The most impressively long named Subaru in history is set to be added to iRacing in a few days time.

The WRX STI VT17x Rallycross car from Subaru will form the latest dirt focussed content to be added to the online racing simulation service this June 5th, joining a steadily increasing raft of rallycross themed cars and tracks that have been brought to the simulation over the past 12 months or so.

With Subaru one of the most successful and important brands in rally history, the WRX STI VT17x is something of a monster within the family, tuned for the very specific and rather spectacular world of rallycross racing, this is a car far removed from the era of Colin McRae and Richard Burns WRC fans of the mid 1990's might remember..

Anyone interested in getting behind the wheel won't have long to wait either, the car is set to be released as soon as this June 5th!

iRacing.com is a PC exclusive online only subscription racing simulation available through the Steam network.

Looking forward to more rallycross content in iRacing? Do you think the simulation does a good job of simulating rallycross physics? Happy to see the inclusion of a new Subaru? Let us know in the comments section below!

Looking forward to this build...subby, Porsche and belle island!

Glad to see they have rebranded the redbull global rallyX with there own IRX hopefully this will open up the door to more tracks and content down the road.

Part of the rebranding is probably because the GRC seems to have died earlier this year.

Why iRacing doesnt focus on improving the good series they have (V8,F1,GT3,Endurance) instead of trying to make content for a series that is almost already dead.... i dont understand.

Personally I love rallycross. I was always interested in maybe getting Iracing when I finally get my wheel but when I saw rallycross I was sold. I'm not even a huge rallycross fan but in games I find it incredibly enjoyable. Dirt Rally and Pcars 2 really made me want more of it. With the addition of the Subaru as well I'm really excited for when I get into Iracing

Good point. Let's hope that they can gain access to the Audi S1 and some much needed tracks. They did mention earlier in the year that a European RX track was in the offing.

It's called expanding on your product in hope to draw more customers.
Not all customers, like myself are interested in those classes that you mentioned.
So the more racing disciplines a title can reproduce the larger the potential fan base.

They are releasing the 911 GTE for IMSA which is one of the most popular series too, and releasing belle isle and bringing out the new tyre model on some cars too, so they are releasing content and improving the most popular series too.

It's difficult attempting to balance updating existing content with the introduction of new content, but I do feel that iRacing have done a good job with both as of late. However, I would agree with you that it would be nice if they could possibly update the models for the V8 supercars, with Holden having introduced their new model this season, though I guess they could be waiting until Ford introduce the Mustang next year. The handling of the V8s also doesn't feel good, though that's likely to change once the NTM is implemented.

reposting from the other thread in which the subaru is mentioned together with belle isle and porsche lgt:
" ... they apparently have rebranded their rallycross content since the real life series went belly up. iRX makes sense and logo looks good. suppose all rally x tracks and the load screens will be redone in the june5th update.
for me: one buy (belle isle) and two more cars i won't buy but which will make competition livelier/more varied when i'm on a server with either the ferrari lgt or the beetle rallyx. looking forward."

Rallycross events in general at iRacing draw very little attendance anymore, but I am sure this will give a temporary boost. I am not sure but it seems that attendance is down in general at iRacing. They really need a new tire model, but graphically they are falling behind as well.

Anyway, I was into rallycross there for a few seasons hope it gets some attendance.

I feel like with the way Iracing is I don't think normal stage rally would work

It would work well in the time trial part, but the track would need to change weekly to make things interesting. 12 weeks of time trialling a point to point race would be a little dull. Then they would need to reverse it, or add another stage..... that would take iracing a year or two.
