The Nürburgring is Coming to Forza Motorsport - Twice

With the launch date of October 10th fast approaching, Forza Motorsport has been busy with revealing content that is going to be available in the initial version of the game. Many fans have been missing the Nürburgring from the track list - now, the legendary Eifel circuit has been confirmed, though patience is needed to fully enjoy the track. Another venue has also been confirmed somewhat sneakily.

The Nürburgring is a venue that cannot really be missing from any track-based racing title that is not focused on the track roster of a single series, so players can breathe a sigh of relief: The Ring will be available at launch in Forza Motorsport - in its GP Circuit guise, that is.

Make no mistake, the circuit is far from a bad racing experience in its modern layout at just over 5 kilometers, as the reworked track that initially opened in 1984 is generally regarded as one of the better modern tracks in the world. But the actual crown jewel players are looking forward to in any racing simulation or game is the much longer, much older part of the venue.

Green Hell Delayed

At over 20 kilometers in length, the Nordschleife offers a unique challenge like no other circuit. Forza fans will have to wait for a little longer than October to tackle it, however: According to the official announcement, the Green Hell proper is going to join the circuit roster in Spring of 2024 as a free track.

What seems like a cruel teaser à la Assetto Corsa Competizione, where sim racers have wished for the Nordschleife to be added for ages and have been racing in the shadow of the legendary circuit, actually makes sense considering the graphical improvements Turn 10 and Microsoft are aiming for. Naturally, a track the size of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife would take longer to be polished up to spec compared to shorter circuits.

Speaking of shorter circuits: Another track has sneakily been announced, if you want to call it that - Mugello was added to the list of initial tracks on the official Forza website, including an added hint at it being announced on August 22nd. An actual announcement is nowhere to be found, however.

Return to Tuscany

Still, the Italian track located just north of Florence is a favorite of many and has been in numerous Forza Motorsport titles before, having made its return to Forza Motorsport 7 after being absent from Motorsport 5 and 6. The return to Tuscany should be a welcome addition to the game's track list.

With the confirmation of both the Nürburgring and Mugello, the list of tracks available at launch is extended to 17 - that leaves three more to reach the 20 locations that are going be available on October 10th, as the official website states. For an overview of all cars and tracks that have been confirmed thus far, check out our list of confirmed Forza Motorsport launch content.

You guys already heard that Turn 10 will lock multiplayer fps at probably 60 for cross-platform multiplayer? If this is true then mp just died for me. I think i have not played any racing game under 100fps in the last years.
That's actually a good thing, as it ensures equity between all players. There's been enough drama with people cheating by manipulating FPS voluntarily to get faster in simracing competitions. As much as I like having big framerates, a good stable 60 FPS is objectively plenty enough. I think there are bigger problems to expect from FM8 than that at launch.

Really? 60fps in reality is perfectly acceptable and I've not once ever wanted more or felt worse off for having less than a higher amount. Obviously that's your call, but also your loss.

For me its objectively not enough :D I can't even play slow paced third person adventure games at 60fps let alone a fast paced racing game. No man, i'm out then unfortunatelly.
Plus i think that just because a super super small minority is maybe doing some fps trickery (i dont even know how 'manipulating' fps can make you faster, you'd think they cheat with car settings or something) that all people then have to suffer.
And on PC you have for years people competing online on their 60fps 21" monitors and some on their 200fps triple screen setups and nobody every complained, at least not that i know of? Its what it is. Different people have different setups, just let them use them.

With that logic they should restrict control to the X-Box controller on PC...

There's different ways framerate can impact racing games. Some games are just coded in a way that just makes everything faster when you have more FPS - literally it's like time just being sped up, even if it's not necessarily noticeable with a naked eye.

The other thing is physics calculations being tied in some way to the framerate. In that case, more FPS can be better, but it's not always the case. At some point in F1 Esports, people were purposefully limiting their framerate to 60 FPS (every PC game allows you to set a max FPS), because it made the curbs much less dangerous.

It's not only a problem for racing games, framerate matters a lot in several other esports games as well, to the point players would run low graphic settings on the best hardware available to get like 400 - 500 FPS for competitive advantage.

@b)b owning an Xbox doesn't prevent people from running a wheel. Even then, the game might successfully balance out pad VS wheel in terms of pace. In fact, even if the game wasn't cross platform, it wouldn't be unreasonable to cap FPS for multiplayer - especially since building a machine capable of 120 or more can be quite expensive. Capping the framerate for multiplayer is far from being a new thing in the gaming industry.

I think I might just get this Forza as a lot of the people I race with like these types of casual motorsports titles...

Premium
Game passing this one. I was going to purchase but the multiplayer FPS limit and lack luster FOV settings aren't sitting well with me. The control, and gameplay is going to have to knock my socks off, if not it's getting the Horizon 5 treatment from me. Try it, then uninstall it.

I remember playing stuff like Indycar at 15fps and being glad off it. 25fps was amazing once I upgraded my PC. 30fps was the gold standard for years until 60 became more universal recently. Can't say I find anything unplayable these days as I'm still playing games in 1080p and 3060ti is easily good enough. Could do with some more power for VR though.

I grew up playing racing games on my ZX Spectrum in the mid-80s, and yeah very low fps there too. Hard Drivin' was about 3-5 fps at times, and any form of double-digits was a sight to behold! Younger people nowadays who know no better sound really daft when they talk about their gaming intolerances.

I still can't get my head around the mentality of prioritising fps over actually playing a game at all - these people try to justify why they're better off for not playing a game at all - how does that make any sense? Not being prepared to lose an unnecessarily high fps by so much that you're prepared to not play at all obviously means that you care more about how a game is presented more than that it is presented and enjoyed for what it is, in which case you ain't a gamer, and probably have a very poor / ungrateful outlook in & of life too.

I had a mate that was always negative and saw the worst in everything - I bought an ultrawide display and he called it a smaller-than-normal display with bits on the side. Back in GTR2 days (many moons ago) I wanted him to try my first wheel (which didn't have any FFB at all) and he did 2 corners and said he couldn't use it as he couldn't feel the FFB and then immediately went back to his PS2 controller (doh)! He isn't a mate anymore.

I sincerely feel deeply sorry that some people go throughout the only life they'll knowingly have and can't see the good for the "bad"- which in this case isn't bad at all.

Regarding Nordschleife being delayed in FM, better late than never I say.

Nords bring delayed is a bummer, it’s my go-to fo all things car related. I’ll still play it, I think, am cautiously optimistic but will wait for reviews. Nords not being in bumped it down a few notches on my drool-scale
(and I can understand it takes longer to get into the game, but it’s not like they didn’t know they had to, so… just start earlier…?)

Not a fan of the GP circuit, it's awkward imo. Would've preferred Hockenheim.

That said, glad Nord will come eventually (can play it on other titles if the itch occurs), also glad Mugello's there too.

Gamepassing this though, the "always online" nonsense is annoying as I get occasional dropouts and I'm not sold on the car/career progression either.
