IndyCar IR18 and Ligier LMP3 Comes to rFactor 2 Next Week

IndyCar_header.jpg
Studio 397 keeps announcing new content for rFactor 2. After announcing Daytona International Speedway, with multiple layouts, on Monday. The Ligier JS P320 was announced on Tuesday. Today, the IndyCar IR18 was announced.

In an announcement that probably didn't surprise many rFactor 2 players, the IndyCar IR18 was announced today. Users of rFactor 2, may have spotted the car when launching the game, as it is one of the cars being shown on the start-screen of the game.

The Dallara DW12 is already in the game, but IndyCar has progressed since then, and they have kept updating the spec chassis over the 10 years the car has been used. Now in it's third iteration, the IR18 have visibly changed, with the removal of wheel covering, enormous group b-like aero and the aero development. They have also introduced the Red Bull Technologies developed frontal driver protection canopy. More alike what you see on jet-fighters and speed record cars than the F1 halo.

The cars have upwards of 700HP in the configuration with most power, and it comes with different aero and power packages depending on type of track you are driving on. The cars have very little in terms of driving aids, and they still run without power steering. Making it a physical car to drive on bumpy street circuits.

The car will arrive to rFactor 2 with all teams, drivers and liveries from the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series season, and have been developed in cooperaton with the IndyCar teams. Together with the car, rFactor 2 will be adding a couple of new physics features as well. Namely Push-to-Pass and Weight Jacker, both are features that are vital in IndyCar racing.

To celebrate the release of the car. There will be a special edition esport event with drivers like 2021 IndyCar champion Alex Palou, 2021 INDY 500 winner Helio Castroneves and two-time champion Josef Newgarden. This will take place the 9th of February. In addition to this, the IndyCar IR18 will be added to the rF2 competition system.

In addition to the IndyCar IR18. The Ligier JS P320 LMP3 was announced on Monday. This will be a welcome addition to all who likes the lower powered prototype-racing, as it means the Norma LMP3 already in the game will get a playmate on track.

Ligier is well known for years in Formula 1, and their win with Olivier Panis in the 1996 Monaco GP is widely known and remembered. However, they sold the team to Alain Prost, and left F1 after the 1996 season.
Liger returned to motorsport in 2013 together with Onroak Automotive and have enjoyed great success in prototype racing. Being the first since Ferrari to win the 24 hours of Daytona, 12 hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans when they did so in 2016 with their LMP2-car.

Their LMP3 car is built for Road to Le Mans, Le Mans Cup, IMSA and the European Le Mans Series, where the Ligier have been fighting for titles all seasons.
LMP3 is considered more of an entry class into prototype racing, which makes it a great car to learn how to handle cars that relies on downforce, yet not so much downforce that it makes it hard to have close and hard racing on the track.

Both the IndyCar IR18 and Ligier JS P320 LMP3 will join Daytona International Speedway in being released for rFactor 2 the 7th February 2022.

If you want to race online in a casual and friendly environment where the focus is on learning, evolving and polishing your own skills. Why not join the RaceDepartment Racing Club. We run multiple rFactor 2 events every week.

I've been a motorsport-fan for as long as I can remember. Initially a rallycross-maniac, but got into F1 around the time I started school. Got my first sim when I was 7, but didn't start properly until I got a wheel when I was 12. Been a staff at RaceDepartment since 2012. Mainly the dirty-guy who does rally-stuff here. But also management-titles and rFactor 2.

Paid DLC or free content?

I have a strong feeling this will be paid. Hopefully in some sort of pack. Because if these things are all released as separate products. I have a feeling that Daytona will be ignored (due to the new, amazing one for free at the Workshop) and also the Ligier - as very few races the LMP3.
Then we'll be left with the IndyCar, and what I assume will be the BMW M4 GT3.

From what has been by 397 sounds like at most of what has been announced so far will be as separate items. So far there is no relation between any of the items to turn them into a pack. The IndyCAR looks amazing, it has been a good start to 2022.

I liked ffb on my fanatec v2.5 but now i got sc2pro and ffb lost it magic, graphics bad, now for me this sim is almost dead, earlier i just raced a few laps for very nice ffb on v2.5, at least they modified UI :))) ok good luck for them even R3e look better sometimes …

I hope that they fix the previous ligier LMP first before they release a new one ! The old LMP is like glue when it even slightly touches the other LMP car, they simply melt and become one big crash. It's a true disaster. S397 does it again, releasing/selling new content while the old content is still full with unfixed bugs.

Cautiously optimistic about this! Certainly, these are great content choices -- IMSA and Indycar are some of the best current real-world series IMO, and these cars will drive great in rF2 no doubt.

In particular, I'm really excited to read that the "devil in the details" of Indycar will be simulated - weight jacker, aero and engine packages, push to pass, and so on. And the cars will even have the 2021 grid of liveries and real driver names! Thank you to Motorsport Games for having the Indycar license and thus making this last portion possible. :) I wonder if this provides a peek of sorts of what's to come in the upcoming Indycar game?

However... I won't repeat everything I just said in the RD Daytona article comments, but I hope there are AI and flag rule fixes so that single player racers can fully enjoy racing these cars with the AI. Including ovals or enduros. Otherwise, it's just more content that can't be raced with AI how it's meant to be raced due to years-old issues with the sim. Without AI changes, guess we'd all better either stick to hotlapping or hope IMSA or Indycar leagues spring up -- cause those'll be the only options, I guess.

Yeah, and they ban you for pointing all of this out while baiting you with insults so they can have a reason to ban you. They can definetly do whatever they want with rF2 from now on. Hope it fails. With MSG behind they really can't afford criticism it seems, so they went iRacing route.

Looking to take a long break from iRacing. I remember RF2 being regarded as having the best AI of all the SP sims, but read it was broken in a recent update. Is that still the case? How does it compare to AMS2 AI (I only drive Open-wheel/Prototypes)?

How much will it cost for the 2 cars and Daytona? 50$/€ ? ;)
All cars are the same price no reason these 2 won't be

Same as Tracks they follow a pattern it should be same as Sebring but maybe Lemans but not as dear as Nords lol

imo content has never been updated is the worse AI but more you race a combo the better they become
Ran 1+ hour LMP-GTE-GT3 @ DLC tracks and I would give AI a pass mark but only turning off flags and SC
If you want AI that all models run real world with flags and SC and no errors no sim I have can they all have their own bugs
With all it's warts still the best offline races for me

The main thing for me is rF2 AI look alive and do little lockups oversteer understeer heaps of times in race I see cars passing making errors
In comparison imo AMS2 and ACC look almost canned

Many would say yes, but there's a lot to say about this question, and there are ways the AI can still be solid. I'd make a separate post on the rF2 forum here on RD to ask about how the AI has changed (or not changed) over time! You could also check out some points myself and others made in the comments under the Daytona article.

But I don't want to contribute again to another comment section underneath a news release article getting hijacked to talk about all the pros and cons of a game (regardless if it relates to the subject of the article). :D

I don't need new cars. I don't need new tracks. I don't need you to fix the AI. I don't need a new UI. All I need is the ability to see the apexes BEFORE I get to them. Look Ahead does not work. I used change the player.json file to get what I need and now that is impossible because the UI holds the option to 20%.

Rfactor 2, I am trying not to give up on you, but you seem hell bent on sending me into the arms of another lover.
