EA Sports WRC Set for September Reveal

After a lot of uncertainty surrounding whether the new EA Sports licenced WRC game would be releasing, we finally have official word on the title: The game will be revealed next week.

The World Rally Championship is undoubtedly the leading form of off road racing, and has a huge fanbase - enough to warrant an officially licenced video game! The licence had been in the hands of Kylotonn between 2015 and 2022.

But now it falls under control of EA Sports and Codemasters, the latter of whom developed the DIRT titles. Now with the official WRC licence, the rally sim racing community will no longer be split between two sets of games.

The initial release date was 28 July for what was originally called WRC 23, but that came and went with no news. Players were beginning to believe the worst. However, those fears can
now be put to bed.

On the official EA Sports WRC YouTube channel on 5 September at 5pm CEST, the game will be publicly revealed. A teaser video on social media shows three World Rally Championship cars, the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, Hyundai i20 N Rally1 and Ford Puma Rally1.

Not much else has been confirmed beyond this, but it is possible that we may already know
the release date and more.

EA Sports WRC: November Release?

Reputable leaker billbil-kun made the bold claim that the game would not be called WRC 23 as expected, instead taking on the EA Sports WRC moniker, which proved true! So it is not too much of a stretch to believe they are also correct about other details.

The leaker claims it will launch for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with both a Standard and Champions Edition. But when it will launch? That will be 3 November, and Champions
Edition owners can get early access starting 31 October.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of them all is the price: Most games nowadays are pushing the envelope when it comes to cost. EA Sports WRC on the other hand according to billbil-kun will be relatively inexpensive. The leaker claims it will cost €49.99/£44.99/$49.99.

Considering F1 23 (another Codemasters and EA Sports licenced racing game) launched at £69.99 for the standard edition, that seems almost to be a bargain. Time will tell whether all of this is true. Luckily, that time is only a few days! Tune in to the EA Sports WRC YouTube channel to follow the reveal of the new game.

It's interesting it lacks "23". That either means it might be delayed until next year or maybe, just maybe, it'll be a service game with DLC for locations, cars, historical seasons, etc. One WRC to rule them all? DiRT Rally 2.0 went big on DLC... I wouldn't expect EA to change that!

I'd love for EA to give us WRC in the same manner they have dealt with the Sims 4 for all these years...

A new DLC for each year would work better than a new game on the same engine every year...

My hope is that the slight delay in releasing the title is because they're building rally courses on par with what K-T has done in the last few years.
Probably NOT, but I can dream :)

I'd rather have them continuing what they started with the DiRT Rally series in using actual real proper stages. And not fantasy-stages with some recognizable areas like usual WRC games.

if it's made by the same team that made dirt 5 then we're going to have garbage like dirt 5 that not even a replay knew how to do, worst game ever in the dirt series

The people defending EA are probably the same people spending hundreds on FUT crap hoping they can get Messi to improve their e-peen.

If you can't see how EA are bad for gamers then you deserve every bad thing they do
You say this yet you probably subscribe to iracing

This forum is such a toxic place these days. Full of bitter middle aged men.

I've bought WRC 22 for the 1st time last year and I can't configure well The FBB for my wheel (T500 RS). It was really weird and awful to drive, So I've uninstalled it...
Really bad experience!

It's not the same team, Dirt 5 was made by a different Codemasters studio.

People standing up not paying companies that have burned them and other consumers again and again isn't idiotic. Being a sheeple that thinks what does my money matter or the likes is the idiot. Have a spine
EA has never burned me, and I've played tons of EA games in my life.

I've got a spine there's no issue with ea games only if idiots like you pump money into extra content from them. Get a life.

I love seeing an annnouncement of a reveal before a pre-release before pre-orders before announcements of a... okay, I'll stop. :roflmao:

I'll wait to see what the actual game looks like before making judgements. I hope EA has managed to create a good rally video game (including single player) that feels nice to drive on all surfaces.

Given the mess that was F1 22 and F1 23 on release I'm going to wait on this one... F1 22 is worth playing now, it wasn't on release...

Give it 6 months to a year to have it's post release patches fix it... Then see what it's like... I'm still having fun with Dirt Rally 2.0 even with the tarmac physics being hilarious... So I'm not rushing to upgrade...
This happens with all EA games. They rush the devs to get it out. -But if you buy pre-order the upgraded editions you can have 3 days to a week of early access to beta test for them so the game isnt 100% unplayable upon release.

They say the price will be low but guaranteed the "ultimate" version will be $100+ if not packed full of microtransactions.

Ill take that cowardly CEO's advice, "If you dont like it, dont buy it".

Disclaimer: I know this is a rather negative attitude to take but I very much dislike EA these days.

Codemasters didnt release DiRT Rally 3, even though they apparently had done quite a bit of work on it.
The DiRT Rally series and DiRT *number* series had different dev.teams.

Codemasters will do good things with this. Got to laugh at the idiots that won't buy it just because its EA. Sad people.
No doubt EA has the capacity to do awesome things - not least as they have a broad set of developers gained over the years.

But "EA" and "bargain" are not synonymous in our timeline and that's a fact.
Other comments about being a barebones game with add-ons is how I can see this unfolding.
I don't really mind that, but it's to the extent that it's done that'll be eye-opening.

Here's hoping that there's not too much gouging on the cars and track packs that'll surely follow.
What would be nice would be a reasonably priced pack for key WRC/Rally events of the past - giving cars, stages and relative driver names & performance. I'd in fact pay good money to gain that immersion into rally history

Being an EA title it would have to be pretty damn good before I decided the money in my pocket deserves to be in their pocket instead.

But, being an EA title there is little chance it will any good at all, so my money and integrity should be maintained.
