F1 22 Championship Edition Launch Just Hours Away

If you have pre-purchased the Championship Edition of F1 22, June 28 is when you can already be playing the new title by Codemasters and EA. Ahead of the release, a new launch trailer has been published.

“We can’t wait for players to jump into the game, and the trailer perfectly captures the excitement and emotion of competing at the highest level for the World Championship,” said Paul Jeal, F1 Senior Franchise Director at Codemasters. “Players will experience the ecstasy of taking their seat in the new era of Formula 1 and driving the car to the limit and beyond.”

F1 22 lets players live the life of a Formula 1 driver on and off the track. Alongside competing for the 2022 FIA World Championship™ in new revolutionary cars designed for greater competition, players can now experience rewards away from the circuit with the introduction of F1 Life. The new social hub allows players to personalise their avatar and apartment and show off their collection of supercars. Once acquired, the cars can be driven in the Pirelli Hot Lap feature, replicating the early part of the race weekend.

F1 22 Champions Edition featuring additional content and three days of early access, will release on June 28, 2022, for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin and Steam. The Standard Edition will release on Friday, July 1, 2022.

Have you purchased the Championship Edition with 3 days of early access? If so, will you be playing tomorrow already? Let us know in the comments below!

I know this is a wasted question but, does the game support Motec?
No, but there is @Iko Rein's Telemetry Tool - https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/telemetry-tool-for-f1-2021.43877/, which should work if you set the UDP output to F1 21 format.

There's also Sim Racing Telemetry which will run on mobile devices as well - useful if you have an iPad hooked up to your rig, at the moment you'll need to buy the F1 21 module and again set the UDP output to F1 21 format.

Am still waiting to hear from VR users if they are getting good performance.
I have had a brief run around a few tracks in VR, and after a little bit of tweaking, I am impressed with the performance. When I first started the game in VR, it seemed very blurry but a couple of changes in game cleared that up. I am running a Samsung Odyssey OG, RTX2080TI, Ryzen 5950X and have everything set to Ultra Settings and it seems very smooth and quite fast. I have set forced reprojection though. Personally, I am quite impressed with it, compared to my other experiences in VR (AMS2, PC2, ACC, rFactor2, etc.) The only bit I have found a bit blurry is when I hit Esc and it brings up the menus, that looks a little fuzzy to me, but actually on track its ok.

So you have a beefy 2080TI GPU, an average resolution VR headset, reaching 45 fps and you are impressed with the VR performance? I would not be impressed with 45 fps. I have a 2070 super, a Valve Index headset (same resolution as your Samsung) and I am getting 90 fps on DR2.0, AC, AMS2, PC2 and RF2.

+1 , VR is Almost Perfect in F122 . Very Immersive , Ultra Graphics , easy on the eyes ,High Frame rates , well implemented all around.
Default setup suspension is to hard imo, softened it up ,handles much better.

I haven't tried F1 22 in VR without forced reprojection. I can play all the games you have stated at 90 fps if I leave the reprojection off. However, I mainly play ACC out of all the games, and have found a constant 45fps to be far more playable than averaging 60fps with occasional stuttering or drop in framerate. So I just leave it on one setting rather than changing it from game to game in Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR config.

I have now tried it with reprojection off, and get the 90 fps. I did a benchmark at Barhrain and had a minimum of 88 fps. So that is good enough for me.

I had to get a refund on the game it kept crashing when I ran it in Steam VR. I've got a 3080ti 5900x combo and it s*&t the bed everytime I drove out of the paddock....doesn't seem to be a pattern as to why it works for some and not for others as yet...I think I'll revisit this game in a few months and 20 updates later

So now that VR is "maybe working" and will "maybe be fixed with patches", I'm thinking again to buy it.

But now the question is: "what version?!" Origin or Steam.

The official statement is at this moment: "Origin and Steam will not be able to play online together. When crossplay is introduced later in development, then all platforms can play together in supported crossplay modes (Social Play and Two-Player Career modes)".

