rFactor 2 Completes 2023 BTCC Grid with New Content Drop

While the official BTCC game has been postponed until 2024, sim racers can now enjoy the full 2023 grid of the popular UK-based touring car series in rFactor 2: The Cupra Leon has been added to the sim, as well as up-to-date liveries for the rest of the field.

The Team HARD Cupra Leon was the only car still missing to form a full BTCC grid, and it is now available in the Steam Store. It completes a pack of eight cars, the others being the Hyundai i30 Fastback N, BMW 330e M Sport, Ford Focus ST, Toyota Corolla GR Sport, Honda Civic Type R, Vauxhall Astra and Infiniti Q50. They are avalaible as a bundle as well, which includes BTCC liveries from 2021 to 2023. Owners of any BTCC content will automatically receive the 2023 liveries for free, while the cars that were already available have received small facelifts each.

Independent Contender

While the Cupra may still be looking for an overall win as it is not racing in the Constructor class, it has seen considerable success in the hands of Independent entries, which are fielded by Team HARD: At the time of writing this article, both Bobby Thompson (140 points) and Daniel Lloyd (118) are chasing One Motorsport's Josh Cook (141) as the leader of the Independent standings ahead of BTCC's next event at Thruxton on June 3rd and 4th.

The circuit is also available in rFactor 2 and is featured in the BTCC Total Pack, which gives sim racers access to all BTCC cars as well as Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Croft and the aforementioned Thruxton. This means that only Snetterton is missing from the Steam Workshop to recreate the full 2023 BTCC season.

Alongside the content drop, a hotfix has been rolled out, which is centered around vehicles - see below for the changes.

If they can introduce full packs at this price level they may have a shot at gaining some traction.

My ideas for future something entirely different.
Trans Am ( TA2 to start ) and Supercar packs. :coffee:
Some V8 tintop action old and new.
Only a handful of manufacturers and models between them.
Some fantastic tracks, Nashville, The Bend. :x3:
Trans Am license especially should be reasonable.

I haven't been on Rfactor 2 for a while partly because I'm busy..with music and partly because I was in the historic AM2 for a while, specialy Nurburgring 71 (love the 60`s vintage F1 cars there! but you are always comming back to the your first love :D you never cease to be amazed why this game is so good when it comes to real car driving with the feeling of the tires on the road!!!!!!

Someone really needs to make some classic content along the lines of GT Legends. With stuff like goodwood revival being so popular it would be epic to have some of them older cars brought up to todays standards with new laser scanned models etc. Thats one thing really missing from the sim market at the moment in my opinion.

A dedicated ACC or AMS style Aussie racing sim would be a hit, I'm sure of it. Laser scanned or at least high quality tracks with Supercars, Trans Am, Porsche Cup, S5000, Aussie Racing Cars, Formula Ford... wow, it'd be fun. So many "driver's cars" in Australian motorsport.

For rF2, an American Trans Am pack would make sense, since so many American tracks already have good mods available. But then there is that Storm Gang TA2 mod, which is janky but has potential. So... I dunno.

Premium
I checked the Steam store and the whole BTCC pack is priced at 43 canadian$ or so. This includes 8 cars and 4 tracks. I have complained many times about the prices for rFactor2 DLCs, but this is actually a fairly reasonable price, in my opinion. Will probably get it when I get back home this evening.
It's 29,99 Euros here, I agree that's a very good price for the content in the pack. More in that price range would certainly be welcome.

I don't know if Steam allows for this, but IMO they could have released the pack at the beginning of the BTCC content releases and then continuously added content to it with every quarterly release.

Surprised me iRacing has no TA ?
Only need Nashville for "mock-up" 2022-2023 seasons.
Yeah I was meaning new cars as well as a few DLC tracks every now and then.

Supercar Pack Camaro + Mustang + The Bend. Where do I sign up ? :coffee:

iRacing apparrently has the exclusive rights to V8 Supercars, therefor sadly we probably wont see them anywhere else and iR isnt really doing much with them aswell :(

What 5 tracks is it and only 3 of those are current era.
In how many years ? :coffee:

There is the Historic GT mod with 4 cars. I havent tasted it but it seems good.

Janky? I haven't tried the mod myself but, despite a few bugs, it seems a serious work as the team states it is the result of a collaboration with transm real life components and engines providers and real drivers. In the workshop it is said the bugs are going to be fixed (mirrors adjustment and faster AI). If you have noticed anything wrong with the mod, it would be a good idea to tell the team about it in the workshop, it seems quiet reactive. They announced a historic trans am mod. Isn't there already an old historic trans am mod for rfactor2? 8'm pretty sure I have such a mod on my HDD or in the workshop.

The trouble with 'most' historical mods for rF2, is that they start with the mid 1960's era Howston.(Lola) Tires made tremendous strides from 1966 to 1970 but most mods continue to float on rubber that feels very much like the original Howston

I've been supportive to rfactor2 for a few time, considering the huge updates made.in the last 2 or 3 years but I have mitigated feelings about this BTCC stuff.

