rFactor 2 Completes 2023 BTCC Grid with New Content Drop

While the official BTCC game has been postponed until 2024, sim racers can now enjoy the full 2023 grid of the popular UK-based touring car series in rFactor 2: The Cupra Leon has been added to the sim, as well as up-to-date liveries for the rest of the field.

The Team HARD Cupra Leon was the only car still missing to form a full BTCC grid, and it is now available in the Steam Store. It completes a pack of eight cars, the others being the Hyundai i30 Fastback N, BMW 330e M Sport, Ford Focus ST, Toyota Corolla GR Sport, Honda Civic Type R, Vauxhall Astra and Infiniti Q50. They are avalaible as a bundle as well, which includes BTCC liveries from 2021 to 2023. Owners of any BTCC content will automatically receive the 2023 liveries for free, while the cars that were already available have received small facelifts each.

Independent Contender

While the Cupra may still be looking for an overall win as it is not racing in the Constructor class, it has seen considerable success in the hands of Independent entries, which are fielded by Team HARD: At the time of writing this article, both Bobby Thompson (140 points) and Daniel Lloyd (118) are chasing One Motorsport's Josh Cook (141) as the leader of the Independent standings ahead of BTCC's next event at Thruxton on June 3rd and 4th.

The circuit is also available in rFactor 2 and is featured in the BTCC Total Pack, which gives sim racers access to all BTCC cars as well as Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Croft and the aforementioned Thruxton. This means that only Snetterton is missing from the Steam Workshop to recreate the full 2023 BTCC season.

trusting my memory...as usual, not the best...thanks for the corrections.! If the Cater was paid, then the Mini was free, one of those I thought...

DLC pricing has always been a hot topic in sim racing, and it seems racing sims have never reached a better status than the one of simple videogames. Although racing sims are usually used during many years, as flight sims, only this ones are considered as serious software, and so their DLCs prices are much higher.

I always wonder why sim racers, who spend a lot of money on expensive equipment (PC, wheel and pedals, gear stick, simrig), become so cheap when it comes to the software part. No wonder developpers have limited ressources and stay for ever in developpment.

I have mitigated feelings about this pack as a MSG product, not about its quality and its price. If you're a BTCC fan, 30 euros is a good deal. And with the additional modded tracks you get the complete package.

I think the issue with simracing DLCs is that many expect to use the new content a few times and forget about it, and so these DLCs seem expensive to them. It may be the result of these multicategories sims, we got used to "consume" many racing cars from different and unrelated categories, for a few minutes, instead of focusing on a few cars and fully enjoy them during many hours.

Update: an example of how to satisfy community... ACC Added new McLaren 720S GT3 Evo 2023 for free, they often give freemium like that to trigger players moral debt ... they have no issue selling expensive DLC few months after that... they master the art of carrot and stick...RF2 rarely give a new car for free.
Reiza has also released some nice free content for AMS2. I like the new Formula Inter, for example. I had no idea that series even existed before it was included in AMS2.

I just read about the new McLaren in ACC. That's a very pleasant surprise, I don't think it was announced. Of if it was announced, I missed it.
