Motorsport Games Releases More Interesting Details on NASCAR 21

Developer Motorsport Games has provided more details on next NASCAR title, which will include a new physics engine, a new graphics engine, and further car customization.

George Holmquist of Motorsport Games recently provided details to IGN about their forthcoming NASCAR 21 title. Not only will the title benefit from Motorsport Games’ acquisition of Studio 397 and share a physics engine with rFactor 2, but also receive a bump in aesthetics thanks to the use of the Unreal graphics engine.

The famed rFactor 2 physics engine will undoubtedly provide Motorsport Games with a capable tool for delivering a pure racing simulation if they choose. How far they take those capabilities remains to be seen, however. Recent NASCAR Heat titles have skewed strongly toward more casual gamers, so it might be unrealistic to expect the next title to have every aspect of the rFactor 2 physics implemented. Check out our review of NASCAR Heat 5 to learn more about the current state of the series.

On the graphics front, the utilization of the Unreal Engine elicits a sense of cautious optimism. KartKraft and Assetto Corsa Competizione are both Unreal Engine based racing titles, and both have excellent graphics as a result. However, particularly in the case of ACC, the Unreal Engine is notably resource heavy for PCs. Some users even report that Competizione is unplayable in VR due to the limited frame rates their system can produce. We can hope that Motorsport Games finds ways of optimizing the title, including support for AMD’s FidelityFX system that many game studios are beginning to implement.

With those new graphics capabilities comes another feature that fans of the series have been asking for: a paint booth. Car customization has been a leading request from users, and Motorsport Games will oblige their fans this time around by allowing a greater level of paint customization.

Where this new NASCAR title lands on the spectrum of racing games and racing simulations lands won’t be known until release, but Motorsport Games seems to be heading in a more positive direction with these announcements. The date of the public release of this title isn’t yet known, but more details are expected to be announced in the coming months.

What are your expectations for the next NASCAR title? Do you think rFactor’s physics engine will redeem the driving experience? Was the choice to use the Unreal Engine the right one? Let us know in the comments below.

It could be the greatest looking and physics that match and still wouldn't waste a nickel on it.
Still think rFactor2 will be a distant second memory all too soon.
Why would that be?
People were playing GPL 20 years after development on that game stopped.
And look at AC!
If the game has appeal no reason to stop playing it.

The ISI physics engine is know to be a hardware killer until today, specially in simulating the tyres physics, the Unreal for the other side, as anyone already noted in the ACC, is a video card killer... With both together I just can figure the minimum requirement being a I9 with a RTX 3080.

LOL
They can use much simple tires if they wish. I think engine supports rf1 tires out of the box.

They are shouting about the Nascar game but what has happened to the BTCC game? been completely silent on that front for months. All anyone knows is that too will use the rfactor2 engine

Ah, interesting, so we have confirmation parts of rFactor 2 can be taken out and used in other sims. I was wondering if that was possible, I sort of had the idea it was monolithic spaghetti code, but I'm happy to see that's it not completely old school.

I think the Grand Tour game used the rFactor2 engine to power the Lumberyard engineer graphics already.

I also read the BTCC game will use rFactor2 too. But will it just be a standalone mod or might they add something like F1 2021's storyline?

I honestly haven't played any other NASCAR game since Rumble. If there's gonna be an official game with rF2's physics in it I might actually buy it.

My point is that S397 focus would be focused on other projects than RF2. *IMO

The grand tour game was an arcade racing game using rf2 physics engine. So it's impossible to know which direction this title will take. Let's hope it will be a good improvement towards realism from the previous games. I like NH4 although it had flaws (the yellow flag cut is an immersion breaker). I never tried rf2 on ovals but the state of it's AI on road tracks utlimately was not as good as it was a long time ago (when it was good). I'm more worried about the AI of this future title than about the physics. If everything is done right, and they have all the tools for that, it will be an amazing title.
Edit : what about the dirt part? Will it be implemented? Interesting to know how rf2 will handle it.

ACC problem un VR was solved, take a look at this https://github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr
I bought Nascar Heat 4 and don't like it, great graphics, but poor physics and not real ffb, and all menús, hud and interface is just a port from console, and setup config is a joke, so well, if they'll made a game with Rf2 physics and Ue4 graphics, could be great game, i hope they'll include tracks like Sonoma or Elkhart lake cause ovals not my cup of tea

Could be great if Kunos buy licence and include inside ACC cause they have british GT with great tracks like Donington, Snetterton, Oulton, Brands Hatch and Silverstone

I'm weird, because I find NASCAR on TV to be meh but NASCAR as a sim to be great fun. I'll be following this keenly, at least until people start arguing whether or not it's a sim and I develop an eyebrow twitch.

You are right. The Lumberyard game engine (which incidentally has just been open sourced) was combined with specific modules from the rF2 engine (physics, AI, some gameplay elements) and ported to the current generation consoles. Because of the nature of that game (it was supposed to be very accessible, typically described by stating "much closer to Mario Kart than Gran Turismo") we developed a lot of specific driving aids and a few physics "features" that probably would not be able to exist easily in the real world, but all on top of our engine. And just to respond to its performance, we did indeed use the rFactor 1 tyre model combined with the rFactor 2 chassis, engine and everything else, and that was benchmarked to run just fine on consoles. As you might even remember (from the credits), Niels Heusinkveld was one of the people to work alongside our own physics team to help create those physics.

i cant write my message again cause i dont remember, but i remember what i told to @joemendel
most racist people are enti-racist people.
they bring skin color to everything, they tell every hate is related to skin: and i tell you people AROUND WHOLE WORLD hate each others and they looking for them signs to hit them feelings, if guy is ugly they tell him "ugly", if hes short they tell him "dwarf" etc if hes black they tell "n" if hes asian etc, if hes white tey tell "white trash" or "cracker" etc.
that hate is not related to skin, you people against so called racism make it racist actually LOL
and nascar got nothing to do with it its just cars racing on ovals xD if around 30 000 spectators are 2 racist and 100 rapist you would not tell its rapists organization but you tell its racism organization why? CAUSE OF FACT it doing nothing to prevent so called racism???
MAYBE point is they see no racism CAUSE theyr NOT RACISTS?? xD i mean they know people are just hating etc and they wont make nothing about it cause they simply cant. and they not fight against racism as they know racism is not actual problem but hate.
imagine world without diferent skin colors what would be next problem for social justice warriors like you? fat women? and today you would tell you
"dont like nascar cause they do nothing to fight agains body shaming"
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAA
