RaceRoom is a free-to-play racing simulator, and here are the included cars and tracks when you install the game.

This is a peak time of year for people joining the world of sim racing. November and December will bring an influx of new players sitting down behind their first wheel and pedal set and wondering where to spend their money on games.

A perfect means of trying sim racing without overspending is RaceRoom Racing Experience. This is a free racing simulator available through Steam. It includes the cars and tracks listed below, and additional content can be purchased a la carte. The free content in RaceRoom can be used in both online multi player mode and single player mode including practice if you're not yet ready to race.

The total amount of content available in RaceRoom including the paid content is massive, but the free content includes a solid variety of car classes and racing circuits. The free cars include multiple tin-tops, Le Mans-inspired prototypes from two classes, an entry-level open wheeler, and even a screaming hillclimb car. Still can't get behind the pay model in this and iRacing. I don't even want to start playing it because it seems a bit pointless when I'll be cut off from so much of the content.
You can't compare R3E to iracing. In iracing, you'll pay more for one car than you will for a pack in R3E.
Take the ADAC GT Masters 2020 as an example. The pack cost £12.68 but will be less if you buy using VRP and the pack includes 7 different car manufactures. You'll pay the same in iracing for a single car.
If you time it right and buy using VRP, you can get all of the content in R3E for less than you'll pay for AMS2 and it's various DLC's.The same goes for ACC.
Yes AMS2 has more cars included in the base game but lets be honest, a lot of them are not very good to drive.
It would be nice if at some point the ability to use custom skins in R3E was possible rather than having to purchase generic skins.
This of course is just my opinion.

iRacing has huge success as you can see in the graphic. Back in 2015 when i started i think there were around 3-4k Members. It may cost more than other sims but they deliver constantly and it pays off.

And without Mods and strong mod community members AC would be long gone from that graphic ^^

It used to be my go to game because of the sounds and FFB, but now that ACC has updated, I tend to go there first.

When R3E first hit I thought the business model was an atrocity.

Over the years I've changed my mind and and think it's the best business model out there.
If you purchase content during sales you can get a massive amount of content for about the same cost other sims' base game plus a few DLCs.
No need to buy every car in a class -- just buy the one car you want to drive. Bonus points that you're not locked out of servers because you don't own the other cars in the class.
And you're not paying for a bunch of content you won't use. I think this might be the only game in my library which doesn't have any boring GT3 cars :p

The FFB/physics connection has been a bumpy road (pun intended :) ), but I've been quite happy since the FFB model rework last year.

The sound is immersive AF and I actually prefer the R3E graphics to the shiny, oversaturated graphics of other modern sims.

If you're into older cars and drive with an h-pattern shifter, there is no other sim in the market today that emulates clutch and transmission feel as well. THAT'S what keeps me coming back to R3E. An old American V8 on any track equals hours of fun for me.

Best track and car selection, best sound, best textures, best car setup experience (previous value, default value, current value), and the new FFB on certain cars is top notch. Their online experience is also rapidly increasing... Whenever they upgrade their graphics, it will be truly amazing.

Two different pay models. I get to use all my RRRE content that I've paid for. At reasonable prices. I'll dig up the analysis I did when buying Watkins Glen through both services. One cost $12 for an outdated version and the other cost under $2. And most importantly, one of those I can no longer access because I refuse to pay their $10 monthly charge to keep their multiplayer servers running...

RRRE is truly DLC and not a lease.

If you want to race online, it's really no different than iRacing.
Asides from racing online thats about it :)

The two are quit different.
Raceroom just throws together combos and changes them every week.

The ranking is pretty weak and is more or less just a number that allows you into certain servers....which honestly isint too difficult to gain access to. Months ago I did 4-5 clean races and raised my rank enough to open all servers.
It doesn't group players of equal splits so you get a group of aliens mixed in with rookies...which after laps the majority of rookies leave...leaving the average mid fielders driving by themselves.

Iracing has servers for every current vehicle in the service, 24/7 practice servers, a class license and division, 12 week schedule posted before the season, multiple world wide server locations, season point tracking and each race the system groups players similar skilled players...sometimes if there isn't enough players for multiple splits it groups them in one race.
You also get credits back at the end of the season for completing 8 of 12 races. Up to $40 a yr.

I'm a little chaffed regarding the Raceroom servers too. Months ago they had multiple north American servers east/west which was great for me living in the west.
They have eliminated that and grouped north America and south America together....cause Canadians and Brazilians have great connections between us lol
North American servers are a ghost town these days and when I try to join a euro server I get a ping of 150+.

I've put alot into Raceroom since 2011 and had lots of hope for this title but after all this time I feel it's run it's course and become quit stagnant compared to the rest. Sector3 need to switch to a new engine or hanker down and create some new code for this engine.
Game features still lack in comparison to Race 07
Nearly 2022 and it's the only sim without dx11 or newer, day to night transition or track technology.

In fairness they did a good job converting a title meant to be for hot lapping and bridging the gap between arcade and simulation for newcomers into a decent racing title.

As a long time user of Raceroom this is true, but also false depending on when you got into the title.

If you've just recently jumped into to Raceroom, yes you can aquire the Premium pack on sale which gives you all the current content for cheaper than most other titles.

If like me, you used your 1 time Premium purchase yrs ago and have been paying for new content ever since....it does start to add up, I've easily spent a few hundred dollars since 2011.

It would be nice if Sector3 reset the premium purchase plan every few yrs or gave a nice discount on new content for premium buyers.

Yes for now :)

Has Sector3 confirmed that they will make a offline mode to give you access to your content if they ever shut the doors?
That's a legit question and i fear the answer might be "no", since doing an offline mode could open the doors to some crack that gets you all the content for free.
But i also suppose this won't really be a problem since even if they'll close MP servers at some point in the future, keeping the verification server online would most likely be a very minor cost for the company.

EDIT: from comments below - they will make it work offline

They usually have a big December update a few days before Christmas. Last year it was released on the 22nd (with 5 new cars and 2 tracks along other updates and fixes), so they are probably just ramping up for that.
Assen is planned for release. When? Who knows, but probably "soon", hopefully part of a December update.

iR has the most current version of Watkins Glen of all the sims. You should really renew your membership and try it out
