The Historic Sim Studios team is proud to present the first of our 1934-1935 Grand Prix cars for Assetto Corsa, our 1934 Maserati 8CM.

History of the Car:
The 1934 Maserati 8CM was powered by a 3.0-liter supercharged straight-eight engine that could produce up to 240 horsepower. The car had a top speed of around 155 miles per hour and could go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just over 6 seconds. It featured a 400mm drum brake on each wheel and a lightweight chassis which gave it rather pleasant handling characteristics. The car debuted in 1933 and won the 1933 Belgian GP. Unfortunately, in 1934 the car would be outshone by the silver arrows as the 8CM did not have the horsepower or luck necessary to bring home a victory in 1934, although it was competitive throughout the season.

1934 Maserati 8CM Features:
  • Historically accurate physics based upon researched data. We also have used CSP extended physics to include more accurate additional physics simulation:
    • Multiple contact point tires (no longer limited to a single contact point) with RainFX support.
    • Engine damage model, where the engine will gradually lose power with damage when beyond 50% of its health, then at 25% the engine will start to have throttle cuts.
    • Advanced fuel consumption code.
    • Suspension physics improvements.
  • Finely tuned AI.
  • Ten historically accurate paint schemes that include actual driver names.
  • Custom 8CM engine sounds.
REQUIRED:
  • Custom Shaders Patch by Ilja
  • 1923 Driver Model by Nicecuppatea

Currently HSS is NOT supporting CSP v0.2.3 preview 211.
The recommended CSP version is v0.2.3 preview 1.

Do to the drastic changes in preview 211 (and some bugs within 211), we are going to wait for the next CSP update before we begin releasing any updates supporting the extended physics changes.

Much improved after the physics update. Impressed that the physics person asked us for feedback on our Discord forum and reacted accordingly.

Car is now great to drive and should join our regular rotation of racing cars.

With a more accurate sound FX bank, this car would get the full brace of 5 stars.

Side note. I'm quite amazed at the easy 5 stars that other Overracetakedepartment members throw around like cheap candy.
FFB is nicely detailed and thanks for the efforts to keep adding more goodness.
Excellent work, it would be nice to have another car from that season so as not to have single-brand races, question does anyone know if skins have been made in addition to those of the original model?

Currently our four other 1934 cars are available for our supporters to test, with the Alfa Romeo P3 nearing a free public release within the next couple of months.
Very good car. The model looks great and th physics feel very intuitive. The only issue I see is the AI. They seem to have severe problems with acceleration and topspeed. While some problems with more unconventional cars are to be expected, the AI doesn't even seem to be able to get past 200 kph, making AI races pretty trivial. I tested ths at several tracks, both mods and vanilla, with and withou CSP AI at 100% strength with every aggression level. This is really the only issue, if that gets fixed, I will give it 5 stars.
I'm going to give this a solid 4/5. The physics feel great and I couldn't ask for much more. Visually the model is basically perfect. The two things that drop the score to 4 I would say are the sounds, which are a little low quality (I know how hard it is to get accurate sound samples without access to the real car) and the mirror, which is stretched/squashed on my system. Using v1.01.
what an amazing race car. Not nearly as difficult to drive as the auto union type A.
Thanking you for the excellent work you do, I ask just one question, will there also be auto union and alfa romeo P3 1934 to compete on line with this model?
Thank you for your kind reply.

hello
beautifull 3D model
easy to drive ( poor brakes ( it's normal ) )
thank you
The physics are good, but the performances seem too high. A 8CM finished third at Goodwood in 1.40 and I did a lap in 1.34 (it can beat your Ferrari 500 F2)

The Ferrari 500 F2 had a 2L engine that produced 185hp, this car had a 3L engine that produced 240hp. We are also using specifications from late in the 1934 season, so that it has a best chance against the other 1934 GP cars (the Mercedes W25's engine produced over 300hp). I don't entirely BOP our cars, but I do tend to choose the fastest cars from early specifications in a season, and slower cars from later specifications in a season. Sometimes we don't have the option and its difficult to find information, but with the 1934 pack we have been fortunate to have plenty of sources.

Track conditions also play a major factor, we recommend always using "Old" or "Dusty" settings for track grip.

Drivers in the 1930s (and throughout vintage racing) had to baby their cars, taking care to be easy on them when racing so they did not break, we don't have to worry about that too much (although some updates are planned for all the HSS cars using Lua code to add never before seen features in AC to HSS cars).

Finally, we can push without fear in a simulator, if we make a mistake we don't die. That is another factor that often limited drivers to driving at 80%, or even sometimes less, of a car's potential.

All of these are factors for performance that we have carefully examined during development and testing of this car.

A beautiful vintage racer, though might be a tad underweight; the 750 kg formula is based on dry weight; not factoring in driver, fuel, coolant, lubrication, or even tyres & the air in them.

Gary Paterson, maker of the Auto Union Type C mod on RaceDepartment has a book which lists both the dry and race-ready masses of many cars of this era in Hundredweights, so I suspect he might be able to confirm things.
Long time supporter of HSS, love that people are going to get a glimpse of how good the 30's GP cars are from you guys!