How on earth could they ruin the launch day even more. Of course the majority wants to play online, but at this moment it's completely unclear which version will have more players, origin or steam. And it's also completely unclear WHY they did that, why we couldn't play together and why in the future this is only possible in "supported crossplay modes (Social Play and Two-Player Career modes)" and wtf are that "crossplay modes social play", it sounds like that the full multiplayer experience will never be shared.

So I cannot buy this title now even IF VR is working because nobody knows which version will have the majority of online racers. This is the worst game launch that I've seen in my life, they simply made it impossible to make an purchase decision.

The first edition of Codemasters F1 in 2009 was not good. That was really a game and not a sim. I left it behind. It got a little better over the years. In 2017 I couldn't resist the temptation and continued to buy a new one every year until 2020. Last year I thought, I'll skip a year, I'll wait for 2022. After all I've heard about it now, the chance is less than nil that I will buy one this year. Steam, Origin, DRM???? How far can the game industry fall in the way their product gets to the customer? Steam is bad enough in and of itself, and now there's something more to come? Can the game industry take an example from, for example, Adobe or Steinberg? Press buy and the program will be installed for you. Then you only start the program you want to use and in the background it is checked whether you have paid for this copy and whether someone else is not using the same registration at the same time. Never had a problem with it. Steam drives me crazy. Frequently connecting to Steam is not flawless and it imposes too many restrictions on its use. And now all of a sudden Steam isn't enough anymore? Is there something more to do with even more restrictions? Just walk around with a big bow and don't look back. It was five fun years of Codemasters, but we are going to do it again without each other.

My experience so far is actually a very positive one, more so than last year's.

So far everything has run silky smooth, even in VR (using the original Reverb, not the G2) with really the only dropped frames I'm getting is in the pits - occasionally on track, but only very occasionally. In fact I'm very impressed with the VR - no I'm actually blown away by it in fact - a more or less constant 90FPS and great immersion (just stick to plain old TAA otherwise it gets a bit blurry). The VR interface could do with improvement however.

Specs for those interested is the following:
i9 9900K overclocked to 4.5 on all cores - stability is more important that outright performance for me.
ASUS OC RTX 2080Ti - factory overclock to 1900Mhz
32GB 3200 RAM

Driving wise the cars, or at least the Mclaren, are much more planted this year IMO, and the kerbs of death seem to be a thing of the past. In fact I really do quite enjoy the driving experience and feel I can push this year, whereas last year it was very much treading on eggshells - it's understeery sure, but not as much the handling/physics deep dive lead me to believe.

Based on my experience I'd give it a serious recommendation, especially if you missed the last one or two installments, but given the issues that other people are having It' probably better to wait a bit for the ensuing patches.

Just read your post @Slapped and thought this sounds positive and reassuring and then back to square one after reading @muzikant post.....
So many mixed opinions.
Don't think I've done a refund before, is there a refund button on steam?

yes seek help in steam that will take you to the steam support

This is from a ea forum maybe it helps I give it a last try

but doing this every time with a race is a hassle..:(

Oculus CV1-gebruikers opgelet:

I have found the magic sequence that makes the CV1 work.

You have to be inside the goggle for this to work. If you have black screen problems, select VR VERY LOW (the lowest setting) and apply. Don't restart the game, immediately go to the screen with the Anti Aliasing settings. Toggle between the modes, there is a high probability that the graphics will suddenly appear. If it does not, make sure your resolution is set to 1280x1024 and always in WINDOWD mode. The 1st AA setting yields top FPS, the second is bad FPS and the 3rd is black screen.

If it fails select other VR modes then back to the lowest one then AA toggle again.

This is the only way to get the CV1 to work.

Once the trick works, you can adjust all the settings in any way like you normally would. It just needs that kick start to work. Every time you launch the game you have to go through this sequence of steps.

On 1080ti with Oculus CV1 on 1920x1080 Medium VR you get smooth gameplay and very good quality (no blurring).

yes, but usually you only have 2hrs to request a refund IF YOU USED THE SIM. Something like 48hrs if you did not open the title.
