IndyCar IR18 and Ligier LMP3 Comes to rFactor 2 Next Week

IndyCar_header.jpg
Studio 397 keeps announcing new content for rFactor 2. After announcing Daytona International Speedway, with multiple layouts, on Monday. The Ligier JS P320 was announced on Tuesday. Today, the IndyCar IR18 was announced.

In an announcement that probably didn't surprise many rFactor 2 players, the IndyCar IR18 was announced today. Users of rFactor 2, may have spotted the car when launching the game, as it is one of the cars being shown on the start-screen of the game.

The Dallara DW12 is already in the game, but IndyCar has progressed since then, and they have kept updating the spec chassis over the 10 years the car has been used. Now in it's third iteration, the IR18 have visibly changed, with the removal of wheel covering, enormous group b-like aero and the aero development. They have also introduced the Red Bull Technologies developed frontal driver protection canopy. More alike what you see on jet-fighters and speed record cars than the F1 halo.

The cars have upwards of 700HP in the configuration with most power, and it comes with different aero and power packages depending on type of track you are driving on. The cars have very little in terms of driving aids, and they still run without power steering. Making it a physical car to drive on bumpy street circuits.

The car will arrive to rFactor 2 with all teams, drivers and liveries from the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series season, and have been developed in cooperaton with the IndyCar teams. Together with the car, rFactor 2 will be adding a couple of new physics features as well. Namely Push-to-Pass and Weight Jacker, both are features that are vital in IndyCar racing.

To celebrate the release of the car. There will be a special edition esport event with drivers like 2021 IndyCar champion Alex Palou, 2021 INDY 500 winner Helio Castroneves and two-time champion Josef Newgarden. This will take place the 9th of February. In addition to this, the IndyCar IR18 will be added to the rF2 competition system.

Ligier JS P320 Social.jpg

In addition to the IndyCar IR18. The Ligier JS P320 LMP3 was announced on Monday. This will be a welcome addition to all who likes the lower powered prototype-racing, as it means the Norma LMP3 already in the game will get a playmate on track.

Ligier is well known for years in Formula 1, and their win with Olivier Panis in the 1996 Monaco GP is widely known and remembered. However, they sold the team to Alain Prost, and left F1 after the 1996 season.
Liger returned to motorsport in 2013 together with Onroak Automotive and have enjoyed great success in prototype racing. Being the first since Ferrari to win the 24 hours of Daytona, 12 hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans when they did so in 2016 with their LMP2-car.

Their LMP3 car is built for Road to Le Mans, Le Mans Cup, IMSA and the European Le Mans Series, where the Ligier have been fighting for titles all seasons.
LMP3 is considered more of an entry class into prototype racing, which makes it a great car to learn how to handle cars that relies on downforce, yet not so much downforce that it makes it hard to have close and hard racing on the track.

Both the IndyCar IR18 and Ligier JS P320 LMP3 will join Daytona International Speedway in being released for rFactor 2 the 7th February 2022.

If you want to race online in a casual and friendly environment where the focus is on learning, evolving and polishing your own skills. Why not join the RaceDepartment Racing Club. We run multiple rFactor 2 events every week.

I've been a motorsport-fan for as long as I can remember. Initially a rallycross-maniac, but got into F1 around the time I started school. Got my first sim when I was 7, but didn't start properly until I got a wheel when I was 12. Been a staff at RaceDepartment since 2012. Mainly the dirty-guy who does rally-stuff here. But also management-titles and rFactor 2.

I don't need new cars. I don't need new tracks. I don't need you to fix the AI. I don't need a new UI. All I need is the ability to see the apexes BEFORE I get to them. Look Ahead does not work. I used change the player.json file to get what I need and now that is impossible because the UI holds the option to 20%.

Rfactor 2, I am trying not to give up on you, but you seem hell bent on sending me into the arms of another lover.
tried VR?

Looking to take a long break from iRacing. I remember RF2 being regarded as having the best AI of all the SP sims, but read it was broken in a recent update. Is that still the case? How does it compare to AMS2 AI (I only drive Open-wheel/Prototypes)?
How the Ai behaves is very much depending on how well the AI files are made. All AI is basically behaving like slotcars. So you need to make sure there is enough options to change lanes.
Many tracks have bad racing lines and not enough options to overtake and to block. Making the AI drive like a train.
But tracks that are done well, the Ai race each other and you pretty skilled and hard. FCY is still not working properly.
I admit, mostly do shorter test sessions, never race for hours on a row.
So I have black flag only on.

