Tactile Immersion - General Discussion - Hardware & Software

No probs guys, keen to get a small group of owners enjoying this and the new effects currently being done.
Some people have already got a start. I really do hope some get at least 4 exciters and 1x large BK with the DSP amp to be able to experience the effects I am doing in the proper way.

As an example, to compare to a typical installation.
Using road or suspenion type bumps, these feel really inferior when a single unit is trying to cover sensations for small active bumps, medium bumps and large bumps all at the same time, never mind what other effects that unit is configured to also output.

With a (4x1) installation, a person can have:

Exciter Pair 1 Shoulders = Small Bumps
Exciter Pair 2 Sides = Medium Bumps
Large BK = Med-Big Bumps & Impact Effects

This really gives much greater detailing for small curbs, grass, on/off track. sausage curbs, saw curbs and road dips. Been testing a new batch of effects today for this and wow, seriously it's so much better.

Teaser, still W.I.P

The effects also have specific settings for their operation regards threshold and gamma etc.

These will be shared with owners come a new batch of effects in Jan
Is there a place we can get your configurations? I 100% understand the "experiment" piece, but I mean as far as even a good "starting place"

I shared previous files on the Discord channel that some people enjoyed, they were not for any specific model or installation, you won't be stuck dude. I do give new "experimental" effects to people for free via download links that buy into the hardware and put a bit of faith into the concept working.

Ok fair enough - thanks again. I can't wait to try all this stuff and experiment.

It can be fun just experimenting.
I have learned a lot this year just with doing that and attempting different things with effects creation or in controlling better how the tactile will perform.

I can confirm that the new pro-bass effects I have been working on. The aim with these is to get the best low bass and high energy output we can but do so that it is still controlled and refined.

When I run these effects with the settings on the amp for controlling the bass via crossover and using the eq controls the bass sensations and performance is literally fantastic. If I was to run the amp as a standard (non DSP) model with no Crossover or EQ the response and sensation is very different and definitely not as good.

So for the best performance with the lowest frequencies (in using the large BK) we want these controls in place for sure that the DSP versions of the amps have. All a user will have to do is load one of the profiles I have done into the amp and it will be ready and matched to the effects I am making.

Several presets are going to be available for a user to find one they prefer. I want to give people options as well.

Not really needed for the exciters, we do need to limit their range, but using the soundcard as shown helps with that to eliminate the audio (like speaker). If using the HA6000 it will let you reduce the treble and increase the bass as well for any of the channels individually with the controls it has.

Its a nice way of being able to tune the output for each unit on the fly without having to make changes to the settings in Simhub when you already have pretty good profiles working.

Awesome, makes total sense. Last question for now - what is the freq range for the exciters? I tried looking at their spec sheet but I don't see an exact range I should limit it to

Bass on subwoofers as a reference of bass range is often capped at 200Hz some, 250Hz.

Going beyond 150Hz increases the audible noise generated with the additional harmonics that will be in this range. For example, an effect using 80Hz will have a harmonic at 160Hz.

With engine RPM the extra detail is felt from the output of the recommended exciter which is good for well over 100Hz. Yet many tactile units do very little in felt response over 80-100Hz range at all. Also with the exciters being directly mounted to the seat and at body-zones does help greatly as well in feeling these finer frequencies and the extra zing they bring to detailing.

We can look at how using the sound card EQ will help limit what the card outputs or you can look into additional PC software that will offer crossover control. If you do a thread on your build as a new user to all this it can be used as an example for others to learn and see.

An alternative unit (looked at before) like THIS will let a user with a standard amp with upto 4 channels have similar features to the DSP on the recommended Behringer NXD amps. You can browse its software as available to download on this link.

I have a question. I'm running the 4xExciter systems with the Behringer amp, signal coming from the decicated soundcard (Audigy FX) output. I have a spare Buttkicker Gamer and I'd like to try that together with the other setup. Do I need yet another soundcard, or can I plug it somehow on the Audigy? Audigy is 5.1, so currently for example the rear and sub connections are free.

