Codemasters have been making trailers again... this time showing off the official F1 2018 gameplay video in all its glory...

Just under one month to go and then it is release time for the next official Formula One game from Codemasters, and to help gather up some hype and excitement for the next title Codemasters have put together a new trailer... the first official gameplay video showcasing what's new and exciting in F1 2018.

Coming in at just over two minutes in length the latest trailer isn't exactly short either, and does a very nice job of showcasing what looks very much like a new game worthy of the official Formula One licence..

Of course no new information about F1 2018 would be complete without some words from F1 2018 Game Director Lee Mather, which can be seen reprinted below:

“The Career mode is the central point of the game and has been greatly expanded with the inclusion of pressurised press interviews that will directly affect your path through the sport. There is also far more flexibility for the player, including the ability to select your own rival and negotiate team moves during the season. The Career mode also expands the player’s research and development options, with each F1® team now having its own unique technology tree with differing strengths and weaknesses. What’s more, F1® 2018’s Career will also feature significant rule changes between seasons during the Career for the first time.

“The game’s handling has also been reworked using real world F1® data to give us new suspension and chassis physics, as well as the introduction of manually deployed ERS. This all means that the cars feel great to drive and you can really feel the difference between the modern cars and the 20 classics there are in the game. There is a huge contrast between the low aero, low grip cars from the 1970s compared to the 2018 cars.”

Formula One 2018 is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC August 24th 2018.

- Banking in the Monaco tunnel isn't even that bad
- Ever thought they can't license the official graphics?
- The pit animation is fine
- As if you're complaining about the halo, it's on the real cars, so it has to be in game too
- Not sure I understand this, but it's modelled perfectly, what else do you want?
- There's an option to disable the centre pillar, turning it off completely wouldn't bode well with the FIA
- I'm pretty sure the teams don't want their official steering wheel screens on the game
- Also pretty sure people don't want 11 engine modes in the game, it's meant to be accessible, and also again, I don't think the teams want to give this much information away
- Don't use the gimmicks then?
- Engine sounds are taken from the real cars, they might not sound 100% realistic, but they're closer than most games/sims are
- Sponsors don't want to see their brands trashed with loads of damage, so not much Codies can do about it.
All in all it feels like you're just complaining for the sake of it. Go buy a puppy and cheer up.
-The banking in the tunnel is not realistic at all
- F1 Championship Edition (2006) had the official graphics
- The pit animation looks fixed and unrealistic, in rFactor (2005) you can put the speed limiter and pit by yourself
- The W08 has its real screen in GT Sport
- They spend time in the gimmicks instead of focusing of the driving
- Sponsors don't want to see that surely, but in F1 06 (2006) the rear wing could be destroyed
I'm "complaining" because in 2018 you can do much more than that. Look at iRacing, rFactor 2, RaceRoom or Assetto Corsa (and AC Competizione).

- The banking is not completely unrealistic. And even then it looks much worse than it is actually in game
- F1 Champioship Edition came out 12 years ago, under different F1 management, and the game was created by a different studio
- Again, the pit animation looks fine, all the crew do their jobs just the same in the game as they do in real life, how are you even complaining about this EDIT: You can put the speed limiter on in F1 2017 (and 18), you just can't drive through yourself. Not a massive deal for a CASUAL game.
- The GT Sport steering wheel isn't even 100% accurate. Besides, F1 2018 is an arcade game, and switching between multiple screens would make for confusing gameplay for those casual players who chose to use the cockpit camera instead of having the simple, useful display they use currently.
- They're spending plenty of time on the physics as well as the gimmicks. They're using much improved suspension and chassis physics, which I can personally say are much better having played the game myself
- Rear wings could come off in F1 CE for the same reason front wings come off now, because they could be replaced mid-race
There's only so much they can do in 1 year, and they're doing a lot considering so. They've already made huge leaps from 16 -> 17 -> 18, so I'm sorry they can't make the perfect game with a year's development cycle. You're comparing this game to the likes of iRacing, rF2, ACC etc when they've got much longer development cycles, and they cater to a completely different audience. You're embarrassing yourself mate.

Remember GP4 (2002)? You could go into the pits by yourself, and the pit animation was more realistic. What a shame, for a 2018 game: just look how the car moves when it goes into the pits. It's always the same fixed animation.

Being the dumb collector I am I’ll pick it up, probably at discount pre-release (or maybe not that fast).

They added a lot of weight, the rpg part and imo that is an awfull waste of HDD space. I really don’t give a toss about all that make believe F1 career stuff. OTOH many of the boys and girls will prbably love all that, right up their cosplay alley.

The game itself, well the visuals, including haze, are visually interesting, but to me what teally stands out is the experience from the cockpit and we can now have a wonderfull halo to remove even more of the world. So how much world view is left from the cockpit?

Yes, the halo can be tweaked, yadayada, but I hate it even more in the game than in RL.

...I might stick to the classic content instead - without classic tracks (?)

the graphics looks insane. I'm really impressed.

Yep, the shot off the starting grid, with the heatshimmer and blur of the rearward cars - I had to check twice if that was TV footage.

After the third or fourth version I was sad that Codie extended the contract, but by now they have built a really deep game (off-track) and I guess the driving is half decent too.

I'll buy it. I have bought every other F1 game ever made on PC 9and CE on playstation, so I might as well. But I will wait a few weeks. Last year I got F1 2017 from CD Keys for 15 quid a few weeks after launch. Hopefully I will do the same this year. No rush, life goes on.

I dont get fooled anymore. Apart from slow motion scenes the game looks very arcade and the atmosphere looks too dirty on TV camera.
Too much color saturation in cockpit view and poor contrast on external views of the car.
I like the detail of the front wing bouncing though, but that's all I see as an improvement so far.

Shame that there is no VR support, i would've really liked the game...
Yeah. I've just gone VR. There is NO comparison and no going back. Staring at a screen or feeling like you're sat in the car? I've just ditched F1 2017 from my PC because of it. I'm enjoying Assetto Corsa, it's great but needs more input from me to refine the driving experience, but the driving model in iRacing is really pumping my nads at the moment, it's fantastic. Can't understand why Codemasters haven't added VR support. Perhaps they'll do something in Steam VR eventually? To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement.
