Ian Bell | Straight4Games and Hyper-Realistic Screenshots

Ian Bell is at it again. As has been announced, the Englishman's new studio will be developing racing games. And boy, if the tweets are no lies, whatever they have in their pipeline is some hyper-realistic stuff!

Straight4Games

The new studio will not be called, as previously announced, MildlyAnnoyedStudios, but rather Straight4Games. This was announced in a Tweet that Ian Bell put out on his private Twitter account.

The programmer from Hertfordshire revealed the following logo to be used for the game development studio.

The New Game Engine

The studio's first job seemed to be working with a new engine. According to a previous tweet from Ian Bell, the used engine might be Unreal Engine 5, as he said:

Imagine RF2 physics, tweaked in an Unreal 5 world... I do. Dreams can come true.
- Ian Bell, Mar 31, 2022

The known detail is that this new engine, according to recent Tweets is capable of hyper-realistic renderings of car interiors, as seen in the following screenshots.

According to answers in the original Tweet by Ian Bell, these screenshots are "100% in-engine".

The first project of Straight4Games is said to be GTR Revival, a reimagining of the classic GTR games developed by SimBin and Ian Bell's own Blimey! Games.

It's only a game. All of our beloved Sims are just games.

Take a chill pill guys. Enjoy what we have and wait and see what the future brings. If Mr Bell creates something worthwhile... great. Otherwise we still have plenty to enjoy and keep us busy in our wonderful hobby.

At present I still drive ( badly I might add !!) AC, AMS2, Rfactor2 and sometimes PCars2. I have great fun racing here at RD with some great guys and enjoy it immensely. Even when I lose, which is my particular speciality.

I race Grand Prix Legends & GT Legends in a couple of Leagues and still wish there was enough time to do more.

I even for pure selfish fun as I like the older cars still fire up GTR2, P&G and Historics, etc whenever I can. I could easily list many more great games we have at our disposal.

Take care and keep racin'

Hi Peeps. Thanks for the coverage RD. Wow, what a reaction. I mean, I have shipped 17 games and I would say GTR2 and Project CARS2 are up there with any great sim experience. Not everyone's cup of tea, but then nothing is. Peace x

Hey Rob. Same with us. We still fire up GTR2 and think it deserves an up to date game inspired by it. Especially so now we have most of the original team in place.

Fully agree! They do it for movies then why not sims

I assure you it's Unreal 5 with some of our plugin code running full raytracing.
EDIT: Would've liked the original engine updated and built upon as even by today's standards it's very good but yeah, having a GTR2 remaster is great - what year are we potentially looking at? 2024?

Also, are there plans to add Triple Screen and LAN support? I take it there will be VR...

Some smaller note,

I can catch the Madness Engine sunset lighting even if it's miles away, this looks to me like an enhanced version of the Madness engine lighting system with ray tracing added. But again, maybe this isn't anything as chat stated above I am not 100% sure.
LOL Madness Engine does not belong to him anymore so he cannot do anything with it. On the other side he already mentioned he planning on using RF2 engine with UE5, but the fact that you use ME as a way to push negative opinions even where there is not even the smell of it speaks volume on the prejudice.

Using the GTR name and success to advertise and hype a game that probably won't have nothing in common with that title... the good old marketing strategy of promising something that you know you won't honor.

GTR2 has a very specific content. I don't remember road cars, supercars, Nascar and rally cross. Make a remaster or don't use that name.
By the way, you had already most of the original team in place also inside the SMS and during the development of pCars. You said this many times during these years. So, what went wrong?
You are probably making a game like pCars, with the console market in mind. But you'll put in game some of the FIA GT cars seen in GTR2. You are already planning some screenshots and maybe a cover art with that blue Maserati or red Viper, don't you? You sneaky little rascal. Just say it. There's nothing wrong in that. ;)
I ask you again, how is that AC2 coming along? ;) Or maybe you can start telling me what both ACC and AC have in common. Not even the FFB is the same (to Gamermuscle's immense sadness). Wasnt that also hyping a game using your previous work?...

That's a pretty render of a car's interior and nothing more.
Also, why can't this DUDE stop slapping his name on everything he's involved? Oh right, he's looking for "investors".
Well, If nobody told me that he's behind this, i'd be more open minded about it. Now that i know he's behind this, i'll steer away from it unless by some miracle it turns out to be this perfect hyperrealistic ultrasim that he's been promising us for years.

Dynamic weather and Time of Day, coded!

Yer gonna have to work hard to get most sim racers to trust you again in ANY capacity, many got burned in the past, and you only have yourself to blame for that, no-one will touch that game with a bargepole until MANY independent, trusted reviewers have put the game through it's paces, I hope you're not banking on early adopters paying upfront, for I fear you will be severely disappointed.
