How Excited Has F1 Testing Left You For The 2022 Season?

Scuderia Alpha Tauri.jpg
One half of pre-season testing is done, the other is set to follow from March 10th to 12th: Formula 1 is back on track, and after a considerable shakeup in the rules, testing for the new season has become even more interesting than usual ahead of the March 20th season opener at Sakhir.

F1 cars have always changed, but a new set of rules always seems to alter the face of the sport considerably. The 2022 cars, originally intended to be introduced for the 2021 season but delayed due to the COVID pandemic, certainly look different than their predecessors: Less bulky, more aggressive lines, ground effect floors and larger rims all make for interesting designs.

Likely the most radical design is the one Ferrari is throwing into the ring: The sidepods of the newest car of the legendary Scuderia turned a lot of heads upon reveal, and coupled with a supposedly big step in the right direction by the engine department, they have seemingly proven very functional so far during the testing sessions at Catalunya.

If the order really is going to be considerably different from the last few years remains to be seen, however - the first race of the season is going to shed light onto this question. With everything that has been changed in the regulations and looks of the cars, how excited are you for the next testing sessions and the season's start? Who are your favorites right now, what do you predict for 2022? Let us know in the comments!

The usual crowd of Muppets will follow every contrived twist and turn of a carefully drafted script breathlessly exclaiming "Oooooooh! Aaaaaaaah! Shiny!"
I won't, MotoGP and the IOM are my 'Motorsport' staples.

Cautiously optimistic, hoping they get the proposing issue resolved.

Its been decades since I was excited for a new season. The sport has become more showbiz. Why would a true fan be excited to see the same driver win races??? I still see Merc being dominant no sign they are weak. Not their fault. But another one sided era is not what F1 needs. I would love to see Max vs Leclerc vs Russell vs Norris. They are the future of the sport.

The cars look so much better this season, especially the Ferrari who now looks like a real Ferrari once again. The Williams is also quite striking.

As for the racing, I see tons of unjustified negativity on this board and, frankly, lots of « Debbie Downers » too.

Well, I spent some of the off season watching old F1 year in review videos on YouTube. My conclusion: the past always look better to modern eyes than what actually happened at the time.

For me, it's always exciting to start a new year. I am crossing my fingers the grid will be closers than recent years. I think the cars look fine. Definitely a less aggressive looking car with less detailed features. Not a big deal for me.

It does seem with every passing year, F1 seems to be more and more of an elitist and political sport. I don't like this however my muscle memory of following F1 for 50 years is hard to beak.

I am hoping we see at least 8 different winners this year. That would be great and a confirmation the new cars worked.

D
Thats a pity.
Because he did show every sign of being able to be the next World Champion :roflmao:
Great talent :roflmao:
Yeah just a few Rubles in the race directors pocket and "Hey we have a winner"

My Edit: (allegedly) :)

To be honest i don't take it seriuousley at all. Its like Friday practice, cars spinning around as teams collect data and work out how to fix problems. You don't get a realistic picture tell you are 3 races in. The teams and drivers talk a big deal about innovation and goals. But like politicians they set goals to high and usually fail to achieve what they promise. I am exited about the new airo concept and tires that will force teams to re think to go forwards. Becuse you can't carry much over from last year. Things are going to be different in the cars and the rules and even enforcement with the loss of Mr. Massi. We are going into a new eara of F1 and i hope it will be better.

Can't they put the rich kids in 1967 race cars? I think the premier class of racing should be clutched and shifted and driven only with purely mechanical grip. Modern Formula 1 is boring to death.
Boaring to death i think doing what you suggested will lead to Death. Cars are safer due to technology. That you want to get rid of.

Wow there are some proper boomtastic opinions in here. I can't imagine anyone looking at Danny Ric and Lando and thinking 'yep, no charisma, no character'

I like the new cars, there is some real variation between them and there are some very pretty liveries coming out. There has been a reset of the design philosophy which should shake up the running order a bit, and hopefully have the desired effect ref overtaking.

Pre season testing rarely means anything but it does seem promising to be a McLaren fan - I'm not sure they've got enough to beat the Mercs every weekend but I think they could get 2nd or 3rd this season.

Formula 1 has fallen far from the pinnacle of motorsport it wants to call itself.

The regulations still allow DRS which just ruins the racing for me.

I might watch a few races this year just to see what the new cars do.

Excitement level out of 1-10.

When's Le Mans?
