Gran Turismo 7: Update 1.36 Released

After more teasing than usual, the latest Gran Turismo 7 update is finally live. The unusual timing coupled with promotion of the Gran Turismo movie did set some expectations, but big surprises are not part of the update this time.

The new cars coming in this new patch had already been teased, which made it rather clear what would be included. However, only two of the vehicles are already available for purchase in the game as the update dropped in the Maserati MC20, the Italian manufacturer's latest supercar developed fully in-house including the engine, and the first-generation Chevrolet Corvette from 1958 in its most powerful trim. What about the two Toyotas, though?

Patience Needed for Two Toyotas

Racers can actually already drive the GR Corolla Morizo, albeit only in Sport Mode to practice for the next and final round of the Toyota Cup on Road Atlanta for now. Should you enter the race at the end of the month, or have entered any other round of the season, you will be gifted the car on August 28th. Otherwise, it will only be available for purchase in the dealership in late September.

For the 2021 HI-MEDIC ambulance, it's a similar story, except you cannot drive it yet for now. It will be gifted to players on August 14th if they watch the upcoming esports live event taking place in Amsterdam this weekend, or on August 21st if they answer the in-game questions about the competition a bit late. As a nice bonus, the reveal trailer confirmed that it will come all the proper ambulance sounds.

(Almost) Movie Star Looks

Movie-related content was also expected, and there is some included - sort of: Players can watch the trailer in the game, and doing so will gift them a Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 with the movie's livery - but it is the 2018 Evo version of the GT-R, which is technically not the correct car as you will see a pre-update package car on your theater screen should you choose to go watch the film. The community already had it replicated on the first-gen GT-R GT3 though, so if having that livery of the correct car is important to you, you are covered regardless. A new sport mode time trial event is also currently running on top of the two usual bi-weekly ones, but players have until the end of September to register a time.

Not much else is part of the update. Five new engine swaps made their way into the game, and they are all about Chevys and Fords getting more modern or better versions of what they already have under the bonnet. Minor singleplayer events additions, bug fixes, menu books and a new scape location also have been introduced.

Next Update in Late September?

Moreover, it seems like another update will have to wait until after the end of summer: The movie-themed time trial ends on September 27th, which falls on a Wednesday. With GT7 updates usually being released on Thursdays towards the end of each month, we can pretty confidently expect September 28th to be the release date of the next update - which should add the Corolla and ambulance to Brand Central. Most likely, a new track is going to make its debut as well, as it has been quite some time since the last one launched. Rumours have it that the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve would be ready for release. But hey, everyone should be able to get a summer break, even game devs, right?

There's a lot more sim racing fans that are PC owners than PS5s, and it could/should/would allow for modding.
How would it allow for modding? ACC isn't modable. iRacing isn't modable. FM7 isn't modable.
GT7 is far from a sim as well with the worst career in the history of gran turismos. I don't know if I would even install a free pirated version just for the waist of disk space. GT7 is not good.
Of course opinion blah blah.
