Four all-new Fanatec Sparco wheels are the latest pieces of sim racing hardware in the German manufacturer’s lineup. The rims each suit a different style of car.

One of Fanatec’s strenghts is undoubtedly its variety of wheel rims. Whether you prefer modern F1 and GT cars, vintage touring cars, rally, or NASCAR, there is a rim for you. The latest additions even expand this lineup by a kart wheel rim. In cooperation with Sparco, Fanatec unveiled four new models in total.

Unlike the Podium Steering Wheel Monte Carlo Rally, which uses an actual Sparco R383 found in the Ford Puma Rally1 WRC cars, the new rims are replicas of the Italian manufacturer’s wheels. They are also part of the ClubSport line of products instead of the top-of-the-line Podium category.

Fanatec Sparco Rims: Quartet To Choose From

Aimed at fans of older single-seater cars, the ClubSport Wheel Rim Sparco Formula comes with a 270 mm diameter and a cut out top. This style of rim was frequently used in the early to mid-1990s in Formula One, for example. Formula cars in lower categories raced with this style even longer, before built-in wheel displays became the norm.

Meanwhile, the new batch of Fanatec Sparco Wheels also introduces the ClubSport Wheel Rim Sparco GT. This wheel features a D-shape commonly found in GT-style cars before they made the switch to modern Formula-style rims. It features a diameter fo 310 mm. Combined with either the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox or the CSL Universal Hub V2, it forms a bundle in the shop. The latter will not be available until December 14, however.

For rally fans, another option in the shape of the 320-mm ClubSport Wheel Rim Sparco Rally. The round rim measures 320 mm in diameter (10 less than the R383) and should make off-road racers feel right at home. It is also available with the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 and the Podium Button Module Rally as the ClubSport Steering Wheel Rally Sweden, which is sold out at the time of writing this article.

Lastly, the ClubSport Wheel Rim Sparco Karting comes in at 350 mm of diameter and is flat at the top, just like in a real kart. The wheel also features a stitched Sparco logo at the top of the rim itself. For those trying to build a karting simulator, this might be a great option.

No Full Availability Yet

While both the GT and Rally rims are already listed in the Fanatec shop, the other two of the Fanatec Sparco Wheels are not. If any of them piqued your interest, it might be worth keeping an eye on the webshop.

From the left in the pic:

Sparco GT. A strange name IMO for a double-D shaped Sparco P310 clone (with no buttons) - the same outer rim as the Thrustmaster wheel of the same name but with standard 6 hole 70mm PCD. I loved this for rally cars when I had a TS-XW. The original from Sparco is £267.18 Euro, this one on offer at £139.99 / £199 with a CSL hub and QR1 Lite from Fanatec. (Pre-orders).

Sparco Rally. As per the article it looks like a slightly smaller Sparco R383 clone without the horn button. Sparco would like £229.36, from Fanatec they were on offer at £139.99. Until they sold out.

Sparco Karting. Slightly smaller (5mm) than the KG345, with the same 3 hole mounting. So you can't use the new Rally button box with it, or fit more than 3 button clusters to a Podium hub. Get the Sparco original for £137.25 (offer), or pay £139.99 to Fanatec.

Sparco Formula. A six hole clone of the three hole F-10 A. Looks like it should work well with the CSL hub or two button clusters on the Podium / Universal hubs. £259.86 from Sparco, £139.95 sale price from Fanatec. 270mm diameter is small, but I have a 250mm tiny Momo - "like steering with a Polo mint" as one friend described using my tiny Momo. I love this for driving e.g. a Lotus 72 - no buttons, no flappy paddles, and at least some versions of the original car used a tiny Momo almost like mine :)

[Prices in Euros from Sparco Official - probably cheaper if you shop around, but Fanatec are actually fairly reasonable in comparison]

With the Trustmaster Sparco wheel clones another important difference (for Simracers) was that the clones were lighter, but not as stiff as the originals.

A lighter wheels gives more nuances in FFB.

Wheels look great. A nice variety for the Fanatec user base. Nice to see something other than standard McLaren type rims.

Fanatec Sparco Formula wheel is indeed attractive tempting--wish it were leather instead of alcantara, however.
Most steering wheels are in fact suede, and not alcantara. Looks and feels similar, but has to be treated differently when cleaning and caring.

Alcantara is a synthetic suede substitute, which is cheaper and much more durable (but doesn't feel as nice). If you clean a suede wrapped wheel as aggressively as you would clean an alcantara wrapped one, you will most likely ruin it.