How much will it cost for the 2 cars and Daytona? 50$/€ ? ;)
Tobe able to run it online you need to buy all the cars the server is running (not just the one car and the track you are driving) which adds up quickly. I'd really like to buy just one gte or gt3 and the track and do some racing in rf2 just to see how it is but dang you need to buy everything to drive just one car which makes is more expensive than iracing

You can expect the 3 individual pieces to cost ± € 9,00 Daytona, and € 5,00 each car.
Today they might announce the M4 GT3 which has been ready for while, but might gave been delayed to:
- fit a new launch strategy;
- allow for all the GT3 cars to be BOPed appropriately and hopefully, with a new tyre (in line with the Formula Pro and the M4 Class 1).

This can't be changed as this is how the whole game is built - with packages - it would require to rebuild the game from ground up to make it work.
Note: during sales, as currently, ALL GT3 cars cost € 13,00 in a pack, which is the price for a single car on iRacing.
So you could not be further from the truth.

I liked ffb on my fanatec v2.5 but now i got sc2pro and ffb lost it magic, graphics bad, now for me this sim is almost dead, earlier i just raced a few laps for very nice ffb on v2.5, at least they modified UI :))) ok good luck for them even R3e look better sometimes …
Go to the S397 Discord and ask for help as many users there have the SimuCube and cannot speak highly enough about how it feels in rF2.
There are settings on the SimuCube software that make a huge difference.
I believe that most of the settings in question are the ones used to get a good feeling on sims like iRacing and ACC, which on rF2 should be at ZERO as the FFB runs at 400Mhz, with data coming from the steering rack, so without needing canned or amplified effects.

While I agree it is far from iRacing prices, the business model puts the consumer in a crap situation. If it worked like AMS 2 or R3E (or iRacing) multiplayer would be much more popular in my opinion. Say you have no interest to drive GT3s but want to take part in a multiclass race? Buy all GT3s! I remember when the first 650S GT3 came out people bought it for the competition, then the pack came out for a much better price and the early adopters got screwed.

The guy is a shill for S397, don't mind him too much. Excuses that the game had to bulit from the ground up... When the level of shown lack of skill to develop rF2 has been shown the truth is just it might be too hard to get rid of packages like that and they don't really have any incentive for that, because precious money. It's what we have right now if you love rF2 but can't have better people behind it (some are pretty good, but something is seriously wrong around there).

this "problem" is compensated by the current pricing and offering of packs, otherwise each car would be more expensive (that has been explained in the forum somewhere). So for me its pretty good, since 13 cars for like 13-15€ is way better value than 1 for the same price, even if I mainly drive just one of those

Yes. The current deal for GT3 is not bad. Then you look at it outside of sales, you look at classes that are fragmented among different packs or single content releases (LMP 2, GTE, LMP 3 possibly with the new release) and it doesn't look that nice.

And look at the quality of especially older DLC. Some I wouldn't keep even if they were a free mod or free official content. Maybe for AI. And we get back to the core of the problem, having to buy cars that one doesn't want to drive.

lmp2/3, DPi and GTE are in one pack: the endurance pack, they arent fragmented for a while now

I understand not everbody wants to drive everything, like I dont do aswell, but still 13 for 13 is in any form better than 13 for 1, even if I personally dont plan on using like 9 or so, its simply more for the same, so I dont loose anything, the only real complain would be that the steam item store cant handle single items in packs (like the people that have most items form a pack and lack one or more, here I can totally understand the argument that buying things you dont want is bad, since here you are then paying more than you otherwise would have had, maybe a rfactor 2 store could help this issue, like in Raceroom), but if one only has to buy things in packs its a decent system

The Endurance Pack is also now one just one pack for €13,20 with ALL cars (minus the incoming Ligier LMP3).
The Track Expansion Pack with Lemans, Nurburgring+Nords, Sebring and Monaco costs €10,25.
The Formula Pro Pack, with the best single seater in the business and Spa, Monza and repeated Nurburgring-Nords, costs €12,95.
People are obviously entitled to your opinion, but only when it is based on FACTS, not on unsubstantiated rants.

Are you a programmer? Do you know for a fact that it's easy?
S397 has been a small studio with limited resources so yes, they had trouble making improvements.
But this flurry of releases give some hope that things could be improving.
And, if you don't like rF2, why the &%$# are you here ranting?
People can and should criticise, but do it with judgement and balance.
Spewing hot takes takes zero effort.
I would like to check your skill on your line of business... You must be the best in the world...

I tested ffb from paddock online, maybe will give a shot for few more setups… but in anycase it need online racing as AI is bad…

I hope not to sound unappreciative of the work S397 has done with the UI and DLC but keeping my fingers crossed for some enhancements to single player, in particular the flag system.
