To celebrate another day closer to the release of Codemasters DiRT 4 game, here is some nice footage of the Rally, Landrush and Rallycross cars in action...

With a release scheduled for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on June 9th, PlayStation Access have made live a nice little video showing off the on stage racing action from three of the new titles' included gameplay modes. The video comes in at just over 13 minutes in length and shows us some quality footage of the new Landrush mode using the big off road Trophy Trucks, side by side Rallycross racing and of course the DiRT franchise staple, traditional point to point rallying - using the modern generation Ford Fiesta WRC spec car.

You can check out the video in full below:

As can be expected from a media outlet who call themselves 'PlayStation Access', the action captured during this video has been taken from the Work in Progress PlayStation 4 version of the game and as can be expected for a WIP title, the final product is not guaranteed to look exactly like it does in the video. However with the horrendous amount of time it seemingly takes nowadays to get anything game related approved by Microsoft and Sony, one would be fairly safe in assuming the game is pretty much in a complete state now and nearing readiness for shipment to stores worldwide.

So far so good from Codemasters, this could well be one of the most impressive rally games released on console or PC since the incredible Richard Burns Rally made it's debut all the way back in 2004.

We have reported on a number of detailed previews concerning some of the new features due to be included in DiRT Rally in recent weeks, so if you need to catch yourself up then check out the 'Your Stage' preview article HERE, or have a look at the substantial Paul Coleman Q&A responses HERE. Since we can't judge the feel of the game with a video (especially when there are aids turned on), lets focus on what we can judge;
  • Stage look good, I for one cant tell if it is a "Your stage" or a normal handmade stage, which is great. Road is a bit wide, but not like DiRT 3 where the road was like a highway.
  • Co-driver is fluent, good tempo and easy to listen to, so no problem there
  • Sounds is as good as in DiRT Rally, which also is great, really liked the sound in the Landrush start, where it goes from a engines running to engines screaming
  • AI seams a bit easy in RX, but we don't know if this is at 100% AI or 50% AI strength.
  • To me it looks good, I think it is the bit-rate of the video that makes it look so blurry in the forest.
  • Whoever is driving needs some practice :p
Overall, looks like good fun, and I think it will be a pretty good game by the looks of it and what sim-racers have said about the handling.

As it's based on the physics we had in DR but with tweaks and improvements I see no reason to be worried the handling is dumbed down at all. That's why the "gamer mode" is there, to appeal to the more casual players out there.

Will it look like Horizon 3? Nope, but it will still look better than DR which I'm perfectly fine with. The lightning looks much improved.
I think Wales in the sun looks extremely nice! :)

Damn there is truly nothing but moaning in the sim racing community.

If you thought Dirt Rally was absolutely arcade, yes you will probably still feel the same way. If you liked DR you will probably enjoy this one.

I for one think the lightning is much better than DR.
The setups now feature true to life values which is also nice.
Dirt Rally very different with this Game
physics on this video same as dirt 2&3
playing dirt 2 with keyboard or gamepad is much easier than playing with steering wheel because it's design to playing with Gamepad! then... add FFB for steering wheels
Simracing Game desing For wheels
I think Codemasters and even Slightly Mad Studio policy on happiness both side of players
one side simracers and other side is arcade gamers
concolusion of this policy we have Simrace+Arcade Result "Simcade"
that means more money for company

Maybe check your facts? No?

There are two options for handling. Simulation and Gamer.

Simulation uses the same physics model as DR with improvements to things that was wonky in DR, like aero.
Gamer is based on the the same model but with added assists that will help new players.

Wha... :O_o: Dirt2/3 has tighter FF :)B for you than AMS?!?! You must be doing things soooo wrong my friend, lol. :D

i agree mostly - Dirt 3 and ESPECIALLY Dirt 2 FFB is too bad and games are very fun for me, BUT AMS and other SIMS have WAY better, much tighter and responsive, (ya know what the car is doing) FFB for me, It's not even close.

So ya, something must be done wrong :)

Whoops - i meant - Dirt FFB is not too bad! :)

My simple musings after watching the video:

1. I race with no HUD in DR and seeing all that HUD is damn distracting.
2. Co-drivers sound a little too relaxed, like they aren't in the car with us, but talking over a radio or something.
3. I LOVE the "stop by marshal" thing after a rally. Muh immersion!
4. I HATE the "lets do this/lets ride" radio chatter before a race starts.
5. I wonder if the RDRC will be played on Dirt 4 or Dirt Rally.

Nothing stops you from using no HUD :)

Yes the co-driver won't feel as authentic as in DR, as the calls are stitched together unlike Dirt Rally when Paul Coleman sat in the d-box and recorded the notes stage by stage. Due to the stage generator that's impossible this time.

At least there's Nicky Grist :)

But definitely AMS FFB is by far one of the (if not the) best out there right out of the box. Increase minimal force, put effects on low. Pure FFB 360hz (or however it's called) and have fun!

Are you saying that increasing minimal force changes the wheel rotation? Or just that is what you do? For me, I was having to turn the wheel like 720 degrees at times to make a hairpin turn.

This looks good. For me, Dirt 3 was a very fun (GAME) to play, is the reason for me to buy my g27 few years ago. I think they nailed the multiplayer mode.. Sometimes you want to get out of the casual and these silly modes like Cat'n'mouse are so much fun, u have no idea... I liked DR a lot, but i think i have less than 200 hours on steam, it gets boring after time and I had a lot of issues to get my wheel settings right. So, if they bring DR physics with Dirt 3 features, is going to be a insta buy! Just sad that Codemasters will never provide us triple monitor support!

No, it just helps with deadzone in the center.

Wheel rotation depends in each car. The game adjusts that automatically unless you disable it and choose the degrees you like (which can easily be done too, but I don't recommend it because it will change the FFB feeling for cars that have different degrees than the value you chose)

Check between 7:30 and 8:00 ;)

To be fair I think that's a misunderstanding. Yes, you can use triple screen on PC but side monitors will be stretched and misaligned.
True support won't be there at launch according to Paul Coleman.

On another note the guy in the video states that tarmac is a huge step up from DR which is welcome. That was DR biggest flaw.

Yeah, you're right. To clarify this, i asked Paul Coleman about proper triple-screen support, on Oficial Codies Forums, for DiRT 4, and he said:

" Nothing special is planned. Usually we have GFX companies that help us implement new tech but no deals have been struck so if it happens it will need to come later. "

Edit: ... and more Footage is out.
