EA Sports WRC Set for September Reveal

After a lot of uncertainty surrounding whether the new EA Sports licenced WRC game would be releasing, we finally have official word on the title: The game will be revealed next week.

The World Rally Championship is undoubtedly the leading form of off road racing, and has a huge fanbase - enough to warrant an officially licenced video game! The licence had been in the hands of Kylotonn between 2015 and 2022.

But now it falls under control of EA Sports and Codemasters, the latter of whom developed the DIRT titles. Now with the official WRC licence, the rally sim racing community will no longer be split between two sets of games.

The initial release date was 28 July for what was originally called WRC 23, but that came and went with no news. Players were beginning to believe the worst. However, those fears can
now be put to bed.

On the official EA Sports WRC YouTube channel on 5 September at 5pm CEST, the game will be publicly revealed. A teaser video on social media shows three World Rally Championship cars, the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, Hyundai i20 N Rally1 and Ford Puma Rally1.

Not much else has been confirmed beyond this, but it is possible that we may already know
the release date and more.

EA Sports WRC: November Release?

Reputable leaker billbil-kun made the bold claim that the game would not be called WRC 23 as expected, instead taking on the EA Sports WRC moniker, which proved true! So it is not too much of a stretch to believe they are also correct about other details.

The leaker claims it will launch for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with both a Standard and Champions Edition. But when it will launch? That will be 3 November, and Champions
Edition owners can get early access starting 31 October.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of them all is the price: Most games nowadays are pushing the envelope when it comes to cost. EA Sports WRC on the other hand according to billbil-kun will be relatively inexpensive. The leaker claims it will cost €49.99/£44.99/$49.99.

Considering F1 23 (another Codemasters and EA Sports licenced racing game) launched at £69.99 for the standard edition, that seems almost to be a bargain. Time will tell whether all of this is true. Luckily, that time is only a few days! Tune in to the EA Sports WRC YouTube channel to follow the reveal of the new game.

Well, I will wait another decade for a rally simulator. Long life to RBR sadly still the king after almost 2 decades. Only Nascar fans have it as hard as Rally fans having to go to heavily modded Nascar racing 2003 for something that can resemble a simulator.

Good VR support with MSAA as in DR2. Improved physics, damage model, improved handling on tarmac. Historical cars besides modern WRC cars. I hope that EA didn't ruin it and made it more arcade. So a lot of hope but I am prepared to get disappointed because it's EA in the end.

I´m afraid that VR will be using the same Sh*t that we have now in F1 23 and any bug reports will be left totally unattended by CM/EA.

Valid worry. Their support on VR is horrible. I didn't buy F1 23 for that reason and I refunded F1 22. Let's hope that the team that works on WRC is a different team than F1.

My hope is that the slight delay in releasing the title is because they're building rally courses on par with what K-T has done in the last few years.
Probably NOT, but I can dream :)

Probably basic with limited content, then there will be ultimate and later super ultimate edition with DLCs.
Still can't wait to see what is coming.
No VR support this time, correct?

EA Sports being the publisher did not stop F1 Challenge 99'-02' from being a much beloved simulator, whose engine went on to be used in rFactor. This is merely a caveat in what is more important here; Codemasters finally getting a chance to do a WRC game, 25 years on from CMR1. Of course that caveat could become a clusterf*** if EA forces Denuvo onto the product like the last CM releases...

I usually don't write off games up front, but Codemasters have been heading downhill with the F1 series (wheel not recognized, FFB not working, game being blurry, etc.) so I have absolutely zero expectations and won't even consider buying until the reviews are absolutely spotless.

contrary to the negative flow this thread is taking, I am really looking forward to this. Dirt1 and Dirt2 looked brilliant and were great fun to play with some caveats concerning tarmac tracks. The Kyloton WRC titles had great tracks but didn't look half as engaging and the physics, though improving, never got close to Dirt Rally, at least not on my wheel (non DD). So, quite excited to maybe get my hands on this for a reasonable price come christmas time?

On the good side its nice that codies got the wrc license. Nowe we will have the wrc content with a better driving model imo. On the bad side they are locked into a license that wants to put out a game every year. That leaves no room for big content drops that expand on the gane with new cars and tracks. So what we get will be a yearly release with minimal updates and changes for a full price, instead of having one game that they can work on for 2 or 3 years.

It's interesting it lacks "23". That either means it might be delayed until next year or maybe, just maybe, it'll be a service game with DLC for locations, cars, historical seasons, etc. One WRC to rule them all? DiRT Rally 2.0 went big on DLC... I wouldn't expect EA to change that!

Given the mess that was F1 22 and F1 23 on release I'm going to wait on this one... F1 22 is worth playing now, it wasn't on release...

Give it 6 months to a year to have it's post release patches fix it... Then see what it's like... I'm still having fun with Dirt Rally 2.0 even with the tarmac physics being hilarious... So I'm not rushing to upgrade...
