Automobilista 2 Version 1.3.1 Now Live with Free Racin' USA DLC Weekend

Automobilista 2 Racin USA Part 2 01.jpg
Automobilista 2 has been updated to version 1.3.1.x, plus part 2 of the Racin' USA DLC has been released and offered for free until December 6th for owners of the game.

Reiza Studios has released another update and subsequent hotfix for Automobilista 2, building on the major physics and force feedback updates that came in version 1.3 last week.

Along with the update, most of the second part of the Racin' USA DLC has been released. The first part of the DLC included GTE and DPi cars, plus the Laguna Seca, Long Beach and Daytona tracks. The second part currently includes six varieties of CART cars from the late 1990's, plus the Cleveland Burke and Watkins Glen tracks. Road America will be added to the DLC in time.

Reiza has made this a free weekend for the Racin' USA DLC, so owners of AMS2 who haven't purchased the DLC can try it out for free until December 6th.

The changelog for this update is listed here. We'll take a deeper look at the new content soon, but for now be sure to share your own thoughts on this update and the new cars and tracks in the comments below

i loved Indycar Racing 1+2 back in the day, so i hope there will be some indycars from the early-mid 90s too and some of those iconic tracks like the 90s version of Long Beach, Surfers Paradise, Mid-Ohio, Detroit Belle Isle, Vancouver, Toronto...i loved those city street circuits.
If many people will support Reiza and buy their game and DLC‘s so that AMS2 gets more successful I‘m sure that Reiza will give us all we want, especially classic content which is already one of the unique sell points where AMS2 really shines with its historical track variants and classic cars. Also the VR experience is outstanding IMHO…

Unfortunately, my big problem with AMS2 is that almost every car looks identical to me. That is, it seems that the driving model always represents the same car with different stiffnesses and powers.
I come back now after a very short drive with the Reynard 98i Ford at Watkins Glen and after only two turns the same "same AMS2 car" feeling came back.
Then I tried a Porsche 962c always at the Glen and, also because of a not very communicative FFB even in the Default+ version, I had the sensation to drive a less fast Reynard.

To be fair it's not like the laws of physics change between cars IRL either.

plug and race , without those countless bugs in AC+SOL+CSP and without having a 5k€ rig to compete in ACC.

As someone not from USA I'm don't fully understand the cult behind CART, but the cars, and tracks from the new dlc, at least the ones that are available now, are fun.
As someone not from the USA I fully understand the cult about CART. Less electronics than F1, more competition, CART was just about racing when F1 is all about money and technology. And the tracks were great and different than the regular euopean ones. As AMS2 show us these great Brazilian tracks, adding something original and providing us some welcome variety, CART brought unusual tracks for non US citizens.

How much time did I spent on the champcar mod for F1 Challenge on this amazing track... Heavy understeery cars which only turned when applying gas, no aids, loud and fast.

This game doesn't change. ABS and TC do not work as they should. When cornering, the car unfolds for no particular reason. FBB remains as oaky as in PC2. Nevertheless, I buy all the DLC and follow this game, but there is no progress in physics. So far, this is only a disappointment. After rFactor2 it is very depressing.

i do think the ffb is a good step up from pc2, as are physics.
but you just feel in every car that madness engine physics working that is known from pc2, they seem to not be able to get rid of it, its just not to my liking.

i guess it only comes down to personal taste, some people hate the Assetto Corsa pyhsics and so naturally they mostly also dislike it in ACC. Same for PC2 and AMS2 for others.

Reiza are doing a great job in any case, i have only huge respect, way way better game and driving feel than PC or PC2.

