Because you have a E6600 @ 3.3ghz might not be worth jumping to another dual but going quad instead, E6600 @ 3.3ghz is still fast.

But for £160 best you can really get is E8400 and you could hit 4Ghz with it.

Best quad with good OC'ing would be any of these but will cost you bit more:

The 9550 is a very popular chip, allot of guys been hitting 4ghz + with those.

What cooler you using?

Review of Q9400:

For money you want to spend 9400 would be good pick, but if you can push to the 9550...

Ouch the quad cores are not cheap but the first one seems good

is that a gud one?

It's a good one yes, but the new batch don't overclock that well, most will only hit 3.2ghz...

The old batch of Q6600 you could hit 3.6ghz + np, but the new ones are not good for those speeds, ( it's been reported all over net and know couple of guys with them to even the GO stepping)

A need a newer gen quad would be better maybe which you can for sure hit 3.6ghz + , and use less power, produce less heat, faster overall clock for clock then a Q6600 for example, more future proof and a bigger upgrade overall

As you can see on the Image, an overclocked Q9400 will be around same speed as a Core i7 ( Intels latest quads )

Ye it's another good one, am not sure how good the latest batch are on the Q6700, be good to look around on google, as certain batches overclock better then others. There's not that much difference with it compared to a Q6600 overall if your going to overclock but you might get a better batch version, it's all confussing with the different bathes / steppings anyway.

Just about the steppings really, Q6700 are go's so will clock well, but . B= Best A=Average F=crap. This is a general idea of how well your cpu will do but it does not guarantee anything.

Hope I helped anyway and not confussed things lol

According to sum reviews on overclockers about the Q6700 it overclocks up to 3.4ghz no probs and runs cooler than the Q6600

Go for it then!

You should be able to hit higher then 3.4 though if you got good stepping version ( B being best ) but shouldn't be able to go wrong.

Hmm I see £400
Let's see what i would get (In a Dutch store that is)..

£400 is about €440

Well:
CPU: Intel C2D E7300
MOBO: MSI P43 NEO-F
MEM: OCZ PC6400 2x2GB CL5
GFX: Sapphire Radeon HD4770 512MB
PSU: OCZ StealthXtream 500W
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 12 500GB
CASE: ASUS TA-863

Total price: €440.26

To say: ATi HD4770 is just a little bit less to HD4850, but €30 cheaper here..

Ye 650W is plenty, even will handle some SLI configurations depending on what PSU it is.

I don't know if Scan will ship to Ireland or not, might be best to give them a call.
