Forza Motorsport Update 1.0 Changes Car Progression

Forza Motorsport Update 1.0.jpg
The first big Forza Motorsport update is here, and it addresses a significant concern of many players. Car progression should be less of a grind in Forza Motorsport Update 1.0.

With its Builders Cup mode, Forza Motorsport introduced a new way of upgrading cars. Instead of earning credits to spend on parts, players gain car points tied to any vehicle they are driving. These can then be used for upgrades and reset if their build is not satisfactory. With this similarity to an RPG skill tree, Turn 10 and Microsoft have coined the term “CarPG” for the game.

However, while it is a fresh approach, players raised concerns with its initial version. Essentially, they found that it took too long to unlock car parts for their vehicles. This led to players figuring out how to farm credits by enabling all assists and basically have a car run laps by itself.

Forza Motorsport Update 1.0: Faster Unlocks

This concern has been addressed in Forza Motorsport Update 1.0. Tedious grinding should be a thing of the past, as progression has been sped up significantly. The update’s changelog claims that “most car parts should now be unlocked within a single Builders Cup series.

Whether or not this is a bit too fast now remains to be seen. However, the changed mechanic should give players more of an incentive to actually race their cars. At the same time, they should have the opportunity to use more of the 500+ cars in the game – sounds like a good trade-off to us.

Forza Motorsport Update 1.0: Changelog

While the changes to the car progression are the focal point of Forza Motorsport Update 1.0, there is more to it. Stability fixes, particularly for the Xbox versions, are also part of it. A few multiplayer adjustments have been made, too – and much more. Check below to see the full changelog!

I'd say the parts progress is an interesting take.
Feeling the need to get to know your car, use it and earn it. Rather than the "collecting yet another car i won't drive" in Forza Horizon.
Now they changed the speed at which you access everything. I used to enjoy "having to" race the chosen car in external races in order to gain xp and those part.
I felt like doing side quest in order to get better level. Although those side quests aren't needed to complete the main one.

On the other hand... there's much needed work in other areas.
  • No horn, no headlights, no runing mileage on the cars you use. Small details so easy to add, yet missing on a "sim".
  • No qualification ? (!!)
  • No practice when you create your own solo race (no qualification either..)
  • No way to create your own championship ?
  • Dumb online nicknames for AI opponents ? What is this... where are my nemesis from Flat Out that i use to remember them by actual names ? Jack Benton and so on
  • You can't rotate the car when you pick yours rims. Let alone the terrible lighting of the rim materials
  • The close up materials really aren't up to standart. Race in bonnet view, there's no speckle and little bump like on a real car paint ?
there's probably more i forgot...

i haven't tried the online at all.
The rival is a nice feature, although it would be nice to populate those laptimes when you practice in solo. That would be a way to see what my friends did on those solo championship ? So i would feel LESS ALONE

The grind or unlocking parts is for me not the big deal.... ive just drive the cars and i do not really care about it.

The rim selection menu is a mess.
You cant see the whole car...zoom in/zoom out, rotate is not possible so you even cant properly see if the rim is concave or flat... when i remember FH5 correct it even do a better job in that case.
Other mentioned things are not really well done.

The materials look often quite strange...especially plastic surfaces have imo bad visual effects.
But this is general Forza problem....thought they sorted it out but seems not to be the case.

Multiplayer can be funny but you need to know that most of the races are wreckfests and divebomb massacres where you will be shot out into space.... most of the time you see the controller specialists in front of you and you exactly know what will happen in next 1-2 corners when you pass him...
Yes, ive had also few more or less clean races but this is rather rare.
This are my experiences online.

I prefer also to drive alone or against rivals.
There are no dumb drivers which disturb me (beside the AI).

Agree with all those little problems above.

My biggest "issue" is just the lack of racing. Yes lack of racing. It´s like every time the same procedure - 1st round funny because door to door racing against AI, sometimes relativly fun.
But after that - the cars i overtook have no chance to counter me, they are to slow to do so, but the cars which already are 2-3s. ahead are no more possible to reach. So the last 3 or 4 rounds i spend boored just finishing my race.