What do you mean by ‘the ABS and TC do not work as they should’? Is that for all cars or a specific car (please specify)?

starting form 1.3 and the possibility to customize (no more Daigneault, Owen etc) AMS2 is the rightful successor of the wonderful AMS. What they add after 1.3 will be just more then wonderful. There is clearly some work to do (IA most of all) but the experience is the best a simracing game could gift you (owner of rfactor2, AC, ACC, F1 codemasters, AMS speaking)

I seriously don't understand why the player base is so small. This title is such a gem but people are still dissing it as PC2 clone. I wish PC2 was even close to AMS2... Yes it may need final polishing done here and there (which title doesn't?) but it's consistently heading in the right direction. Update after update. Kudos to Reiza for this focus.
Honestly I think they have a special position in the sim world...
It's too close to 100% sim to be played by casual gamers, and not enough a sim to become the main sim of hardcore simracers !
It's only my feeling, but being in the hardcore part of SimRacing, I can't get that "perfect feel" that iRacing or rF2 can provide (again, it's only based on my feeling)

But still a very very good title !

Which version was the last you tried? 0.5? I simply cannot follow your statements, it really feels totally different than a) PCars 2 and b) earlier versions of the sim. So not quite sure if you're just trolling... :D

Try deleting the AMS2 folder under documents and dial in all your settings once again, should take less than 5mins. Restart. If you still think this is shite stay with RF2 and be happy. Easy.

I stay off-line racing because I would hate to be the kind of competition you are experiencing. Not because I would cause incidents on purpose, but because I am still climbing the learning curve twenty years into sim racing. Myself, I have seen way too many on-line players who do not take crashing seriously enough, and are just there to cause trouble [see Raceroom]. I still find the AI races a great time and I hurt no one's feelings.
I've felt like that for a long time. If you do want to dip your toes in, find some community in simracing.gp. There are a lot of "casual" leagues out there. The SR604 community actually has a specific rookie league where there is a huge focus on developing racecraft more than pace. If you're in North America, it's a tremendous place to learn.

Try a clean install. Your experience is wildly different to most people. Also when 1.3 launched you had to delete the setups folder.

Some other aspects that made CART great:
  • Several different chassis: Penske, March, Lola, Swift, Galmer, Reynard, etc.
  • Different engineers: Ford, Chevy, Porsche, Buick, Mercedese, Alfa Romoe, etc.
  • Types of Track: Perm Road, Temp Road, Short Oval, Super Speedway
  • Countries: USA, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Germany
  • Big Name Drivers: Andretti, Unser, Fittipaldi, Foyt, Mears, ...........
  • Many different winners each year
  • Indy 500

For perspective: different classes run on different tires, different driveline (with masses, inertia), different suspension geometry etc.
There are some common grounds in tires construction (save for actual sizes) for GT/Protos, but not between them and formulas or touring cars or vintage or stock.
So as a matter of fact things under the hood are indeed very much different among classes and even in the same class with similar models, specific parameters of physics and engines are plugged in.
So to make an example even the Reynard Mercedes is not the same car as the Reynard Honda.

it's just a personal opinion but i don't like the new cars or single seater i find them very strange to drive as if they rotate on themselves, physics problem?
I think it's more your settings problem... ie, degrees of wheel set to 1080 or 540? Without the description of your equipment and settings, it's impossible to know.

It's kind of a common problem with SETA, that throttle rotation in RWD cars. ISImotor does that stuff too. Why exactly is beyond me because the G-G and traction circle might be perfectly fine like in ISI. Maybe some transient slip effect.

I am not from USA as well, but fully understand that CART cult. I saw live on TV when M.Papis ran out of fuel on the last lap in 1999 Michigan race, also when Tracy was arguing heavily with his team boss in Houston, for fighting with his teammate...
Later I even visited race in 2001 in Lausiztring.
And you what made me crazy the most? When I saw movie's " Driven" cover in shop, there was F1 car on it, not champcar.
These days only MotoGP\Moto2\Moto3 series + Superbike bring such joy.
F1 also was OK back then, but the most beautiful open-wheeler for me is Lola in 1995. And pay attention in this 1998 carset and others - how colourful-different liveries were back then. These days they are more "subtle" I remember that a few years ago F1 was full of grey - black liveries. I could not tell apart them on TV.
