Dakar Desert Rally Review - Ouch! That Was Rough!

Dakar_screen.jpg
The newest installation of Saber Porto's Magnum Opus is out. Dakar Desert Rally lets you take on the Saudi Arabian desert with a magnitude of different vehicles. But how does it fare? Should you buy it? Let's dive into the raid rally racing game.

Over the next few pages, I'll give you my detailed thoughts on the newest rally raid game by the Portuguese game studio.

DISCLAIMER: Because my wheel and pedals weren't recognised by the game at the time of review, I had to play with a gamepad. So please keep that in mind, especially when reading through the controls section.

Pros: I get a good basic impression of the game when readin the review. Nearly enough to base my buy or not buy decision on it.
Cons: I would really like more screenshots from the game. Talking about the graphics without examples from the game gives only half of the benefit.
Overall a good but not great review. I would have liked to see more screenshots (vehicle categories, graphic comparison). Else than that I would have hoped for more details on the hardware recognition problem.

This review should be re-written as it was quite inconsistent and I was left with only a single thought after reading it: “I should find another review of this game to read”.

Dakar Desert Rally worked out of the box with my
  • Wheel: Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing Wheel (USB)
  • Pedals: Thrustmaster T-LCM Pedals
No problems at all.
I only had to turn down FFB to 20 in the game. In the Thrustmaster Control Panel, I have set all forces (and overall forces) to 100.

This is the Supported Steering Wheel List link :

I myself use a Logitech G27, too bad the steering setting is currently lock out, say wha?
They said that in their Update/Patch v1.3 will fix this problem, fingers crossed!
Hope this helps, Enjoy! ;)
Well, based on that link, I guess that I'm out of luck.... Thanks! - You saved me some money!

EDIT: I tried it anyway -- While my wheel is supported, my pedals currently are not. Submitted my refund request already. :(
