BTCC DLC Coming to rFactor 2

BTCC cars are the latest content to be confirmed for rFactor 2, joining Donington Park and Brands Hatch as DLC releases scheduled for next month.

rFactor 2's quarterly content drop due next month is shaping up nicely.

While the corporate world surrounding Studio 397 is in apparent shambles, the developer continues to impress with their upcoming content. British Touring Cars are joining the sim as DLC in the coming weeks.

This may not have been the news BTCC fans had ultimately been looking for as compared to the prospect of a full simulator dedicated to these touring cars, but it appears this will have to suffice for the time being.

The BTCC DLC will focus on two cars for the time being, the Infiniti Q50 and Toyota Corolla GR Sport. Each will have its respective 2021 BTCC liveries. Studio 397 plans to release a 2022 update with new cars and the latest liveries later this year.

The writing may have been on the wall for this DLC, as the two other pieces of content announced for the second quarterly release in rFactor 2 were British racing circuits. Donington Park and Brands Hatch have both been confirmed for the sim. This doesn't complete the BTCC calendar, but provides more locations in which to drive these cars.

my one again off again love afair with RF2 might get rekindled.. im hoping all the effort put into the halfwitted nascar game was not lost and rf2 can eventually get a graphics engine overhgaul as well.

Are we sure that s397 will be able to release the future cars? Are we sure that s397 will still be here next year? As s397 love writing articles.. We may need s397 to explain to the players that the company is not endangered or will not sink after the MSG controversy. That could boost the new content sales in some way...if...the pack is not too expensive like some of the previous one..

I think sometime in the next couple days they have to write a 3.2 million dollar check to Luminus to complete the S397 purchase so things could go downhill pretty quick.
Who knows, maybe they'll sell over 100,000 units of Brands/Donny and the 2 BTCC cars to cover that.

We have Donington Park, Brands Hatch and BTCC cars, now we only need a functional AI to race with
AI ?!

Nah we need good official servers that host all the official content, populated with real drivers to race against/with. A iRacing kind of system (without the payments :) ) would be great.

Well the downside of all this is that you'll probably end up paying more for DLC than what you would for the whole game if it had been released.

iRacing is a phenomenon that would not be far far as popular if it launched today. And even with iRacing you don't need to own every car on the server, just the one you are racing with. rFactor 2 needs a good base that attracts all kinds of players and build its online community from it. Not skip having a decent base experience and wait for people to join servers.

I guess we are also forgetting is who the target audience for the BTCC game really was....

It wasn't PC owners, it was the MASSIVE user base of casuals on consoles. The game could have made big money in that market but as Rfactor2 DLC it won't make much.

Very clearly these are cars and tracks developed for the BTCC game, that we're probably never going to get.

Seeing a couple of people mention it'll "help stop the bleeding" but please tell me how making $5000 from selling a few touring cars to the people left playing rF2 will somehow right the course of a company hemorrhaging millions each month.

Maybe it was planned all along but I think this DLC is happening after some sort of meeting with TOCA who run BTCC as a workable solution that could see some much needed content for BTCC fans & MSG could demonstrate that they could maybe release a dedicated BTCC game in the future.
If they have most of the cars & most of the tracks in RF2 by the end of 2022 they can convince investors that a BTCC game release in 2023 on the Xbox/PS5 will be a success. My guess is that they simply wont reach that point because like you say they dont have time or money.A smart investor with some knowledge of the sim market would be better off letting MSG run out of money & putting together a package to buy the RF2 & KartKraft software/licences & you start again without the poor reputation & other problems.

RF2 really is the problem child of sim racing.

Aint that the truth. The PC sims are like the Porsche 911,high end, niche & show off what the company can really do and the PS5 & Xbox versions are the Porsche Cayenne & Macan models that make the company the bulk of their profits.

That is why the Nascar game failure is so critical because that was where the revenue was coming from for MSG.Most casual racers want to start up their PS5 & sit on the sofa with their controller & play Nascar or GT7.They dont have the room, time or space to have a rig etc.Its always weird to read the elitist stuff on here sneering at these PS5/Xbox gamers. They help finance the serious pc sims,we all started there & they are the future sim racers.

How does anyone know there won't be more cars for Q2 yet ? lol
Even 3 cars a pack would almost finish the field yes ?
There might be more make sense doing $50AU packs like GT

Then if you use the nice enough Croft and Oulton available means you only need
4 more tracks over Q3 and Q4 to have Christmas time BTCC

This is fantastic and very confusing at the same time.

I would love to have a chat now with Marcel of S397 to have an idea of their roadmap and the plans for the MSG fiasco situation.

are you crazy ? in february 2022 the peak players record was broken, and this game has a Esport scene very very active, with pro players, like Verstappen...this game has never been as good, and it will improve again and again, it's not the last bullet at all, rF2 is not desperated like AMS2 or Raceroom...
rFactor 2 is above any other sim.
Are you sure about that "any other sim" ?
Let's check the numbers:

The arguments over which sim has the biggest dick come around more often than a Milkman in the 1980s, at the end of the day it doesn't seem to affect the Devs that much, RF2/RaceRoom/AMS2 are all very similar in terms of player count and they're all still going so those arguments are null & void for me.

Also every time I see people bemoan the potential cost of sim racing DLC I just :roflmao: in their face, having got into Flight Simming these past two years I can tell you the sim racing devs don't charge NEARLY enough for top quality content - example I can buy a Developer made DLC Pack of 3 Cars for RF2 and for the same price can buy a 3rd party Mod that puts a few birds in the Sky in MSFS......the difference between Racing & Flight mod costs is massive.....and I'm also more out of pocket!

So on that point and relative to the Subject at hand, YES I will buy the DLC not matter the price, the tracks & Cars...but as mentioned before - not until more solid AI Fixes come along, which is the reason I uninstalled in the first place!

It's a good question, I think they are 2021 variants not 2022. Therefore non hybrid

Well in the video he says that the teams/cars of 2022 will come later this year.. with the current technical regulations.. so maybe hybrid systems comming? :)

Btw it's insane how many rF2-haters are commentating this.. is it the same in ACC or iRacing news?

Criticism is good and needed, especially when seeing a company like MSG. But it's now about the content coming.. and what you think about these cars, would you buy it or not.. do you like them? For me it's a little dream. For years I waited for updates for new cars in the very good BTCC-Mod for rF2 - but now getting it as official content, i am happy as f*ck :)
