GT5 GT5 Leagues - General Discussion

As I have mentioned a couple of times recently, a new official RD league for GT5 has been on the cards for a while now. With the Racing Club being handed over to the community it means that the league would be my primary focus. However, before I go to the effort of getting something like this organised, I would like to know how much interest there is within the community.

The cars / tracks the league will use will be stock content, so you will not need any DLCs. The exact dates it will run have yet to be decided, though I am looking at a start of early next year (Jan/Feb). Rounds will be run once per week at the usual time (20:00 GMT), probably on the weekends. They would involve both a practice and dedicated qualifying session, which means people will be expected to follow the rules to the letter. (If they don't, the qualifying session will not work.)

All licenced members will be welcome regardless of their experience and driving ability. However, it should be noted that there will be limited places available due to GT5's relatively small lobbies. Registration will likely be done on a first come, first served basis, though previous participation in other RD leagues may be taken into account. (eg, if your attendance was bad or you were given a lot of penalties in other leagues, you may not be accepted in the GT5 league.)

At this stage all I am looking for is how many people would be interested. If you are then please make sure you post here, because I cannot read minds! The number of people that reply to this thread will determine whether or not the league goes ahead.

Thanks guys and gals.

Nine votes then. Admittedly not as many as I'd hoped for, though I suppose it's enough to make a start. The frontpage is now in place so an article will hopefully generate a bit more interest once the league details have been finalised.

Care to tell us why?

This is an example of why it is so hard to get feedback around here. The few comments people do occasionally make have no reasoning to back them up. What can I do with that?

The decline in interest isn't due to Christmas. That was a peak period for GT5 last year, partly because it was released in mid-November but also because people were off work / school for the Christmas period.

It should also be noted that the aborted GT5 league which was due to run in June got far more interest from the RD community than the Club racing did during the same period.

To be honest, that's one thing I didn't really understand... why more interest in the league than in the club? We even had people that had never posted on the forums or raced in the club signing up. The game was still very popular back in June, the event format was pretty much identical for both club and league, the rules were very similar, and as with most of RD's leagues there was no prize for winning. The league wasn't even running a car which was universally liked. Yet the interest was greater.

My only suspicion was that people didn't trust the club to provide clean and fair racing (the stigma of being a console game), whereas a properly run league would. Perhaps that was indeed the case and will be again. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Thank you to those that took the time to vote and post, much appreciated. I think there's enough initial interest to warrant organising a league, and with a little promotion we will hopefully get a few more drivers to join us.

As stated above, we're looking at a start early next year. It'll likely be late January or early February, giving plenty of time to organise, promote, and get people signed up. Full details have yet to be decided with regards to format and calendar, but the car has been confirmed. It's fast, it's powerful, it's fun to drive and it looks the bee's knees. What is it?

Stay tuned...
