021 car, the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo and the BMW M2 CS.

Don't you make your own skins, think about the sponsors you would like to have, and dream about having your own racing team? Because even if it's in a game, that's something that really makes a career mode alive. There's people that spends more time painting their cars or tuning them than driving, it's fun and totally fine, and it's still part of it.

Couldn't agree more Cote Dazur. And so... for me, the thing that would really make 2022 great would be if some progamming genius worked out how to really improve the audio in AC to unleash proper full surround audio with accurate sound positioning across the speakers !

And while they're at it, I'd also love to be able to add subtle 5.1 background ambient soundFX (i.e. 'atmos tracks') that are not linked to specific cameras, but rather have their volume set with a single fader for volume control in the in-game audio levels app.

Looking forward to Studio 397 making a few long winded blog posts about minor changes to the "competition system" while ignoring everything else wrong/missing mixed in with some meh DLC to be sold through their awful DLC shop system and maybe one game update next November that fixes a spelling mistake on the credits/exit screen. Going to be a great year for the sim.
