Have Your Say: Which Racing Sim Has the Best Porsche Cup Car?

Best Porsche Cup in Sim Racing 01.jpg
In our latest Have Your Say article, we want to know which racing title offers the best Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.

There isn't much content that appears across most of the major racing sims we feature here at RaceDepartment, but the previous generation of Porsche Cup car fits that criteria.

Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista (as the Boxer Cup), Automobilista 2, iRacing, RaceRoom and rFactor 2 all offer versions of the car. There are variants of the car in the 991 generation, but the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car remained largely unchanged from 2013 to 2020.

So we want to hear which sim you believe offers the best Porsche Cup car. It's not a measuring stick for the overall quality of a title, but it is an interesting thought experiment to see how our favourite titles stack up when recreating the same car.

The Porsche Cup car has remained a popular choice in sim racing thanks not only to its presence across many titles, but also its appeal as a more challenging alternative to GT3 racing.

So, who did it best? Which of the titles noted above offers the best experience with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car? Use looks, sounds, driving physics, online experience, or any combination of the above as your criteria for grading the cars. Let us know your favourite Porsche Cup car in the comments below.

The real life 991 is, reportedly, a LOT easier to drive than the iRacing's 991.
It is true that the real life 992 is easier to drive than the 991, but the differential between the two models is far smaller than what exists in iR.
The iRacing 991 Cup is now different from the initial version. With the latest updates it received last year, it became a more forgiving car.

Since then it is the 911 Cup that I like the most, the races in iRacing with the AI are very fun in this car.

Having driven a couple of 911s and a 911 RSR in real life, I can say that I find the ACC's Cup car very good. AC is also very accurate, and maybe more fun that ACC, but it isn't just as accurate. Specially the front feel. IRL, the 911 has a very specific light but direct front sensation in the wheel and ACC just nails it.

GTR2. It has the 2003 and 2004 variants of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, and they feel amazing to drive at the spa 24h, dodging faster traffic. Especially with the SHO Competition FFB.
The only 24 hours race I ever did was Porsche Cup at Hockenheim in GTR2, switching turns with the AI driver. Amazing experience. Didn't win it, but was top ten (8th) two laps down. The AI driver was slower than me, but overall AI was also slow (90% I think).

My parents were away for the weekend, I had the house by myself.

Now married and with 3 children, I can´t see myself doing something like this too soon. Hope my kids likes simracing and one day we do some endurance switching turns by ourselves.

I drove a 991.2 GT3 Cup in the Nürburgring Endurance Series for a year and I felt the R3E version to be the closest from the overall feeling. But I also like the AC and ACC versions. It's just a fun car to drive in all scenarios :D

If RaceRoom had rain/weather and day/night transition, it would be such a good game. Especially on the Nordschleife.

But great insights man! :)

I love the Porsche Cup in Raceroom, ACC and AMS 1 (the Boxer) almost equally, but if I really have to choose a favourite I would go with the Boxer Cup in AMS 1.

Never drove a real one so I have no idea which is more realistic. They feel relatively similar between the sims I mentioned, but the AMS 1 version feels a bit more lively than the others. Or maybe it's just the awesome FFB on AMS 1 skewing my opinion..

Last time I drove the Porche Cup on AMS 2 it felt too grippy on throttle for my taste and I didn't like it, but this was months ago so I'm sure it must be better now. Some of the previous answers are making me curious about giving it another try.

I know that the Cup car on iRacing is not the 991 anymore, but the 992, which is - reportedly - finally resembling the real thing, unlike the previous one.

Definately ACC. The 911 Cup in ASM2 feel like used cars with worn out dampers that lost rebound.

Out of any 911 Cup car out there, I'd have to vote for the Flat6 Series mod in rF2, basically a 997 IIRC. Simply incredible to drive.

This is stretching the definition of Cup car pretty damn thin, but the 911 GT America mod for AC is pretty great too IMO
I agree that the Flat6 mod in RF2 is brilliant and also the 911 GT America in AC.

ACC followed closely by RF2 and RaceRoom
Personally, if we could have better skins for the ACC version in offline racing I would probably use it more than any other car. The colour mixture which is randomly selected by ACC look odd to me.
Best wishes
Bob
