Low Fuel Motorsport Drops rFactor 2 Support

A little over a year since the ranked sim racing platform launched rFactor 2 services, they are now shuttered.

You can no longer race with rFactor 2 on Low Fuel Motorsport, as of Friday 22nd December the service has shuttered its support.

Boris Schalk’s LFM is an independent platform that has created its own ranking system, providing close and competitive racing for titles without such native matchmaking features. A combination of classes (starting in rookie) Elo rating and safety rating determine who you race against.

Predominantly known for its support of Assetto Corsa Competizione, it added rFactor 2 in October 2022.

Back then, the Studio 397-created PC simulation required you to own all the DLC used on a server, however, this requirement was removed in February 2023.

“It has been a wild ride in 2023 with rFactor 2 on our platform,” reads the LFM statement.

“At the beginning, we had full servers, a pretty good working NLS Series and tons of fun with all of you guys.

“Unfortunately, the popularity of our rFactor 2 service has decreased a lot until the end of this year. The manpower, resources and of course, money we would have to invest to keep it running for just a few people enjoying it is just too much. The decision was not easy, but we had to decide where we needed our limited resources the most.

“For this reason, we decided to shut down our rFactor 2 service at the end of the season. We want to thank you everybody for the time you spent here, for the races you did, and for the fun you had here!”

We thought LFM provided a fresh impetus to fire up rFactor 2, especially with its varied selection of cars and tracks, some of which were rarely seen elsewhere.

rFactor 2 Online Pushes Ahead

In October, Motorsport Games launched its RaceControl system, debuting as rFactor 2 Online. This brought a direct ranked multiplayer system, with daily races, special events, server hosting, safety ratings, driver ratings and stats.

According to Steam Charts, the venerable title nearly reached all-time high player numbers soon after the feature’s launch in November 2023.

Meanwhile, LFM launched its service for the original Assetto Corsa earlier this month, a platform that continues to be popular on PC thanks partly to a strong modding scene.

Good thing we still do rF2 then. Even a free-to-race Christmas Special! :D

Clearly there's not enough in the series to keep it going over the long term, it gets boring too quickly!

In my opinion, this seems due to the success of RF2’s online system now?

Every online race I’ve done on RF2 the past few weeks has been full, I haven’t used LFM since tbh. RF2’s driver rating & safety rating can always be tweaked, but it works pretty damn well.

I’m sure LFM will be a good fit for AC though.

Agreed

I thought it was a drop in interest, instead I saw that the integrated system has enough users to guarantee lively competitions

Like the saying goes, "if you dont have anything good to say..." maybe try to abide to that next time ;)

So as to not hurt kids and their favorite toys? Do grow up, if you can't take an opposing opinion. Rf2 does have something dumpable about it after all the effort and licensing and it takes something to admit it after getting almost all the dlcs. Then again Raceroom ranks higher in the most played racing games on Steam.

I am sure your house has mirrors. Try looking at one. Yours was not an "opposing view", specially when you insist on repeating it in every rf2 thread.

LFM isn't needed with rF2 online...

MSGS does cause a lot of hate as this thread shows, but rF2 is still better than a lot of other choices on the market...

No surprise as said earlier, and offering AC now is even better in my opinion. I've really enjoyed the AC races and the servers seem well populated.

I confirm, rf2, raceroom, Acc or iRacing, the rest doesn't matter ;)

The rest are just for the 10 mins on defaults atm... Although I have been impressed by Rennsports latest offering it still fits that crowd...

Raceroom needs better MP and a DX12 upgrade, but damn has it come a long way since I last played it...

If we could mix Racerooms physics with the rest of ACC that would be awesome...

I would like to say a big thank you to Low Fuel Motorsport. I started there with ACC and immediately switched to rFactor2 when it was offered. I uninstalled ACC immediately afterwards. LFM has definitely saved rF2. Without LFM, the "marketing geniuses" from Studio397 would have been long gone.

I wish LFM continued success in the future.
AC was brilliant, but today the driving physics are simply more important to me.
It's a pity that Automobilista 2 didn't find its way to LFM, that would be a dream!
If I'm right, this great simulation is still missing a racing control system.

rF2 ranked system works really great

the problem with it compared to LFM is that they can't use workshop mods so the content is very limited sadly, especially the tracks ofc because people mostly used the official cars but there is many many mods that were in rotation like Road America or Watkins Glen and many more high quality tracks that aren't in the official game
