June Dev Update Confirms Le Mans & Rallycross for Automobilista 2

There was no doubt that the update to v1.5 would be a substantial one for Automobilista 2, with its revised physics being fully implemented after having partially been added for v1.4.8. The June Dev Update now shows the full extent - and it confirms both Le Mans and dirt racing for the sim. More is to come, however - so buckle up as there is a lot of news to unpack!

The iconic endurance circuit at La Sarthe had been all but confirmed by Reiza's lead developer Renato Simioni after the April Dev Update, which has now been made official: Le Mans will join AMS2 later this year, including historical versions from the 1970s and 1990s as well as endurance features and more content appropriate for the circuit.

Reiza is working on both the modern and vintage fronts in this regard: Not only is AMS2 set to see the addition of select 2023 prototypes and more modern GT3s, but also classic GT and prototype vehicles from the early 1970s up to the mid-2000s, adding to the Group C and GT1 classes already in the sim.

AMS2 Goes Off-Road

The final part of the 2020-2022 (extended to 2023) Season Pass is inbound with the v1.5 update as well in the Adrenaline Pack. No official answer had been given thus far about what it would contain - until now: Simioni announced "a variety of off-road and extreme cars & tracks" in the dev update, specifically naming Rallycross and Rallycross Karts as upcoming additions.

Rallycross is going to see the introduction of the Mitsubishi Lancer X and Volkswagen Polo RX, and at least two more yet to be named models that will join them on the grid. Meanwhile, Rallycross Karts are small buggies that "are bound to shoot up right to the top of the charts in terms of fun factor", according to Simioni.

Multiple circuits like the Nürburgring or Spa-Francorchamps are set to have Rallycross layouts added to them, which players will be able to use as part of the Adrenaline Pack even if they do not own the base versions of the circuits, in case they are DLC. Some dirt tracks already present in AMS1 are revamped and also return, such as Ascurra, Foz and Tykki.

The Madness Engine on which AMS2 is based is no stranger to dirt racing: Project CARS 2 featured Rallycross content in 2017 already, and Simioni is excited about "built-in world-class support for it, as LiveTrack handles deformable terrain and blending transitions from dirt, gravel to tarmac and back beautifully, along with an in-depth rule set that includes the use of joker laps."

That is not all, however: As the Dev Update was marked as "Pt. 1", more info on both the Adrenaline Pack and v1.5 as a whole are to be expected soon. The update is also going to feature free content in the shape of the Sigma P1 G5 and the Metalmoro AJR, both of which compete in the P1 class.

If I understand this correctly, If you are part of the 2019 AMS2 Early Backing Campaign, you carry on with all DLC included. I assumed this would end with the season pass ending.

You get everything forever. Same if you backed the campaign in 2015 in a certain tier, or if you join now through their beta access offer.

Only if you bought the SP only. If you did early backing (i.e. committed to the whole thing before early access) you still can keep going.

Nice, I still haven’t even started it properly yet, think I played around for a couple of hours on release and threw down for everything to support them, got to keep sim racing alive!

Too many sims and not enough time, haven’t even properly got into AMS1 yet either, I don’t want to just drop it but the controller profiles having a limited number of USB slots and then when I edit the ini to hide one it just resets all the controls which is infuriating!

Anyway once I’m through Pcars 1, 2 and 3 I’ll move on to AMS2, sacrilege I know but I enjoy them as much as AC, rF2, ACC etc. They all have strengths and weaknesses in their simulation of racing as a whole but madness engine is great IMO.

You live your life as you want, but man, if you want to experience much better sensations of driving realism, switch from PC2 to AMS2, there is no comparison, it's day and night.
And the nonsense about AI, physics, etc... forget all those comments from stupid people who read a review of AMS2 without ever testing it for real.
PC2 was beautiful And very good in Vr, AMS2 is a great simulation AND it is beautiful AND is beautiful in Vr, great sim yes, like Iracing, ACC, AC, RFactor2, AMS1, me I like them all because they all have very great qualities and all also a number of faults.
Thank you Reiza for this awesome new addition!
If I could make one wish for the future... the 1957 Testa Rossa!

Like you I enjoy them all, I just don’t have the time to play them! I don’t take notice of anyone crapping on any of them because it’s not their favourite game (I mean sim ;):p), I even have PCars 3, oh the shame!

For me they all handle similarly enough, sure some are more realistic than others but I take them from what they are, the main issue which most of them have being A.I balancing for a solo player like me since A.I don’t use player physics.

I also have the full suit of rig enhancements (motion, buttkickers etc.) which especially in the case of PCars adds a lot that you don’t get through any of it’s FFB options which I like but I know is an issue for some. I think my favourite is probably rF2 though the FFB in that is just so raw, just a massive shame about the terrible business model and terrible workshop/store system where the packs just make you rebuy the same content at full price.

Can we please just get a little less grip overall though? The handling is really getting close.
But you”ll have to do a detailed definition of where you want less grip :).

Which cars, ones with areo, no aero, corner entry, corner exit, low speed, high speed, frontend, back etc etc. With the variety in AMS 2 thats a challenge.

The other thing is when is grip a setup issue rather than a physics related. I’m quite often thinking I’d like more grip at the front on turn in/ mid corner but most of the time it’s me overdriviving the car rather than the game

Ideally they will redo the default setups for all the cars after 1.5 to give a balanced baseline which will then make it easier to judge the grip levels. The grips levels need to suit the car but shouldn’t allow the physics to be abused where a loose setup is faster when it shouldn’t be. Thats a tough thing to balance especially when some cars in real life will be quicker with a slightly looser setup.

The lord of the sims - one sim to rule them all! It's getting a bit that way with RallyX and Le Mans. It's all good!

Needs Bathurst too [UPDATE: I'm an idiot!], that seems to be top of a poll of tracks people would most like to see in the game (ahead of Le Mans) and it was in Project CARS series, so I expect something might be worked out.

It'll be interesting to see what the Straight4 games simulator brings to the table down the line mind you. All the same content again, just a bit more whizzy looking?

Are you suggesting Bathurst for AMS2?

if so, I have huge news for....

But Bathurts is ALREADY in AMS2... In addition to the normal version there is the version of the circuit in 1983... Well, if you are interested you can take a look at this video.

In 2 words : amazing news.
I hope some dirt oval racing will come later. AI adjustments under rainy conditions should be significant improvements, this is were these Madness engine sims have been struggling since the beginning.

I wonder what is keeping modders to convert tracks from all former Madness engine games. We would already have Le Mans. There must be something complicated but some tracks from Pcars 2 have already been converted.

Existing Reiza 51 backers get access to AMS2 Paddock Club for free. Glad I bought into it early :)
How can you get something "free" when you first have to pay for it ? You said you were a Backer, so you already paid extra money. People should stop using the term "free" so losely and instead say "comes in with the first purchase".

Fantastic news. To drive all these classics in Le Mans will be awesome. My biggest wish for prototypes is a batch of the 2014-2016 LMP1 thrill.

The tracks in PC2 are flat, without bumps, it was one of the big concerns of PC2 apart from its physics, Reiza reviews or completely redoes the tracks and it's a job.
