F1 2011 F1 2011 reviews going live

F1 2011 The Game (Codemasters)
Not a great deal of negativity from those I've read so far, a lot focusing on the fixes F1 2010 clearly needed and the graphical/frame rate improvements.

I'm geting the impression that the improvements have been made on-track and the off-track stuff has been left wanting a little bit, which is fine with me.

Here's a few:

EDIT: VG247 have a nice little review score round-up here which they usually keep updated.

The reviews are very good, but I wish they would explain why they think that it has a steep learning curve and how you need F1 knowledge to understand the engineer. Well of course you can't get around Monaco the first time without putting the car in the wall. You have to practice, and the game gives you practice sessions so there is no excuse for not picking an engineer setup and doing a few laps. It's true it took me a while to get used to the car in my first career race, but the game makes it easy for you to get started.

Hi Guys, long time site fan, first post.

I have the game - I'm reviewing it for the Australian magazine Atomic. Received it on Friday. I've posted some pretty comprehensive first impressions on the Atomic forums, a bit more detail on the important stuff than has been popping up in reviews so far.

So here you go, enjoy.

ps. we're starting a weekly 8pm AEST Sunday night championship, any Aussie or Kiwi welcome to join, very friendly, all skill levels welcome. Watch the Atomic game forums for an announcement.

^Now that's a review we want to see!

Cheers. Issue onsale in a month, so a bit away.

Anyway, I've been posting more impressions in that thread, including just a moment ago about the AI and wet racing. I'll just paste that in here, save linking and you guys needing to trawl through some unrelated stuff, added some more for here too:

---------------

Couple more observations -

AI can be hyper-aggressive bastards. You regularly get whacked from behind - even if you're fast, and even if there's plenty of room for them to manoeuvre around you. They just go for you.

Same when you're in traffic. You could be around a couple of cars - again, plenty of room either side for them, but no, they go out of their way to bump you.

Side by side with another car, it will bump and squeeze you. I don't like any of this.

Just had a wet race, disaster for me, my race was over so I was just trucking around to get to the end, started getting lapped, fair enough, saw the blue flag, fair enough, I slowed right down. Like, doing 100 on a fast 300kph straight to let them by, but they didn't pass - instead they all bunched up behind me until I had a train of several cars, all of rolling along at 2nd gear pace.

I then realised I was on the dry racing line - the AI cars just wouldn't move to either side (wide track and PLENTY of room) to pass. So I got off the racing line and they immediately all shot past. Pretty slack programming, that.

I'm now starting to think that even in the dry the AI really don't like coming off the racing line - even if they're faster, they'll still give you a whack unless you really move aside. Not all the time... but patterns are emerging.

Though, the AI do make mistakes and can come off, that is nice to see - especially because I now hate and fear them so much. It *seems* that expected drivers are a little more aggressive - Schumacher, Hamilton. Nico appears to be more gracious. Again, haven't observed enough to really be sure about that. Petrov appears to be a bit of a rammer, too. Again, this just how it seems early on, may be that all cars share the same AI personality.

Apart from that - when a dry line does appear on a wet track it's much clearer than in 2010. Comes in progressively.

A much bigger difference between wets and inters now, too.

On the flipside, the edges of the dry line are horrible giant pixels. Really detracts from the overall polish of the rainy surface.

Did you see what I mentioned in my post? Was just wondering (seeing as its a name Im not familiar with from the 2010 section) how much 2010 experience the reviewer of 2011 would have - thats all.
Plenty. Bought F1 2010 day 1 and still playing it. Racing with all the aids off in cockpit view because I'm an enthusiast.

I see myself as an F1 specialist because its the sport that got me interested in cars and autosport. Have played every f1 game from Grand Prix 4 and up, many rfactor mods included. That's why I'm so sad about the recent turn of events. To see videos in chase cam with that fugly lemon-green racing line just beats me up every time ...

Music to my ears man. Looking forward to your review.

i am hoping that for online they might put in a lock to cockpit view as they did in dirt 2 (no idea if it was in dirt 3 as didnt buy it) but i think ill be disapointed in that department, and be playing against all these people who have legs and arms about 7 ft long so they can sit on top of the car:tongue:

as Paul says so we can choose to level the playing field, i find it funny when people complain about it not being realistic, and also complain about people having unfair advantage using aids like tc and abs then you find they drive in t-cam view whats realistic about that? and isnt it an aid being able to see round a corner you wouldnt in cockpit

A little update about the F1 2011 RD Review. Apparently the online codes (to play online) were lacking behind the physical copies. We should receive the game "this week", which coincidently is the release week anyway.

Pit lane now auto slows you for the line even if heading in at full blast. No longer need to touch brakes just before pulling in to stop overshoot and running over pitdude– also no more pit limiter button/function.

Well that says it all really...The reviewer said .and I quote.....This is a sim. NOT!!!!

If this was a sim then the pit stops would not be fully automated...this is absolute ****e.

Argh..this really makes me mad. is this just laziness on the part of the developers? Is this just something to apease the console masses out there? Also..limited control behind the safety car??? WHAT!!

Please...this is not a sim....calling it a sim is blasphemy!!

I drive GTR in cockpit view only as the view is decent, but 2010's cockpit view sux.....

Damn, Am I the only one that thinks this game is a piece of crap ? I've been an F1 enthusiast and race simer for a few years now and I have to say codemasters F1 2011 is in my opinion a piece of dog crap. Graphics even on ultra are horrendous. drivability sucks too. Even w/o assists it's way too forgiving. It will never even stand in the shadow of a game like Rfactor. Please explain to me how modders { guys who do it for the love of it and have day jobs} can do such a better job of rendering cars and the physics that's required for them to feel accurate than CMs so called professional staff. You think codemasters would have gotten the hint when a slew of mods came out just to make 2010 playable. There is nothing about this game that either looks or feels realistic. Anthony Davidson is a waste of human sperm. He couldn't drive a F1 car and apparently he's not much more useful as a tech adviser.I'm sorry I'm being so venomous but it's true. With all the resources CM has and this is what they release? I'm of the opinion they are just a bunch of greedy Bastards.

So ironic how people who have never driven an F1 car or anything even close to it complain and accuse CM of making a bad game.

LOL!! Its like Louis CK says: How quickly does CM or Ant owe you to deserve such comments?

watch this:

Just remember...NON contributing ZERO! lol!

F1 2011 is not an ultimate game...there is room for improvement, but its the best and funnest F1 game I have payed since GP4. I played only 28h of F1 2010. I started loosing interest when it was sooo twitchy upon touching kerbs. Started getting frustrating. F1 2011 fixed this and the physics just feels right. I don't know if its either waaay off or a simulator for F1 cars...but one thing is for sure... It feels good and is awesome. Heck...the graphics are as good as pre-rendered cinemas from games not even 5y ago.

If you don't like the game, just don't play it.
