Wow.
Apart from Jackie Stewart we had a different champion each season since 1965.
And this year could be another one with Cevert, Watson or Andretti.

(Past champions were Peterson, Stewart, Fittipaldi, (Stewart), Rindt, G. Hill, (Stewart), Clark, von Trips, Brabham and Hulme)

Just shows how much I needed a competent driver. With guys like Stewart and worse, the disadvantage I had becomes quite clear now.

It must have only taken him a while to settle into March. Improved so much since I criticized him. Actually feels like having Clark again now

The Third Giant

Rookie Years (1965-68)

In 1963 Jackie Stewart was only a mechanic. His job was to set and repair the car of a rich driver named Barry Filer. His real racing career began when Filer proposed him to drive his car. Soon, everybody will see that the young illiterate Scottish boy was a natural racer.
Colin Chapman and Jordan Bradford first saw him at Oulton Park in 1964. They decided to monitor carefully his results and hired him as their second driver for the 1965 Season.
At that time, Lotus was nothing else than a complete back marker team, designed to finish last. However, slowly, Stewart took the team to a first podium in 1967 in France. Then a consistent 1968 season when he finished 5th with 31pts and four 3rd position.

The Lotus Legend (1969-74)

1969 was his year ! On a brand new car (the Lotus 63), Jackie became easily World Champion by 22 points ahead of his team mate, the Belgian Jacky Ickx. He did the same in 1972 and in 1974. In 6 years, the « Jackies » secured 6 titles, 3 WCC and 3 WDC.
With 3 crowns, Stewart reached Fangio and Clark, the first two giants and only drivers to ever win 3 titles in Formula One.

Late Career with March (1975-76)

Exactly like Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart ended his career with March Engineering. And like Clark, he wasn’t able to get a 4th title. Worse, he was not able to even fight for the win due to the March 751. However, during the very last race of his career, in Japan 1976, with a way better car and after a very bad year in terms of results, Jacky Stewart won. His teammate, Fittipaldi who started on pole, retired early during the race and Jacky on the first line made everything he could to stay ahead of Peterson and his RobWalker. Congratulated by all his peers, the Third Giant retired.
