Recovery drive to the win
Donald Brugman has taken his first win of the season, despite having dropped to last after a spin in the opening laps. Black took his first points in 2nd, Rinneaho back on the podium in third after his DNF last round.
Rain was falling down at the start, still all drivers started the race on slicks. Laad got better off the line than Utzer at the start and turned in first in turn 1, but Utzer held on on the outside and retook his position in the 2nd corner. Keranen lost 3rd to Brugman on the run to turn 4, apart from that the top 10 didn't change much. In lap 3 Brugman spun off, risking too much on a track that got wetter every lap. Around lap 10 the conditions became undriveable for slicks, forcing all drivers to prepone their stops. Many pitted again only a few laps later, as they only put on intermediates which couldn't handle all the water on the track. Around lap 25 things had calmed down a bit, Utzer still leading with a massive 15s gap to Goddard in 2nd, and another 20s to teammate Martins in 3rd. Brugman was already back in 4th, as the top 2 he too put on wets at his first stop and didn't have to pit again. Keranen was 5th right behind Brugman, another 10s behind him were Black, Sigoulakis and Reed.
Utzer came in for a scheduled stop a bit before the halfway point, handing the lead to Goddard. Martins threw away 3rd, two mistakes short after another dropped him to 13th. Utzer regained the lead when Goddard pitted, however a few laps later he suffered a gearbox failure, leading the race by 30s over 2nd placed. Pitstops were happening at that time, when they all were done Brugman was in the lead, 10s ahead of Goddard and Black. Rinneaho followed another 15s down the road, behind him Said, Buurlage, Sigoulakis and Laskey.
Goddard dropped to 6th after 2 mistakes, struggling on tyres that were around 10 laps older than the rest. Last round of stops came, the top 2 didn't change. Engberink was up to 3rd, as unlike most others he didn't stop. That didn't pay off though, he struggled a lot in the last laps and dropped all the way down to 8th. Rinneaho got back to 3rd, Sigoulakis jumped from 7th to 4th, Said and Goddard were in 5th and 6th. Buurlage was running in 8th and about to pass Engberink, when his engine failed with 3 laps to go. Diehl got his place, and soon after moved up to 7th, having passed Engberink.
FIA Press Conference
@Donaldinho105: What a race, would you have expected that after the spin in lap 3?
@airutonpurosuto8912: You must be reliefed to have finally taken the first points for Ferrari, after 2 rather unfortunate races?
@TTupsi: Started from 14th, 4 pitstops, still 3rd. Any words on that?