75& of the official game (more with mods) for 60% of the full game price (considering the last Nascar game was initially priced at 50€), with MSG still promising the official 100% game in one year.

It feels like "be patient, pay for the half game immediatly in order to wait for the full game (at full price) next year (in an uncertain state)". Something is illogical there. Rfactor2 being receiving (at last) AI updates, this pack should be fun and solid in 2024, what will be the point of a dedicated BTCC game?

Why not keeping selling content for rfactor2 with the next seasons? MSG has brought to itself a very bad reputation, faster that an indie cash grab developper putting awful assets together to sale an early access on steam, but I must admit the way it was going for Nascar 21 was what we all have been expecting for years from a licence game : not a yearly release at full price, but a season pass. And rfactor2 being improved constantly, now that a major part of the BTCC content is there, why not keeping this route? Oh, consoles, right, that's why it needs a dedicated game. Well, maybe it is time to have console exclusivity and PC rfactor2 exclusivity.

Because selling this content at this price on rfactor2 expecting the same buyers paying full price next year for another, probably inferior, game with 3 more tracks is really annoying. That's what F1 games do, but is BTCC as popular as F1?

Anyway, that's good for rfactor2, it keeps the game alive and helps the support and the evolution of the game.
Valid point here. They are selling DLC with half price of a full game. It's a simple math that many users forget to do. The trap may be pushing people to buy the BTCC pack and earn a maximum of profit for a package that don't really worth so much. In parallel promising a new full BTCC game but never deliver it. Compared to the other like Kunos, Reiza, etc...This studio has no shame to declare a new game project then declare it cancelled. An another possible strategy is to sell this BTCC pack promising a BTCC game the declare the BTCC game cancelled then start a RF3 project to calm down the community. The sim racing community is pretty "manipulable''

some corrections, the Studio (Studio 397, the devs behind rF2) dont call the shots here.
They didnt promise a BTCC game, that was Motorsport Games that did it. Motorsport Games is the parent company, Studio 397 only does rFactor 2 and what it seems like the Le Mans Esports game that may or may not be coming this year. This time its not their fault.

As for the price comparison its easy, the full pack costs 29,99 €, thats actually pretty cheap, even, which you did, to the alternatives from Kunos etc. The latest DLC for ACC cost me 12,99 € for "only" 3 cars and one single track.

The price for the BTCC pack is quite reasonable, considering that it includes 12 items (8 cars and 4 tracks.) It's cheaper than the recent ACC and AMS2 DLC packs.

As for the link between the BTCC pack and the official BTCC game: there is none. I didn't buy the BTCC pack as some kind of stopgap solution before the unlikely release of a separate, official BTCC game. That game will most probably never happen and if it does, I am convinced it will be a simcade, at best, and won't be nearly as good as what we have with rFactor2.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, when I test out the TA2 mod again, I'll be sure to post about it on the Workshop if issues persist. Like you say, the mod 100% is a serious work, and the 3D models and much of the car behaviour seems great. :)

What I remember noticing before were (i) very strange tyre heating behaviour (heating up quickly to insanely high temperatures when sliding or wheelspinning, then cooling off verrry quickly) and (ii) poorly mixed engine sounds for some of the engines. Will have to verify if those issues are still present.

Anyway, enough about TA2 on a BTCC thread :roflmao:

It's also related to branding...some sim has reached a premium state some not.... sim like ACC or Iracing or AC ( which has an aftermarket with some expensive mods ) have reached a point where they gave a kind of satisfaction to their community. Even if their DLC are more expensive than the rest , people will buy them without moaning. SIm like AMS2 and RF2 had or still have so much weakness that somewhat lowered their value pver the years ( reputations, bugs, AI, physics, MSG, lack of feature, etc) . RF2 had a premium state but lost it over the year. Don't forget that RF2 DLC was extremely expensive few year ago but it was ok for the community. Those sim have somewhat lost the right to sell content with premium price. We should not forget that it's a market after all so it's following some market laws. It's like Porsche or Lamborghini vs Ford...Personally i'm far from being an ACC fan as mainly a single player racer i find the AI awful and the performance terrible but they managed to catch up elsewhere in term of features.

Update: an example of how to satisfy community... ACC Added new McLaren 720S GT3 Evo 2023 for free, they often give freemium like that to trigger players moral debt ... they have no issue selling expensive DLC few months after that... they master the art of carrot and stick...RF2 rarely give a new car for free.

S397 releases off the top of my head:
3 Mclaren F1 cars
A fleet, yes a FLEET of Tatuus
Nissan GT 500
Radical
Evo version of Bentley GT3
Evo of GT3 Audi
BMW M2
Vanwall LMDh
Norma LMP3
Ligier(I think) LMP2 & 3.
The jalopy car whose name I'm forgetting completely..ah...CATERHAM!
US F2000

Add to that mods...how many modded cars has ACC & iR released free of charge?

Tracks(not laser scanned but containing all the latest rF2 graphic updates): Portland, 2 versions of Zandvoort, & at least one more on the way. (ignoring the many core tracks that are part of the original title)

so yeah, no Freemiums at all..none, zilch, zero.
