Who is your RaceDepartment Driver of the Day?

After a thrilling race, voting has opened for the RaceDepartment Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 'Driver of the Day'.

After a close start to the season, expectations were high as the teams headed to Imola, and the classic circuit certainly delivered excitement.

As expected, the start of the race was affected by wet weather, with low grip making the opening laps challenging for the drivers. As the cars got up to speed and conditions improved, we saw some more adventurous driving, which delivered great overtakes, produced numerous collisions and even a red flag. Despite changing conditions and an interrupted race, today's winner took a very dominant victory.

There are however, plenty of good candidates for Driver of the Day up and down the grid, with some very impressive performances in the midfield. Some chaos for the regular front runners also allowed for some drivers to finish further up the order than expected. Today's race reaffirmed that this year should provide some fantastic battles in both the drivers and constructors championships, in what has undoubtedly been one of the closest starts to a year in recent memory.

Make sure to cast your vote for your winner, and reflect on a thrilling few weeks for F1 in 2021.

I like how Sainz congratulate Lando. It is only a split second moment caught on camera, but it shows how close their friendship is and how Sainz is genuinely happy for his buddy.

My point is that I see a lot of people suggesting that people like Lewis Hamilton are just very lucky. I would suggest that you are more likely to find luck if you have some underlying talent/work ethic that helps put you in that situation in the first place. Like managing to get out of the gravel when others would have failed.

Suggesting?
he should not have scored any points yesterday. Wing repair 45 seconds...but the savety save him

He knew he was lucky. The smile he had in the post-race interview said it all. He was very skillful as well, but all the skill in the world would not have helped him without the red flag.

Last race 29x tracklimits with no punischment. He is a great driver no doubt he must be a happy man always

I think as long as it was rainy and wet on the track, it showed perfectly the current skills of the drivers:

Top drivers currently: Norris, Verstappen, LeClerc - hard to say who is the best due to the different cars, would be interesting to see two of them in the same team, probably won't happen though

Followed by: Hamilton, Russel and Gasly (who is a very quick driver but doesn't have the right mentality for higher honours)
Your Conclusions do not appear to be supported by the results, the individual performances, and the speed of their respective cars. On what basis do you place Hamilton that low?

That
I can't argue with that he brought the car home. What people define as him being lucky though is finishing second after allmost crashing the car into the wall like an impatient rookie. Wouldn't it be for Russel and Bottas colliding he would have finished somewhere around place 9 or 10 if even that high, without a free repair, a gifted lap and getting rid of lapped traffic, something that he would have had to deal with if there wouldn't have been a red flag.

This my friend, has nothing to do with people being foolish and Hamilton being a 7 time WDC who get's the car out of the gravel. All of this was out of his hands besides finishing the race and I have no idea how people would vote him for the driver of the day. There are certainly other drivers who had to work more in comparison, Verstappen included. There is a rule in Nascar that is called The lucky dog for a reason. As the name indicates, it has nothing to do with skill.
That's all fine, it's just difficult to believe that a driver like Hamilton is lucky when he never makes race defining mistakes, in fact it's quiet rare. Lewis isn't lucky, it's more that other drivers are stupid (Russell).

Why is it not supported by the results? It is exactly that. "That low"? I wouldn't call 4th "that low". But he just doesn't seem on the same level as these other 3. These 3 have proven again and again against very good teammates that they are just top of the top.
Hamilton on the other hand is very hard to judge - for a long time he always had by far the best car and at the same time shitty teammates - I'd say really noone can say how good he really is currently. Would be interesting to put him up against a really good driver

Like Verstappen at Bahrain for example?

The FIA allowed extending the track limits, other drivers confirmed it. Red Bull complained, it was changed mid race, Hamilton didn't go wide anymore. Overtaking outside of the track isn't allowed anywhere

halfway through the race when he had already taken his advantage what a joke

I hope this year. Max in a good car is a challenge for him. Not the easy 7 years walk over. Yesterday LH makes a fault under pressure for sure.

Problem is that the Merc is so much better reg. race pace, especially overtaking. If a Bull falls behind due to some issues (mechanical, driver error, pitstop error, penalties) he will have a very hard time to get to the top places again, while for the Mercedes it's a breeze and it will most likely always get up to at least 3rd place (not counting in Bottas who really is not a good driver). It will take a lot of luck for Max to put up a fight against Lewis in the Merc, also this season.

Norris is a nice character with a lot of humor you can not dislike him if he continues to develop himself and Mc Laren is on they way back he will become a wdc
