Automobilista 2 Version 1.3.1 Now Live with Free Racin' USA DLC Weekend

Automobilista 2 Racin USA Part 2 01.jpg
Automobilista 2 has been updated to version 1.3.1.x, plus part 2 of the Racin' USA DLC has been released and offered for free until December 6th for owners of the game.

Reiza Studios has released another update and subsequent hotfix for Automobilista 2, building on the major physics and force feedback updates that came in version 1.3 last week.

Along with the update, most of the second part of the Racin' USA DLC has been released. The first part of the DLC included GTE and DPi cars, plus the Laguna Seca, Long Beach and Daytona tracks. The second part currently includes six varieties of CART cars from the late 1990's, plus the Cleveland Burke and Watkins Glen tracks. Road America will be added to the DLC in time.

Reiza has made this a free weekend for the Racin' USA DLC, so owners of AMS2 who haven't purchased the DLC can try it out for free until December 6th.

The changelog for this update is listed here. We'll take a deeper look at the new content soon, but for now be sure to share your own thoughts on this update and the new cars and tracks in the comments below

I've bought ams2 because it was so highly recommended here at RD. And yes I really like the visuals in VR and the single player races. But the online races are crap. Even with this new rating system. How can i increase my rating if I can't survive T1 or T2. My last 5 races were horrible. I waste my time to get a good starting position to leave the race angry after a few seconds... very sad.
I stay off-line racing because I would hate to be the kind of competition you are experiencing. Not because I would cause incidents on purpose, but because I am still climbing the learning curve twenty years into sim racing. Myself, I have seen way too many on-line players who do not take crashing seriously enough, and are just there to cause trouble [see Raceroom]. I still find the AI races a great time and I hurt no one's feelings.

I seriously don't understand why the player base is so small. This title is such a gem but people are still dissing it as PC2 clone. I wish PC2 was even close to AMS2... Yes it may need final polishing done here and there (which title doesn't?) but it's consistently heading in the right direction. Update after update. Kudos to Reiza for this focus.
They are in the right path but they need to advance some more before pushing to have a bigger player base that won't see this as a PC2 clone. Some cars are still in lower quality than others, which is what PC2 did. But 1.3 was definitely a good step for GT cars at least.
Once that is done they need to invest on marketing. Beginning with the name, they tried to pull an "Assetto Corsa" and failed. And somehow this was a good thing, as I said, so they have time to fix stuff. I hope their licensing deals allows rebranding, this name sounds bad even in portuguese. Our language is not something the world enjoys anyway.

AI usually won't hurt your feelings either + races can be very competitive if setup correctly.

I've not been a fan of AMS2, as said by many others, some content drives better than others etc.

That said, I've had an absolute blast driving the Champ Cars at Cleveland!! Seriously impressed with these cars in AMS2, so even if the bulk of the content is still off a little, these will be my go to for playing this sim now!!

Oh and gr8 job with Cleveland Reiza, loved watching Champ Cars there on TV and it was my favourite track in Cart Precision Racing!!

Reiza is doing a great job as always. Especially Watkins Glen was high on my wish list and does not disappoint.
Regarding the CART cars I'm having my doubts. These cars had turbo engines, afaik. I do not feel/notice this in the game much. The cars just seem a bit too easy to drive (very planted and easy on the gas pedal). I would have liked more of a fight with the car as in AC by RSS (modern) and VRC (both modern and old).

Watkins is clearly rushed and hopefully not final. So many track details missing. Infield is a ghost town missing nearly every structure besides the grandstands. Track layout looks fine and it looks complete from inside the walls. But just don't look any further than that.

Cart had a low pressure turbo, so they were not as crazy in power deployment as the Formula 1 turbo cars

I am impressed Reiza got permission from Swift, Reynard, & Lola for their chassis.

The junker endurance racing organization formerly known as ChumpCar (I have a ChumpCar t-shirt and participated in the first race back in 2009 plus two more in the next season) was granted the ChampCar name at no cost in 2018 (see https://champcar.org/web/) ... wonder if Reiza has tried pursuing licensing the name from them?

