Watch: OverTake's F1 23 Controller Settings Guide

Racing games and simulations are usually best played with a wheel and pedal setup - it is in their nature, after all. However, not all racers have the space, funds or both to go for a full setup, so they have to rely on their trusty controllers. F1 23 did not forget these players - and neither did OverTake: Check out their video on the best controller settings for the most recent Formula One game.

Racing on a gamepad can be extremely tricky: While analog triggers make controlling the throttle and brake much easier than years ago when players had to settle either for buttons or a second analog stick, steering is still hit and miss in many titles, especially due to the lack of direct feedback. This makes it difficult to make small adjustments or catch slides.

Precision Drive Helps Pad Players

To combat this problem, EA Sports has introduced Precision Drive specifically for controller players in F1 23: The system aims to increase the amount of control drivers have on a pad - and it works quite well, as we found out in a test run at Imola in the game's preview version. Instead of struggling to precisely hitting apexes, Precision Drive makes it possible to run consistently even on a pad, we found.

Still, some controller settings could use some tweaking out of the box, as Marvin Miller explains. And it does not even have to take long: His recommended settings do not even need five minutes to be explained - so you can get back out on track and try them for yourselves more quickly.

Your Thoughts

I don't play on gamepad but is there still the awful delay when quickly turning from left to right and vice versa ? When i tested F1 22 gamepad controls out of curiousity that was an instant nope and back to driving on a wheel that doesn't have that problem.

Wanted to play coop career with my brother and he is on gamepad and i would not want his experience to be abysmal with the steering delay.

Sorry, can't tell. F1 22 never was able to detect and properly configure my many years old TM Base TX + Ferrari wheel (the first one, without LCD) + T3PA Pro
Got a refund
No regret, soooooo console.
