Have Your Say: Which Racing Sim Has the Best Porsche Cup Car?

Best Porsche Cup in Sim Racing 01.jpg
In our latest Have Your Say article, we want to know which racing title offers the best Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.

There isn't much content that appears across most of the major racing sims we feature here at RaceDepartment, but the previous generation of Porsche Cup car fits that criteria.

Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista (as the Boxer Cup), Automobilista 2, iRacing, RaceRoom and rFactor 2 all offer versions of the car. There are variants of the car in the 991 generation, but the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car remained largely unchanged from 2013 to 2020.

So we want to hear which sim you believe offers the best Porsche Cup car. It's not a measuring stick for the overall quality of a title, but it is an interesting thought experiment to see how our favourite titles stack up when recreating the same car.

The Porsche Cup car has remained a popular choice in sim racing thanks not only to its presence across many titles, but also its appeal as a more challenging alternative to GT3 racing.

So, who did it best? Which of the titles noted above offers the best experience with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car? Use looks, sounds, driving physics, online experience, or any combination of the above as your criteria for grading the cars. Let us know your favourite Porsche Cup car in the comments below.

I'm no expert but I've driven this car specifically in ALL of the sims as it's one of my favorite cars in simracing if not THE favorite.

AC: Car feels stable and nice to drive.
ACC: Car feels too stable and easy.
AMS2: Car feels very playful (just like all cars in ams2) as if it has too little grip but isn't hard.
PC2: Car feels also playful obviously and isn't hard.
RRE: I have tested it only (test drive option while I don't own the car). It felt natural and close to its counterpart from AC. Stable and easy.
rF2: Car is basically undrivable. Could barely complete a single clean lap. It's way too hard and I don't feel like a modern race car would be that hard to drive and that twitchy/sensitive/crazy.
iRacing: Car feels stable but not so easy., and requires careful application of throttle but more importantly brakes.

I LOVE this car wherever I drive it, but my least favorite would be rF2 as it's too frustrating, and my favorite would be probably iRacing as it feels that it strikes a perfect balance between drivability and challenge.

EDIT: What's fascinating is how different the perception is and the opinions are. Some find for example the version in AMS2 to be very grippy while all cars for me in AMS2 feel like drift cars... Really interesting. I wish I have driven the real thing to be able to really judge.
What do u mean with „playful“ regarding AMS2 ? All sims are games, and so playful sounds good. Compare it with pc2 is dumb.

By playful I mean the car is so alive and kinda feels borderline drift car in some way. Seeing how the GT3 cars behave in all of the remaining sims, and how they behave in real life, I don't think they are as "playful" as they are in AMS2.