My guess is that it has something to do with the marketing department. It needs more refinement for UX/UI, branding, design and overall art direction. Small details are key. Ui navigation and visual balance make big difference on the casual subconscious. As a graphic designer i may be a little biased on this matter though.

I appreciate so much a developer who is vested in constantly making their product better and better. Reiza is that for me. I love all aspects of AMS2, but for me the open wheelers are simply awesome and now having CART and Cleveland (who knew?) oh man. It’s not my SIM for competitive online multiplayer but for Single Player AI, TT, and Hot Laps, it’s a blast. Easily running 60-90 frames on a 1080, I’m in.

Love WG not too fond of Cleveland but both tracks are good quality, the carts ffb is a bit disappointing, not getting much detail I would expect more with such a car but the cars handle well.
Cleveland is not « likable » at first, but once you get to understand it, it’s a very fun track, if only because it’s very different. I confess: I cheated, I turned on the ideal line aid in the option menu, because it’s not easy to find your way the first time around!

I agree, the UI could use some input to give it a little « polish » that’s missing. Are you interested, as a graphic designer? ;)

To be fair, the "ideal line" is only a starting point, not 'the' line. It's not cheating to study.

Gotta say I absoloutely love the two new tracks, very very different, like chalk and cheese, great to have these extremes in approach. The New cars feel great. A.I. at Wakins is a bit of a situation but im not bothered as knowing Reiza, it will be soreted within a week (cause thats what they do, refine, refine, refine!). Also found some other little things that have improved, I say little, but its always those little improvements that turn out to be massive in'it! (like I can now use Silverstone 1991, nice one!) Bravo Reiza, cause some of these little things have put one massive smile on this simracers face! Cheers! Luv Ya!

Hi all,
I am very happy with the last updates of AMS2.
The new Racin' USA Pt.2 is really awesome.

As I am not a dedicated AMS2 "Fanboy" but a lover of all kind of Motorsports and Racing in real and virtual.

Regarding AMS2 and all the critics, I have to say, no it is not perfect.
But the small team of developers at REIZA are doing a really great job because racing is their passion.

They of course have not the budget of a AAA Studio, not even the budget es Kunos eg.

With PC2 and the Madness engine as the base for development they have taken a real big challenge to bring this forward.

Of course, if you look at Kunos, the have developed ACC close to perfection, but remind that they have only a few tracks and just 2 classes of cars to care about.

It is completely different if you have to care about 50+ classes of cars and 50+ tracks with different layouts.
Think about what immense work ist must be to keep all this tracks and cars up to date, looking at the physics of every single car and the details of every track.

So far AMS2 is now a really pretty gem in sim racing.

Physics have been developed so much during the last updates and look at the weather conditions.
Where else can you drive with real weather and real historic weather ?
Look at the season foliages, where else do you have such nice and with lifeblood created detailed environments ?

I think it is not only physics down to the last screw that is necessary to be a perfect racing sim.
It is the whole package from physics to graphics, variety, muliplayer options etc.
Of course AMS2 is not perfect now, but it is on a good road to get there.

Give them some time at REIZA , support them, report bugs, give them your feedback and the will make AMS2 the perfect sim for a big base of sim racers.

Have a nice day and keep on racin' !

(If you like , some of my AMS2 videos are present now in the "Videos" section)

I find it strange not to have CART and old F1 point systems among those offered in Championship Mode.

i loved Indycar Racing 1+2 back in the day, so i hope there will be some indycars from the early-mid 90s too and some of those iconic tracks like the 90s version of Long Beach, Surfers Paradise, Mid-Ohio, Detroit Belle Isle, Vancouver, Toronto...i loved those city street circuits.

Unfortunately, my big problem with AMS2 is that almost every car looks identical to me. That is, it seems that the driving model always represents the same car with different stiffnesses and powers.
I come back now after a very short drive with the Reynard 98i Ford at Watkins Glen and after only two turns the same "same AMS2 car" feeling came back.
Then I tried a Porsche 962c always at the Glen and, also because of a not very communicative FFB even in the Default+ version, I had the sensation to drive a less fast Reynard.
