Automobilista 2 Version V1.3.8.1 Released

The latest monthly update for Reiza Studios popular title Automobilista 2 has been released.

Following on from a successful Release Candidate update early last week, the latest content, physics upgrades and quality of life fixes were officially rolled out on Friday 1st July. We take a look at some of the highlights of this release below.

The Argentinean Pack

The main highlight amongst the considerable raft of changes in the latest release is undoubtedly the Argentinean Pack. This track pack is free for all owners of the base game and contains a mixture of tracks previously released by Reiza Studios alongside a completely new track.

The first circuit returning to the fold is Buenos Aires. In fact, there is a grand total of 6 layouts available comprising of a technical infield and ultrafast straights. Each one offering a great driving experience and some fun racing opportunities.

Another returnee is the Cordoba circuit, except this time, we have two additional layouts. These were added with the official release on Friday. The flowing layouts are great for some of the older stock cars which slide through the corners.

The other circuit to be added is Termas de Rio Hondo. With its wide, sweeping layout, this track has hosted MotoGP and WTCC events in its recent history. It is ideal for everything from GTs to single seaters and features some great overtaking opportunities.

Physics updates

As has been the case in the last few updates, the team at Reiza studios have been hard at work in producing some updated physics for some of the car classes currently featured in-game.

For this latest update, the improved physics have been rolled out for the Group A touring cars, BMW M1 Procar, Sprint Race, Mini JCW and F3 single seaters and many more. Each of these new cars are now feeling even better to drive than before with improved handling and road feel.

There are also other physics updates to tyre and drivetrain models for a variety of cars along with other tweaks to further raise the handling bar as the title seeks to fully utilise the potential of the Madness engine.

Let us know your thoughts on this update in the comments below and to read the full change log check out the next page of this article.

How is it playing with a pad thought? havent tried it without a wheel for a loong time
I love the game, I really do but it's hopeless on a game pad, so much so that I uninstalled it again. I accidentally deleted my config and I can't for the life of me make it driveable again. Driving the GT4 Camaro is like having pillow tyres on ice. On ACC, which I recently got, it's an absolute dream.

So, to reiterate, I really want to like the game, I love the graphics, the content but pad play is rubbish, just like PC1 to be honest.

Multiplayer is so bad. Basic navigation is bugged. Going from server list to lobby and back doesnt actually get you to server list but to main menu. WTF. How hard it can be to get basic menu navigatin right after 2 years?

Exactly. There are many communities holding races/championships sometimes even multiple times a week.
Without competition servers it will be hard to have casual pick-up races, but communities are pretty lively
And more than that, there are even VR parties where everyone is naked, just the headset wire is disturbing.

(Don't ask me the source)

At least AMS 2 has the merit of offering exotic content, it could even invent fictional tracks because after all these are games and the craziest or existing tracks can also be created virtually.

Ok, good update and all but...

I turned on the new version and got one of my favourite combos for a 30 minutes race: Porsche Cup 3.8 + dry Interlagos, AI 100/60.

Not a good experience. AI keep this annoying behaviour reducing speed in two places that makes no sense, on of them near boxes entrance, in the main straight of the track. So, you are in a battle with some AI when, two times per lap, you have five choices:
1) Forget you are in a broken race and rear end AI finishing your enjoyment.
2) Copy the AI strange behaviour and lift off in these two points like they to to pretend you are in a normal race.
3) Go to Test Day mode and drive alone.
4) Spend half of game time searching for a combo that works (for the last update).
5) Turn off the game and come back in the next big update to see what is going on.

I know the answer I will receive: the game is a long term project, the game have very different content... Ok, nice, I am a day one player and I got used with the answer along these years. But I ask myself for how long we will be at this cycle where there always some fundamental thing that spoils my little game time after a long day at work. When I first knew AMS1, just a year before AMS2 release, it was a very solid game with very old and dated graphics and I loved it. I sincerely hope when AMS2 deliver a solid experience the market will not longer have walked towards new technologies making AMS2 a jewel for few and with old graphics, again.

Before people tell me just to go away from AMS2 I want to say the only reason I spent my time typing this message is because I care, because Reiza is the only company that delivers my country racing content so I really hope that this content get what deserves.

Sometimes the harsh (but polite) words are the only that can make you look in the right direction.

Cheers

The continuous work and development from Reiza on this title is outstanding.

It came a long way and even though, for me, it still has to evolve to interest me, I am glad I bought it, glad for those who enjoy it and will keep enjoying it, as sporadically as I do.

lemme guess ... no replay navigation still ? c'mon guys, 2022 goes to the dusk already
The problem is not 2022 or 2042. It's about the way the way data are encrypted and used in Madness Engine. Data including those from weather and track are interlinked to the time step or condition before. This makes it very complicated to "jump" or to save and re-start from saved condition.
Changing that requires a very deep change in the coding. It will probably happen, but not soon.

Has performance increased for racing in the rain in VR? Have been doing my rain races and changing weather conditions in RF2 as I dont have framedrops there. Unplayable for me in AMS2. They say it runs the best but only in sunny weather for me.

Great sim in SP mode. The immersion is a blast not to check with ACC where racing-immersion is so sterile.

V 1.3.8.2 is it

If you can easily overtake the ai at two spots on the track, aren’t you running the ai on a too low level? Why don’t you try ai level 102 or 105 for example?

Unfoturnately not... The AI is racing pretty much at my pace, except for these two spots where it is clearly off the behaviour of the rest of the track. To clarify, for example, after last curve of Interlagos you go full throttle until T1 but, for AI, theres a semicurve near to boxes where they drop off to much speed like they are liftting off throttle. After this point it returns to a normal race pace. I don't know if I made myself clear but It is like they are skilled racers in the rest of the track but becomes rookies in the first track day of their lives in just these two spots :).

But hey, to be honest, it's nothing new to me... I had this kind of experience for many times and in different track/car combos after updates. I know it will be fixed at some point... and than it will apear again at this combo or in another one. This is the whole point.

Anyway, thank you very much for your suggestion.

My advice is: report these AI issues in the official forums, there's a thread for such issues. Chances are good that the devs will read it.

Yeah... I did some reports in the past... I don't want to go offtopic to talk about the reason I don't do it anymore for a while. But thank you very much for your advice, I will think about it. :)