Then i switch to Assetto Corsa or Automobilista2 and feel right away great racing the whole race long. Even the visuals are mostly not really ahead of my fully modded AC.
So the car content and a career mode are the only reasons to continue.

All in all a game which i`ve given 90€ for which was many years in making, is a little disappointment.

And i never expected it to be a real sim, really no, but it fails partly also as a simcade or arcade racer.

I played it with a wheel last night and it's no sim. Not saying that it can't still be fun but I gave it a couple of hours and it's not really grabbing me.

The price is imo way to high but in this case i am quite lucky.... Month ago ive bought an graphics card and there was an 3 month gamepass included so lets say it was free for me.
But i can understand people which have bought it at full price.

the name motorsport in the game sounds like a mockery. These race tracks are not enough, but I don't need a fancy one.

Yes, and no VR. I do like it, but I am currently finding it a struggle to drive compared to AC/AMS2 which just feel more natural to me. I think I'll wait a few more patches then have another go. I'm chipping away at the career mode but not much else.

From a tuning perspective, it's a tad annoying grinding to get parts for every car, so I understand the dislike.
I would be ok with level 50 unlocking all parts for that manufacturer.

That being said, it has forced me to spend more time with cars I normally wouldn't have to figure out there characteristic and what needs improving.

I did a quick test last night and the progression system is definitely faster, as I was leveling up nearly every lap, where as pre update every 2-3 laps.

That is a very accurate assessment, looks like they just adjust AI algorithm on the fly regardless of chosen difficulty to give you some space, working from the bottom of the grid up with lower level AI is at least mildly entertaining.

There's nothing wrong with the game, just people moaning as usual.

Its never going to be a true sim racer and its not going to be an arcade racer, its something in the middle. People complained when they got cars thrown at them in Horizon, now the opposite is true people are whinging again.

The ai is fine - maybe a bit simplistic initially in the career, but take it on in free play on max and you've got yourself a bit of a battle. Again, if you are looking for ACC or AM2 levels of competition just go play those.

It is what it is, a decent couch racer on Xbox. I play that and ACC on Xbox along with Project Cars2 and play AC and AM2 on PC, jobs a good 'un.

It's funny because people whinged about Project Cars 2 when it came out and practically killed the franchise. We are fortunate Reiza came along and made something of its engine.

Complaining is fine when justified, but I think the gaming community has just become too cynical over the years and now everything is examined in microscopic detail. There's no fun to be had in that.

Pointing to game's faults that can and should be addressed is not moaning or whining.
FM 2023 definitely has potential to become more than just casual couch racer. For once FFB feels really good.

I agree with most of the issues here. However, I personally have experienced very good online racing. Not sure what world I'm living in but I haven't been punted in the last 5 or so races Ive done.

The honeymoon phase isn't over yet and the mindless consumers who bought a worse FM7 are already finding out what a bad game it is. As expected.
As for the "good online experience" that some of you are saying....give it some time. Online racing is about the players, not the game itself. It will eventually become like FM7. A bumpercar ramfest.

I have just given this title another run after my initial melt down.

I have had some fun races online, but the ffb feels very dull (workable but dull), the physics seem very arcade like (not that thats a bad thing), the graphics though are terrible! i am utterly shocked at how bad they are actually. I am guessing Microsoft's insistence on having RT running on consoles has seriously hampered visual design fidelity. On a side note, you cant tell whether its on or off visually when racing anyway, its a complete waste of resource and has seriously held it back.

I ran a Ferrari F1 and it was frankly one of the worst experiences i think i've had in many many years of computer racing, it felt so so bad, plus the drivers arms animations are LOL.

I booted up the same track (Silverstone) and similar car in AC and AMS2 and thought wtf are T10 actually smoking.
