Gran Turismo 7: Summer Teaser Shows New Cars

As per nearly every month, Kazunori Yamauchi released a teaser picture for the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 update, showing an eclectic car selection - including an ambulance this time. The teaser was slightly delayed, but this was for good reason. The update itself is scheduled to be deployed on August 7th.

Just like previous teasers, only parts of the silhouettes of the new cars are visible in Yamauchi's post, igniting speculation among GT7 fans. And just like with the previous teasers, the community did not take long to find out what was actually shown in the image - racers can look forward to an interesting bunch of vehicles with the new update.

First in the image, we can see Maserati's latest production car, the MC20. Although the first test mules were based on modified Alfa Romeo 4C tubs, Maserati built a completely new chassis for the production version of the MC20. The carbon shell receives a twin turbo V6 delivering a solid 630 hp to power the car's 1468 kg.

To the left of the MC20, there is no surprise as the car in question had already been announced: It is the Toyota Corolla GR Morizo Edition, which basically takes the Yaris GR organs and transfers them into a Corolla body. The engine has been tuned up to 300 hp, although the Corolla is a bit heavier at 1440 kg.

The Morizo Edition benefits from a 30kg weight reduction though, thanks to the removal of the back seat, rear speakers, rear wiper, and the addition of a forged carbon roof panel. Special shocks, slightly wider tyres and 349 extra welding spots on the chassis complete the special package. Players can get it for free in-game if they participate in at least one round of the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup.

On the top right of the teaser image, the Chevrolet Corvette C1 from 1958 stands as an all time classic in its facelifted version with four headlights. The engine options available for this year in particular ranged from 250 hp to 290 hp, all delivered with good old V8 flavour. The C1 was available with a 2-speed powerglide automatic transmission or a 3-speed manual. By modern standards, it will not offer mind-blowing performance, but at the time, this was one of the best things on four wheels you could own.

Finally, in the background, sits the 2021 Toyota HIMEDIC - which is basically the ambulance version of the previous-gen HIAce, which launched in 2006 that has gotten regular upgrades since then. A 2.7-liter inline 4 engine works to pull the 2.5 to 2.8 tons (respectively for the 2WD and 4WD versions) through emergency situations. 160 hp might seem a bit low for that kind of work, but be sure drifters will be there to tune it and get it sideways.

The update will most likely be published with additional features in relation to the Gran Turismo movie (which got postponed to the 25th of August due to the current SAG-AFTRA strikes). We have already seen the movie, however - keep your eyes peeled for our review!

We don't know yet. Kaz always just tweets the car shadows and nothing else, regardless of if there's any other content planned for the update. This one is going to have stuff related to the movie, that's sure, but we don't know what exactly yet.

Wish I had an excuse to spend £1000 on the console and headset.....but I don't. If GT7 had a GT4 level of content I'd be all over it but I just can't be bothered with this one. So far it's the only one I've not owned.