Another question is the SimHub setup, anything to consider there?

If you have a 6 channel soundcard then it supports 6 channels, pretty simple and easy to test on the "Sound Output" screen for Simhub / Shakeit. Set the soundcard to "custom channel map" and you can then test or place effects to whatever channels you like.

Your actual amp will need a 5th channel unless you do what I did and hack multiple units on the same channel together. This will affect resistance and the ability to control it individually. But you can do it. I think the Gamer comes with it's own mono amp though doesn't it? You'd just need to connect that to your 5th output on the sound card and away you go.

Amps in particular for the exciters or budget tactile are cheap. With Shakeit it is better not to wire in series as we can duplicate effects anyways. For best results, we can get around some limitations of a single units operation being used for all effects. Simply by reducing the number of effects on the units and by keeping some effects separated, operating on entirely different units. Much better usage of the body zones as well, than just the same effects duplicated over various units.

@Chrhun could try using the Gamer unit for effects to help with low bass extension, this is what works really well with the larger BK units. It could work rather well for G-Force based effects and large bumps.

Well, it wasn't difficult, I'm running the BK from the sub channel and it comes up nicely in Simhub as two of the channels under the Audigy. I'm therefore easily able to choose what effects go to the BK. I'll try this out today to see what I prefer.

I actually got the exciter setup after my BK amp broke. It took a while but I got a brand new unit from them as mine was under warranty. I'm not super confident in the BK for long term, but I'll give it a try. In future I might be interested in running two shakers and a dedicated proper amp in addition to the current exciters (which I quite like, thank you again Mr. Latte for the idea and the concept).

@Chrhun
Good news that your up and running with ease.

I have been working on some specialist effects for the large BK units. Do have a BK Gamer unit laying around but have not tried using it with these, latest effects I have been working on. They may work not too bad on the smaller units as well but I cant be certain. I think the best way is for me to compare how the larger-smaller units compare with these effects and then maybe consider tweaking them specifically for the mini units.

Maybe you'd be interested in doing a few tests and discovering what works well for you in combining the BK shaker with the exciter.

Ok brace yourselves........tactile noob inbound ;-)

Ill preface this by saying thanks to all the amazing help and work being done in this thread....ive spent 2 days reading , googling , researching and trying to piece it all together from the golden nuggets in here ;-)

So im coming back to Sim Racing after a 10 year Hiatus (kids ! ) and wow how things have changed since Race07 ;-) Putting a complete new rig together which will be based on a Sim Lab GT1 Evo 8020 . But i want tactile feedback. I was going to just pull the trigger on a BKG2 as it seemed noob friendly but some of the things being discussed in here have whetted my appetite for better !

Ive been following @Mr Latte ' suggestions closely and his build suggestions a few pages back were a real help.....BUT , my budget to 'start' falls somewhere in the middle of the entry and semi pro...so with pieces ive picked up i tried to put a 4x1 config together for under £400. Call it an Entry Level +

My PC has 2 5.1 Creative soundcards in so im good to go there, my seat will be a hard shell bucket so thats that sorted.....Downloaded and played a bit with SimHub on my headphones ;-)

What does my option look like ? Would it work ? ( I did look at the large BK LFE , but its a bit expensive for right now with the rest of the build and they seem to be out of stock everywhere anyway )

Apologies if some of this has been covered.....this is a pretty large thread !

Hello @Mr Latte,

I saw on amazon two DAEX32U-4 :
- Dayton Audio DAEX32EP-4 Thruster (https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00Q3M8PCY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=AJX7QAHRS61RZ&psc=1)
- Dayton Audio DAEX32EP-4 Ultra (https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00Q3M8RJK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AJX7QAHRS61RZ&psc=1)

It seems to have the same spécification but what is the difference ?

Regards
There is an error in that second listing , description says 40w but the picture shows a 20w version .
