IOM TT 3: Ride on the Edge Open World Map Emerges

As Nacon released a new teaser video for its upcoming TT Ride on the Edge game, the title's open world map also emerged onto the internet this weekend. Keeping focus on the Isle of Man, this game is sure to revolutionise the franchise.

With the recently announced release date of TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 3 getting closer, a select few were able to visit the Raceward Studios office in Milan for a preview. Whilst new game footage is interesting, as is the latest teaser trailer released by Nacon over the weekend, the most exciting information of the week has to be shots of the open world map.

With the third iteration of the Ride on the Edge franchise very much a case of revolution rather than evolution, this "Open Roads" mode is set to be a centre point in the game. This will certainly change from the second game in the series in which the exploration mode seemed to be an after thought.

A holiday on the Isle of Man

In the real world, attending the Isle of Man TT typically means one spends a solid two weeks stuck on the island in the middle of the Irish Sea. Getting off the isle requires either a long boat journey or an expensive plane ticket, so racing fans traditionally set up camp and spend a fortnight exploring the surrounding area.

This is the same vibe gamers will experience in Ride on the Edge 3. In previous games, the free roam mode was oddly set in Ireland, but that will all change. The "Open Roads" mode in which players have free reign over countless Manx roads allows them to explore the island and discover new events, challenges and locations.

Yes, this game's free roam mode puts you on the Isle of Man with the entire TT course and many of its service roads to explore. Have you ever fancied going straight on at Ballacraine instead of sweeping right? You can do that and continue on to the fishing town of Peel. Ever wondered what it's like going round the mountain and following the coast? Ride on the Edge 3 allows you to try. Even the streets of Ramsey, at the North of the course, and Douglas, by the start line, are opened up for racing fans to explore.

Unlike previous titles, the map won't be an empty expanse to ride around. In Ride on the Edge 3, the "Open Roads" mode is where players will activate various events. It's also here that they can learn the TT course before attending the qualifying events required to enter the TT. Challenges and quick races will also be available to enter from the free roam map.

Think of this latest game then as an adaptation of the Forza Horizon recipe. Except it's with bikes. And it takes place on a rock in the middle of a very un-tropical sea. And it is certainly catered to fans of a specific niche in the motorsport world. That being said, you most definitely don't need to be a fan of the TT to get excited by this game. It may focus on the infamous Manx event, but fans of racing in general are sure to gravitate towards this upcoming title.

What do you make of this more central approach to the TT game's open world mode?

Haven't tried any of these games but I would like to get a decent bike game. Just for clarifiaction the "open world" is only the few roads that are yellow-orange on the map or the whole island? And is there any info whether open world will be like free roaming alone on the map or will there be any "life", like traffic, etc.? And am I correct that it's the same tech under the MotoGP series, Ride 4, Superbike and TT? If yes, are there any significant differences in handling, gameplay experience beyond the different setting?

All I hope for is that they have fixed the sudden lose it and crash physics.
As for the open world map, what's the point of it? You can't ride those roads on a racebike in real life. Are they now going to give you a road bike and will there be other traffic?

They give a free open world like in the previous game and you cry ? Nobody force you to use it.
And look at the gameplay, how the bikes move is close to MotoGP/Ride...no more arcadey like the previous game, thanks to RIMS

I'm pretty sure it's like the previous game
The only issue is we can't use it on multiplayer

Question: Are there other trafic (cars/MCs) on the socalled open world roads?

EDIT: Just watched the video. And to answer my own question then it could be fun if there was a possibility to enable other trafic.
Like Enable granny and mummy drivers: Yes/No.
And/or enable some sporty MC guy riders: Yes/No.
Would you also want to include some Hells Angels gangs: Yes/No :roflmao:

I tried part 2 in VR on a huge - a real huge - cinema screen. That elevated the title on a new level.

I do the same with Wreckfest. Its Wreckfest 2.0 since then.

is it me or does it look like a rather large step DOWN graphically from the first 2 games?

I also don't understand
looks quite nice to me
it's a massive improvement over the previous game, they only cry and complain and never played the two others games
I'm a massive player of Ride 4/MotoGP, and I can say TT3 will be mine day one.

If you play without assist, and want to make a good lap without crash, I say you need at least 80hours or 100hours in the game. And at least 500hours if you want to be in the top 10

Ride 4 is like the GT of Bike games :D soild game too

You must not remember the first game that well, this is a big step forward visually, especially the rider model.
I played the first game loads and it was stunning, one of the most photo realistic bike games. The background in this clip looks awful and washed out, also seeing loads of pop in. Yeah the close up stuff is as good and better rider animations but to be honest that's not where you're looking at that part of the game (unless you want to crash).

seriously how is it "massive"? I played the first game loads despite the dodgy physics (Didn't feel the 2nd had enough over the first to warrant a buy until recently and waiting for my bars to play it). Played Ride, Ride 2, Ride 3 to death, played MGP15, VR46 the game to death (got MGP 21 but not put much time into it waiting for bars), I have 1000's and 1000's of hours in those games. And what has placement got to do with an opinion on graphics? SO only those in the top 10 can comment now? Eliteist much?

also how the feck is it "cry and complain"......I just watched a vid of IOMTT2 over the mountain section and apart from the rider is head and shoulders better than the clip of IOMTT3...."massive improvement" my arse.

I just can't get on with bike games, they always seem too easy with assists on and too difficult with them off. I love bikes but tend to stick with 4 wheels for games.

But if they add road bikes I will buy it...been waiting for a 2 wheeled Forza game and this might be the closest until Forza decided to add bikes

2 wheeled Forza games exist...Ride series. Or do you mean "forza Horizons open world style"?

Stop saying people are crying. It's trolling at its best. You haven't even played this latest version yet. So you really cannot comment.

Wasn't impressed with the first one, It didn't represent riding a motorbike in any enjoyable or believable way. Bit of an odd situation as the game would likely appeal to motorcycle riders who would instantly know it was a bit crap.

At this stage it would take VR to get me interested.

you are not enough experienced (with TT games) to see the massive improvement, immediately I see the RIMS upgrade over TT isle of man 2....you know RIMS, isnt it ? the developpers are no more KYLOTONN but RACEWARD STUDIO...

there isn"t any lose it and crash physics in TT2, get good, it's the opposite, we have resquested more hard physics to lose the control of the bike, particulary with throttle input, cause it was too much simple on rail, and it what we will have....better crash and lose it physics ;)
