Thrustmaster is the latest sim racing hardware manufacturer to launch their mobile companion app. My Thrustmaster is designed to allow users to fine-tune details of their simulator experience via their phone.

My Thrustmaster: Compatible Wheelbases

Thrustmaster have included a variety of their currently supported and former wheelbases in the My Thrustmaster app compatibility list. The following bases will work with the app:

  • T818 (Direct Drive)
  • T GT II
  • TS-XW & TS-PC
  • T300 Series
  • TX, TMX, T-LCM, T248, T128 and the T150.
Whilst the app is only PC compatible at release, Thrustmaster does not want it to stay this way, stating they describe the “big plans” they have for updates in the future. Until then, console players will have to wait patiently.

Fine Tuning

To start tuning, download the My Thrustmaster plugin on your PC and pair your app to your wheelbase. The PC plugin is very similar to the mobile app and they work alongside each other in harmony in our experience so far.

Fine-Tune-Settings.png

Settings to adjust include the overall force feedback, the ability to lock the rotation at whatever degree best suites your racing style, as well as the dampening and the gain (If applicable to your wheel base).

Settings Profiles

Inside the app, you can assign separate Force Feedback profiles depending on which discipline of racing you prefer. For example, you can create a profile for open wheel racing, and a separate profile for rally.

Thrustmaster will expand upon this concept of profiles in the future, with many updates still to come. However, you can currently have multiple wheel bases set up on the app. The potential for large LAN incorporation with the profiles feature especially is also interesting for the future of the app.

Simulation Inputs

Similar to software you would expect to find on a PC program companion, My Thrustmaster allows the user to view their wheel inputs from their phone in real time. What’s more is that you can assign buttons from the app and then see their consequent output.

Viewing the wheel and pedal inputs on your phone is unique. The status quo within ‘companion software’ is to just be a program you run in the background on your PC. However, could the utilization of mobile hardware potentially be the start of a new trend?

Cool, thrustmaster launching another "fancy" app in their own style... just installed it to give it a try and it closes itself when you try to run it, tried in my phone and tablet with same behaviour.
Maybe they fix it after a few months or years or never, or maybe not cos i still having issues each time i try to update my pimax headset firmware cos the thrustmaster firmware updater wanna be the boss of some ways of updating firmwares so you need to move it away each time you want to update something else ( i learned the hard way the very first time i try to update my pimax and getting a soft brick on it...).

Anyway i dont care too much anymore, since im waiting for a csl dd i ordered a week ago :D.

In any case this maybe are good news for existing thrustmasters users and they start to move into a new software ecosystem for their devices that work... or maybe they keep doing the same but with fancy interfaces.

Regards.

I just had a quick look at the MyThrustmasterPC.exe file. From the strings inside, it looks like some kind of telemetry functionality (for the F1 games?) is included/planned:

And what is going to happen after the first wheels that support this get obsolete?, are they going to update the app to support newer android versions, or are they going to try to force us to purchase a new wheel?. I'm OK with them adding features like this, but this is not my first rodeo with big corporations, I trust no corporation.

I fear this becoming a thing, to then they removing advanced features from the pc configuration application and later remove the PC wheel configuration application completely, and after some time make the phone app a subscription.

I hate subscriptions. Youtube was free at first, then they added adds, then they created a premium subscription and increased the amount of adds by a lot, now they are trying to ban adblockers in order to force people to pay the subscription.

That's how corporations do the frog in the pot strategy over and over again, and people fall for it time after time. That's what I fear every time that corporations introduce this kind of features. I hope that at the end of this we don't end up boiled alive like the frog.

OK I observe one of my wheels included.
Is this to be understood as to ease wheel controller setting changes from in-game?
It's been +15 years since I tried last time (via ALT+TAB switch to wheel controller PC software) and that didn't work well, had to restart game to get FFB back.
Fine tuning the wheel ingame in thrustmaster software has been impossible for years (I even don't know whether it had been possible in the past). And still no profile management. Logitech has been doing that for at least 20 years. I am really (badly) surprised by this "modern" move as the pc software is still in a prehistoric state. Ingame fine tuning with the phone but not in the base software by alt tab, seriously?

These are different points.
About an old wheel not supported anymore by a new version of the app, that's exactly the same with PC drivers. Why should it be different? You'll stick with a previous version.

The compatibility of the app with an old phone is more a concern, you will probably change your phone 5 times before you have to change your wheel (probably because it won't be support by new games, not bec1use of the drivers or app).

Your concerns are a bit paranoical, why would these companies suppress the windows tuning features? Why would they make you pay for an companion app? There will always be another company which won't do that. Making those moves would just be suicidal. You should not give yourself such concerns and headaches, there are enough real concerns in real life. ;)

Restart didn't work for me . I get as far as seeing my wheel but it says it's not connected which of course it is.. wouldn't it be great if something would just work without a bunch of hu ha. I click on it to connect but no happiness there either says to turn wifi on which of course it is uuuuuhhhhh :(

Every time the app starts, I get the "can't redirect to logs.txt" error and I can't connect to the wheel, very nice
