Great idea Pauliebhoy, and good tutorial :)

Hamann M3, and anyone else that was curious, I have used Photoshop as far back as Photoshop 5 and the procedure is pretty close to identical with a small exception. Photoshop elements, or the low cost version of Photoshop doesn't allow you access to the channels, so making an alpha channel is impossible for those who have the cheap versions.

The steps are very similar in Paintshop Pro as well, but the newer versions are closer than the older versions. For those that have gone real cheap, or just can't afford a paint program at all, look up GIMP. GIMP has the same abilities for the most part for skinning as Photoshop and is free to download and use. Similar steps can be followed in GIMP as in Photoshop or Paintshop Pro.

The key to remember in what Pauliebhoy was saying is make sure you cut out all of the background and then copy the image and paste into a new image that is the correct size of 512 X 330 to ensure that the size will be correct.

I mainly produce fantasy skins, why because they allow me more free rain over the design and general look.

Requesting a skin:-

1. Be as descriptive as possible, if you say "I want a Red car with some Black on it" you'll get a red car with some black on it, but it might not be what you imagined. If you want a specific colour let me know, there are plenty of different shades of each colour, even if you just link me to a picture of something a similar colour, if you can find the RGB code that would be better.
2. Car please states which car and year otherwise Ill just pick one at random.
3. If you want sponsor logos then link me to images or the company's website; I'm based in the UK and some company's logos will differ here and some may not even exist here. If possible find the images via: Best Brands of the World - vector logos, brand, logo, logotype, photos
4. If you want your name/tag somewhere then say where, give an idea of size or even font, if you want your real name rather than username I need to know.
5. Be critical I'm old enough to take a criticism if there's something you don't like say so it can soon be changed. I'll post a WIP shot before uploading so you can look at the car and say yes or no on its looks.
6. Once you've said the big YES I will attached a compressed file containing your skin. Once we are at this point there will be no going back so be sure be happy.

Won't to it no way, No how
:

I will not do reproductions of other skinners work; if you're that desperate ask the original skinner.
I will not put pornographic material on skins.

GTR Evolution

I will be getting this add-on but till the templates are released I can't produce anything yet.

*Please note any skin produced becomes my sole right. If I wish to release the base scheme I may without your consent.

Woking on a mini skin at the moe. I could of cheated and just used general pics of the Ritz but I decided they looked wrong on the skin so I made my own in PS.

thanx for the feedback Jim and for sharing 1st hand knowledge about other versions. And like Michael, i used the "GIMP" imaging proggie many moons ago. So i need to thank vince klortho for pointing me to it and also the GIMP community for having the patience to help me lol. along with RSC off'cos.

ps. I'll reiterate this though... Once you're happy the background and all the small stray pixels are removed, copy and paste it into a new doc 512x330...
Now don't resize the doc itself, but use the: Edit/transform/scale to resize only the car, in the new doc...
FWIW... always a good idea to save your work 1st as a .psd in case you need to edit anything. This means you don't have to repeat all the work you done for that particular car.
